Thanks, Craig. After your FSL ran wild with TP-DX in Princeville, Kauai last
April it is already becoming quite prolific. The potent signal strength of your
Chinese station reception was pretty astonishing, even to me.

Sorry Barry. I fire off these warning shots without thinking about
it, assuming that the header contains the time
(UTC).Anyway, 0315UT is when I first noticed the carrier, and
it was very close to audio a couple of times about an hour later;
last possibility around 0435UT, then things fell apart.

1089 had a pretty good carrier at times, 855 was so-so; hints on 882
1053 1089, and an odd one, 1296.

best wishes,

Nick

An interesting point, Nick. I've never noticed any advantage to SW
propagation being near the water, as opposed to MW. I wonder where the cut
off is? 1.8 MHz, 2 or 3 MHz? I wonder whether there is any research in
this area. We're well aware of some really good papers regarding salt
water MW enhancement in the past. I believe that you posted links to some
of these a few years back. 73,...Walt

Re: [IRCA] 1215 yet again

2016-09-23 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Unlike last night 1215 was in audio quite a bit here tonight too, good
at times.Wasn't alone as I had 12 channels in total that produced
audio of varying degrees. Most were pretty feeble, but several were
quite good. Vesti on 1413 was the best signal here, peaking around
0240. Lithuania on 1386 had a good peak too at about the same time with
the NHK program in Russian.
An interesting evening, probably time better spent than confirming what
I heard this morning was 693/747/774/828 and 1566 (which pretty much
summed it up).

Re: [IRCA] 1215 carrier...0315UT update

2012-12-01 Thread Nick Hall-Patch

Things have sort of plateaued...

at 0230UT, carriers noted on 675 747 837 864 873 1089 1098 1215
(solid, but still no audio), and 1269

After a little break to go watch the Christmas lighted truck parade
at the end of the road (a gloriously unsustainable event), there was
a few more minutes listening at 0315UT, and the same carriers popped
up from time to time (1215 now weaker though), as well as 783 855
again, 909 963 and now a little something on 1341.But, just
carriers, no chance of audio.

best wishes,

Nick

2010-12-11 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Absolute has had some decent audio over the past 20 minutes, and the
freq is indeed right on 1215. There are a couple of other carriers
visible on the display, but both much closer than 1214.92, more like
1214.997 and 1214.998.
Bits of audio from France also on 1206, and 963 is very close to audio,
but that's about it.

1107.11 or so. (.122 per Jean Burnell, who says he also measured it a few
months earlier there, on May 1/09, at 1107.124. Possible local ID during a RNE

Just some carriers here on the west coast this evening. The strongest now

Does Mauritania have its carrier on?

Some really nice TA signals tonight, all on the low end. New here is RNE

Very similar here Nick. I checked right around 0400 and noted a fair
carrier on 1215 at times. Didn't observe audio, but very close at
times.Seemed to be a sweet spot on the dial, as 1206 and 1224
carriers were also noted.A few other of the "barely theres" also noted.

Snippets here as well, Nick at 04:35. With Perseus cranked up to maximal
resolution, I can see 4 carriers that I measure at: 1215.000 (presumably
Absolute, as it's the strongest), 1214.997 (2nd strongest), 1214.999 (3rd
strongest), and 1215.001 (weakest). I'm not able to improve on that
resolution. This is after Perseus was calibrated using the IBOC signal on

You must live right, Walthaven't chanced upon them yet with audio, though
I've heard a SAH pretty frequently. In fact there's three carriers there:
1215.0001, 1214.9969, and 1214.9987 (0.2 Hz error); Absolute is supposed to be
spot on channel, but don't know what the others would be.

I've had a bit more success with 855; mx traces at 0457UT.

Pretty interesting evening as far as carriers go albeit weakthree on
longwave for example: 162, 189 and 198, and that's in spite of the local
noise. 162 and 198 are spot on channel to better than 0.1Hz, while 189 is
within 0.1 Hz, which seems to correspond with the MWoffset list

 Otherwise, 999 sounded promising, with 1611, 1512, 1485, 1413, 1269, 1251,
1206, 1089, 927, 882, 783, 774 and 531 being noticeable.

Interestingly was listening at the same time and there it was also, but figured
I'd wait awhile to report it, in the hope it got better. It didn't. Still
fading up to audio traces at 0435UT.

