I agree with Josh. The coolest feature of Java3D is the scenegraph concept. Scenegraph is very elegant OO way do to 3D, and there are some cool 3D APIs using it as IDX3D, Anfy and the upcoming Xith3 ( https://xith3d.dev.java.net/) Some guys from Sun told us that Sun is and will continue support Jav

A very good point. And if Java3D can't meet your needs, then an alternative might be to use Xith3D, an open-source, scene-graph renderer, with an API similar to Java3D, to continue your lessons. The development is still at the alpha stage, but things appear to moving along quickly. You can find mo

In my experience, when reading the image data like you have done in this method, the object creation is insignificant compared to the readRaster call. Generally I think, reading the image data from the graphics card is going to be very slow. Sean On Thu, 2003-10-02 at 04:30, Auguste Genovesio wro

We tried this but unfortunately it doesn't work. The ScreenAttribute affects the Screen3D object which is the same for left and center in your suggested config. Looks like the syntax is a bit loose in this case and so lets you do stuff that doesn't work. --- > I think you should b

I think you should be able to create screens on the same device, no? e.g. in our ConfiguredUniverse file we have (NewScreen left0) (NewScreen center 1) (NewScreen right 2) (NewScreen floor 3) (ScreenAttributeleftPhysicalScreenWidth 2.438) (ScreenAttributeleftP

Look at the Java3D forum on www.java.net and look for an answer there. I think they have not issued an offical statement, so ... People still use it (alot). Zak Nixon Davidson Technologies Inc. - Original Message - From: "David Murphy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent

You can check the archives for lots of discussion about this. In my mind though, Java3D's future shouldn't have any immediate impact on a university course. The goal of most courses is learning theory that can be applied to any language/API. If the goal of this course is to learn 3D graphics progr

Hi folks, is it possible to get a definitive statement on the status of the Java 3D API? Are Sun continuing to support and develop the API, or has it been deprecated in favour of jogl? The feedback I receive from this email will determine whether or not I will teach J3D in my classes this year (or

actually this is the same for ImageComponent and Raster so the only thing wich should stay - INSIDE - the method should be SendImage(ctx.readRaster(ras)); the rest is OUTSIDE, once for all. tiagoscalheiros wrote: Hi, I have rewrited the postswap() of a canvas 3d to collect a bufferedImage of

I don't know that much in Java3D but in the point of view of image processing i would suggest that, if you don't need to keep the images after but need to get it one by one, you should create 1 (Buffered)image once for all. Each time you collect the canvas3D in the case you showed, you create a new
