I have had the Adobe 8 version since it first came out and like its previous
version it comes with its own accessible format for screen readers and it is
free.

Hi All,

suggested that folks run, not walk to get Adobe Reader 8 which seems
to be the new name of our old friend Acrobat and I was wondering how

I'll check the FS site after more caffeine and a break, but was

2007-01-12 Thread Ricque

Hi Margaret,
I am running Adobe Reader 8, with Jaws 6.2 on Windows XP,
and have had no problems so far.
The download process is somewhat different than previous versions, as it is
actually a download manager for Adobe, instead of a stand-alone executeable
for the reader.
You have to pay atention during the download, as it includes the Google tool
bar, and another Adobe product, which you can opt out of.
Here is the link for the download:

[JAWS-Users] Re: Word 2000 and Menus Problem

2007-01-12 Thread Bill Gallik

Taika,

I am sure that what Andrew means is that you close JAWS and then start it up
again. I have a similar problem as you and so when it occurs I use the
INSERT+F4 to close JAWS and the ALT+CONTROL+J hot key to restart
JAWS and everything is then fine. It usually takes about 15 seconds to
execute this maneuver, and yes I know it is annoying.

And sometimes, I just open the view menu and switch from Normal View to
Print View (or vice versa) and JAWS then begins reading the page as it
should.

I am having a problem with Word 2000. I use XP Home, JAWS 6.0, Outlook
Express and Word 2000.
For some reason, when I am in a Word Document, either reading one or
creating one, when I press the alt key for menus, JAWS is silent.
Maneuvering with the Say Line and JAWS cursor, I can get things done,
usually, but in a very laborious way which also wastes valuable time.

I am sure that I must have accidentally checked or unchecked some setting
somewhere. Have I given enough information for anybody to recognize what
could be going on and how I can fix it?
Thanks always.

[JAWS-Users] Outlook Office Student 2003

2007-01-12 Thread Geno69

To the group:
I am sorry for the test. For those that have not and want to up to 2003 and
little nervous? Well, I've learned that in this program mention in the
subject. If you use the windows short cut command (ALT plus the N key, this
will bring up the window for your e-mail accounts. Just by arrowing up and
down. Jaws will read them very well. You make sure the account you want to
use and then enter on it.
This is what I am doing to make sure all is in play.
A: if you don't know the entire spelling of a person or also want to do a
hidden account.
ALT N for a new message, Control/Shift and B and listen, your list will auto
load (do not tab) hit the first letter and arrow down through the list. Once
you have the account tab down and listen to and do as noted. Tab to ok and
then you will hear the person or group name. At this point I just do the ALT
N and then pick the account and hit enter and then down to the subject and
message.
This way I've not forgotten to pick the proper address before sending.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Adobe Reader 8 and JAWS

2007-01-12 Thread Walt Smith

Just remember that while Adobe Reader does have accessibility _settings_,
the screen access technology companies still have to make their individual
programs work with it.

The problem with using Acrobat Reader 8 with JAWS 6.2 may be that JAWS 6.2
wasn't around at the time of; and, hence, couldn't be tested with; Acrobat
Reader 8. This is not true of JAWS 8.0.

I get concerned about people who don't keep their screen access systems
current because of the cost, yet who insist on installing the very latest
versions of some utility or other because it's free. In effect, this is just
asking for trouble, since the screen access system simply can't be expected
to work with programs that were developed years after it came on the market,
nor should it be. The single most important program you have on your
computer after the operating system is your version of JAWS and either keep
it as current as possible or don't add anything new to your computer and
then expect an old version of JAWS to work with the new program.

[JAWS-Users] ACB Radio On Desktop

2007-01-12 Thread Donnie Parrett

I am wondering if it is possible to create an icon on my desktop that will take
me directly to
www.acbradio.org/mainstream.wax
I tried using the applications key here to create the icon and it wouldn't let
me do so. I am
wondering is there another way to do it?

