[IRCA] TAs in Alberta update

2009-12-11 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Just got back to the radio and had a run through the dial, noting the
following with audio:

531 weak audio, sounds like Algeria
549 2 unIDs. One sounds like Arabic talk
585 Spain
639 Spain
675 Holland, with presumed Libya in the background
684 Spain
693 UK
711 France
756 Germany
774 Spain
783 unID, with Arabic recitations, and a 2nd station behind
801 weak audio, but real tough in 800 spatter
810 could be a TA in the jumble, but the Winnipeg ethnic station
complicates things

837 weak audio in IBOC hash
855 Spain
864 France, mixing with presumed R.Liberty via Armenia
909 UK, perhaps the best I've heard this freq
936 unID, sounds like Arabic
972 Germany, with a second off channel carrier, presumably Libya
999 unID, was Russia earlier on
1017 Germany
1035 unID
1089 UK
1134 Croatia - not particularly strong
1152 very weak audio
1179 Sweden
1215 UK
1269 Germany, very nice signal
1296 weak traces of audio
1377 France
1386 traces of audio
1413 weak audio
1422 Germany
1431 weak audio
1449 Libya
1548 Kuwait (Sawa)
1575 UAE (Farda)

A very good showing - Nick sures picks the time to be away!

1431 Unid station with with what sounded like Believe by Cher at 0310

1575 Radio Farda quite good at 0303.

Just a quick alert to those of you further west - TAs are happening

Re: [IRCA] TAs in Alberta

2009-10-07 Thread Nigel Pimblett

Yes, 1161 is gone, but it was amazing soon after 0100.

No luck with the 855 mystery here. It's only Spain I've been getting,
and not a lot of that. I seem to be hearing different stuff than the
guys out west tonight.

I was amazed to hear some TA action on the even frequencies. Somone on
810 has been strong at times. Thought maybe it was the Winnipeg ethnic
station until I heard them QRMing the mystery station. And at 0300 on
1530 I was amazed to hear bits of the VOA's Yankee Doodle theme coming
through KFBK.

Once again tonight the Voice of Russia is doing well on 1548 from Moldova.

Not getting a lot of strong audio, but a fair number with lower level audio.
Oddly, one of the strongest signals is the Koran on 1161, which I'm guessing
is Iran, and not one I've ever logged before.
Farda doing well on 1575, and presumed Radio Sawa from Kuwait on 1548 pretty
good also.

Funny that this year, I've yet to get audio on Farda 1575. Last season they
were an almost daily visitor, often at quite good levels. As well 1548
sometimes also came in, but not too often. Perhaps it's later in the season,
and as I recall, often late in our local afternoon/early evening as
well.Walt

No luck with the 855 mystery here. It's only Spain I've been getting, and not
a lot of that. I seem to be hearing different stuff than the guys out west
tonight.

I was amazed to hear some TA action on the even frequencies. Somone on 810
has been strong at times. Thought maybe it was the Winnipeg ethnic station
until I heard them QRMing the mystery station. And at 0300 on 1530 I was
amazed to hear bits of the VOA's Yankee Doodle theme coming through KFBK.

Once again tonight the Voice of Russia is doing well on 1548 from Moldova.

I checked my 1530 on the SDR wav file and nothing heard there. We have heard
Sao Tome from Masset, though at pretty good level back in Sept 2007. Walt

These guys Farda and Sawa are experiencing sunrise around 0200 or 0230 this
time of year so that is still a tad early for Victoria but it is pitch black
dark in AB then. S... wait a couple of weeks.

I am waiting a few weeks so I don't have to stay up so late to try to get a
positive on AK on 750 and in Dec I don't have to stay up too late for Japan.

[IRCA] TAs in Alberta

2009-09-14 Thread Nigel Pimblett
A little more life in the band than for the last few days, though
nothing like the conditions of last week.Noted 27 carriers on a
quick scan through the band, though only Croatia's 1134 had any audio -
and it was ranging from quite good to nil.

I did a quick bandscan just now (2100 LT) and had carriers on 855 864
909 1017 1134 1215 1377 and 1422. Most were weak except for 1215
1422, which had traces of audio. And, for whatever reason, KRKO-1380
had IBOC turned off.

Further scanning revealed carriers on 1107, 1206(bits of audio), 891 (a
surprise just 9 kHz from my strongest local), 837, 693, plus presumed
Tahiti-738. 1134 had decent audio at times, 1215 1377 had traces.
This at 2115-2122 PDT.

Some early TAs by my standards with audio noted already on 1323, 1431,

Of course, I have to go out again tonight, but perhaps I can hear a few

2009-01-23 Thread Nigel Pimblett
For some reason Spain is doing particularly well on 738 tonight (I
suppose I should say this afternoon), the most consistent channel of
audio thus far. Spain also noted on 855 and 999, France on 1206, 945
and 1467, where TWR had a pretty good signal as they signed off at
2330. Absolute also good at times on 1215, and 1089 also from the UK
pops up every now and again.

I have the TA BOGs down here in IL ..currently about 325 ft // 195 ft at
about 42 deg. TA cx are OK, but not extraordinary by any means. I did add
972 Libya to the log book with AA mx/chants as they seem better modulated
tonite (caught them in WI last month).

Those needing 1467 France, be aware that it, as usual, was in rather well
prior to 2330 UTC s/off.

Nigel, same thing on the coast here. The carriers seem especially strong in