Other carriers (mostly weak) in a bandscan at 0425-0430: 675 693 765 774SAH
783 855 (slow SAH) 864 945 999 1053 1089 1107SAH 1116 1152 1161 1206 1224 1251

864, 945 and 1251 all showed some strength, but on recheck they're back the

No audio noted here on 1215, but did have some weak audio from France on
1206 just now at 0415. For some reason the carrier from 1206 is
considerably stronger than anything else TA tonight, very unusual for
this QTH.The other regular French channel on 1377 has only a weak

Thanks. Like you, the quality was not great, but the ID came through
rather nicely. Anyone understanding Russian could ID the station. It
happen to peak wel at the ID time. The rest of the programming was much
poorer. I sent my follow up to Kaliningrad this time. Both time $2 rp
was enclosed.

Hi everyone,

Has anyone managed to get a QSL out of Kaliningrad 1215. I sent my
report to Moscow last Fall without ny luck. Recently, I sent another out
directly to Kaliningrad and I am keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks.

Re: [IRCA] 1215 Kaliningrad QSL?

2008-11-02 Thread Bruce Portzer

Patrick

I sent them a report+CD last year and mailed it to the Voice of Russia
address listed in the WRTH. Three weeks later I received an e-mail from
Elena Osipova in the VOR Letters Dept saying "Your reception report and
the CD were forwarded to the Russian language Service of the Voice of
Russia. I am not sure, however, they will be able to recognize their
broadcast since the quality of recording is very poor." I never heard
anything more from them and haven't sent a follow-up, though I did
subsequently receive a QSL from VoR 's JJ service on 720.

Nonetheless, her e-mail at least confirmed that my report made it
through the Russian mail system. I'm not sure why the Russian Service
never answered - perhaps they didn't care, or couldn't make anything
out of my recording, maybe the report was lost in the inter-office mail,
or maybe they sent a QSL and I never got it.

2008-11-02 Thread WALTER SALMANIW
Hope I don't miss all the action, fellas. Kalinigrad was a real regular last
year here in Victoria, as was Virgin (now Absolute Radio) and COPE. Also heard
Farda on 1575 at pretty decent levels early in the evening once or twice last
year (and on the Charlottes once in the morning). I'm stuck at the hospital
with another delivery for the time being, so good luck to everyone
tonight!Walt.

Re: [IRCA] 1215 audible tonight in Victoria

2008-09-26 Thread Nigel Pimblett

Hi Neil,
Thanks for the note on Moldova, which was certainly a surprise last
night, as conditions seemed OK, but not exceptional.Spain seems much
less of any issue here as I've never heard it on 999 (nor on 1215 for
that matter where I only ever get the UK or Russia, whereas everyone
else seems to get Spain as well). I heard it for about 3-4 minutes
shortly after 0300 UTC. Would have been nice to hear it a few minutes
earlier at TOH, but beggars can't be choosers!

1134 was also good here last night, but otherwise audio was very sparse.
The regular suspects on 1215, 1206, 1377 didn't do anything. Did
hear a little audio on 1116 and 1125, but not enough to even determine
language.

Nice catch that Moldova on 999 !! This continues to elude me both here
in Barrington IL and up 140km north in Grafton WI. When I can get by
WMVP (much easier in WI than here) it is always Spain. ..ie a nice
COPE ID last weekend from Grafton. I have even tried a wire at 355
degrees here in Barrington hoping to null Madrid (61 deg) but I still
got Spain in TA cx last season rather than Moldova !

At what time did you have your RR audio on 999 ?

At times tonite 1134 seemed like a domestic as I tuned past it, it was
so strong. ie as strong as what I had on 1130 or 1140 and this is on
antennas not aimed TA. I'd have spent a few minutes putting down TA
antennas due to these cx, but they'd have to be rolled up tomorrow as
I fly out of town and mowing is Monday before I return. Noting that I
am weening myself toward retirement rather than semi-retirement, I'll
spend Thurs/Fri/Sat (Hockey game Sun in Chicago) in WI chasing TA's
unless cx crap out.

1206 France as usual is in 2nd place here. 1215 UK/Spain not as good.
1377 France had some audio. Hets everywhere messing up my domestic
(Well NW USA/Canada ) sunset DX.

By sunset DX I mean nice reception of KPRI 1550 with Indian