See ya,
Scooter

Donny -

1. Copy the link in David's message to the clipboard.
2. If you have a Windows Media Player link already on your desktop, navigate
to it and press the Applications key. Then, press the letter C to copy it.
3. You will probably end up with an icon named Copy of Windows Media Player.
Press F2 (as I explained to you once before) to rename it to something more
useful (such as ACB Radio).
4. Now, press ALT+ENTER to open the shortcut and in the first field, delete
the existing contents and press CTRL+V to paste the link from David's
message.
5. TAB to OK and press ENTER.

That should do it. If you don't have a link to Media Player on the desktop
already, create one by doing the following:

1. Open My Computer and open your C-drive.
2. Navigate to the Documents and Settings folder and press ENTER.
3. Now, you may have to look in more than one place for this. Open the
various folders in Documents and Settings, open the Start Menu folder, open
Programs and look for a shortcut there to Windows Media Player.
4. Press CTRL+C to copy this shortcut.
5. Open the Documents and Settings folder for either your personal computer
account name or for All Users.
6. Open the Desktop folder and press CTRL+V to paste the copy of the Windows
Media Player shortcut.
7. Now, follow the first set of instructions, above.

 Hi Mich,

If you want to use Winamp, follow the below instructions.

 1. Open the Winamp program.

 2. ctrl-tab to the playlist window. If it isn't already open, use the
keystroke of alt-E to open it, then ctrl-tab over to it.

 3. Chances are whatever you had played with Winamp before the last time
 you
shut it down is still in there, so press ctrl-A to select everything in
 the
current window, then press the delete key.

Your window should now be empty.

 4. press the keystroke of ctrl-L to open up a URL and paste the address
 you
posted to the list in there.

Make sure that the URL ends with MP3 or M3U, otherwise you may get an
 error.
If on the other hand it doesn't, then go ahead and paste the URL in there
 anyway and see what happens.

 5. Once it starts playing, pause the playback with the spacebar, then make
sure you are still in the playlist window. If you are, then save the
playlist by doing a ctrl-S and typing in the playlist name in the
 proceeding
dialog box, such as ACB Radio Direct or something like that.

 6. Shift-tab to the previous window in the tab order, and indicate where
 you
want to save the file. My advice is to hit the backspace key until you
 stop
hearing clicking noises. This will take you directly to the desktop, at
which point you can tab over to the o.k. button and press enter. This
should now create an icon on your desktop with the same file name as the
 playlist.

You can do it this way, or you can save it in another folder in your My
Documents folder, then create a shortcut to the desktop. This is what you
should do if you intend to change the name of the shortcut you placed on
your desktop, otherwise you'll get the error that you shouldn't modify the
extension of a file and that sort of stuff.

Anyway, let me know if you have any other questions.

 Victor

No I have not heard aanything from fs.
I don't spend all day on the computer looking for news from fs, I have a job
there for I don't have all the time to spend looking for news from fs.
witch is why I asked the question if anyone knew when this would be fixed.
a simmple no would have been answer enough.
no need to respond rudely to me, as if I know nothing.

Any idea when fs plans to issue an update for jaws 8.0 to fix this issue of
closing outlook express and having jaws crash?
I am using 8.0.423 and it happens to offten.

[JAWS-Users] Re: jaws update?

2007-01-12 Thread Ricque

Corey,
I'm not disputing whether or not anyone else has had the same problem,
I was simply asking whether or not you contacted Freedom Scientific about
it.
If you are having an issue with Jaws in a particular situation,
then the best thing to do is make Freedom Scientific aware of it, in the
proper manner.
If they don't know about a problem, then they can't very well check into it,
much less issue a patch for it.
Sometimes it may be possible for them to offer a solution, even if the
problem isn't being experienced by others.
If you don't have time to contact them right away due to your work
schedule, then I would go back to an earlier version of Jaws where you
didn't experience this problem, until your schedule permits you to talk with
them.
