Sorry, I thought it was Outlook. I do know if in Outlook you are using Word
as your editor, your insert menu does not look the same. I do not know how
any of this works in Outlook Express.

Sometimes when someone sends me a link by email I am unable to click on it.
Most of the time all I have to do is just hit enter on the link and it will
open, but sometimes I have to find my mouse and move it to the link and
click on it that way. With what little vision I have, it is quite difficult
to find the mouse and use it that way. Is there something else I can do to
make these links work all the time by just using the enter key? I am using
JAWS 7.0, Window XP Home and Outlook 2000.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Jaws 7.x or 8.x with spell-check

2007-05-22 Thread Annette Carr
Sometimes after you spell check a document and then make edits to it, the
spell check marks do not get removed from the document. Some place under
Tools, Options there is a way to clear those marks out and then re-run the
spell check.

This is sometimes a problem after scanning a document through an OCR package
like WynnWizard. All of the miss spelled words get marked as ignore. Now
as I am giving this more thoughts, I think you might have to do a select all
before going into options.

I'm sorry for being vague. Now that I am working full-time and commuting
over an hour each way, my brain is heading to bed by this time of the day.
Let me know if you figure it out. If not, let me know what you try, and
maybe it will trigger some dusty memory sitting in the dark corners of my
brain.

Hi Folks,

This morning while getting ready for a come to Jesus meeting

approximately 27 pages.
Jaws continually tells me that the spell-check is complete and offers me the
ok button. I know better than that because the document contains some proper
names that I haven't saved to the dictionary.
I have tried the following:

Both Jaws 7.x and 8.x.

Made certain the application window was maximized.

Tried spellchecking selected blocks of text with in the document to no
avail.

Ran a repair on office

I am using Windows XP home and office XP pro.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Managing photos

2007-04-30 Thread Annette Carr
Hi I can share with you how I manage digital pictures.

Usually, I've got a sighted person taking the pictures for me. I have them
provide me with info so that I either make a list on my computer, or on my
digital recorder. This list contains a very brief description of the
picture, and either its actual number from the camera, or which picture in
the sequence it is, first, second, etc.

When I connect my digital camera to my computer, it appears in the My
Computer list as just another drive. I navigate to the folder on the
camera storage device and locate the list of pictures currently residing on
it.

I then copy the pictures to a folder on my computer. You will either
identify the pictures by their number assigned by the camera, or you will
just have to remember that the pictures you are looking for are the last 5
pictures, for example.

Once I have the pictures on my hard drive, I rename them to something that
will remind me of the pictures contents.

You are going to have to hope someone else knows what to do to post these
pictures up on e-bay.

HTH,
Annette

Hi Folks,

I want to put a couple of big ticket items on EBay.
In order to do this correctly I will need to provide some pictures of the
items in question.
Has anybody had any experience with managing photos with Jaws? specifically
from the digital camera to a folder and then to the EBay oction site.
I am using either JFW 7.x or 8.x which either one will work best, Windows XP
home and an Olympus M10 digital camera. I will need to transfer the pictures
directly from the camera to my computer because I do not own a card reader.

I am totally ignorant of this entire process so please be as descriptive as
you can.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

I just wanted to post that it is in the middle of a rewrite at this time.
You will notice that the headings will be rearranged alphabetical but other
than that the changes will be internal for organizational purposes. The
reason is the page has grown like the rest of the site much larger than I
expected and the directories are getting cluttered. I would also like to
announce that the home page has been hit over 7000 times since last March 17
when I first put a hit counter on it. So it would seem keeping up with it
should remain on my schedule of things to do. This list now has 241 members,
personally I'm impressed.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: JAWS and two sound cards

Sherry,

I recommend you run all other sounds through the default sound card and
also set up an entry in the JFW.INI file to allow you to ask JAWS through
the secondary sound device. I will include the pertinent entries in my
JFW.INI file because I think that will be more clear than the abstract
explanation as how to do this:

[Synthesizers]
Synth1Name=accentsa
Synth1LongName=Accent SA
Synth1Port=Com1:9600,n,8,1,x
Synth1Driver=accentsa
Synth2Name=eloq
Synth2LongName=Eloquence for JAWS
Synth2Driver=eloq
Synth3Name=eloqUSB
Synth3LongName=Eloquence via USB for JAWS Synth3Driver=eloq Synth3Port=USB
Audio Device

Note that the Synth#Driver=eloq entry for both the standard Eloquence and
via the secondary audio device are identical; this is because eloq is the
program that will run regardless of which device is in use. Also note that
the Synth#Port for the entries deploying the secondary audio device is
utilized and should be the exact name identified from the Audio tab of the
Control-Panel/SoundsMulti_media. This will be identified from the
Preferred Device list and must match that list entry exactly.

The Synth#Longname=__ can be anything you like, but it would be
helpful if it reflects the synthesizer and indicates that it may be the
primary or secondary audio device -- this entry is where the list of
synthesizers comes from when going into the JAWS
Languages/Change-Synthesizer menu.

The Synth#Name=__ entry is also quite open for whatever you like to
use, but remember that this value will be used in any JAWS shortcut that
will instruct JAWS which synthesizer to use. For example, the Start JAWS
with Eloquence item in the JAWS sub-menu calls for JAWS to run with the
/seloq switch in force. In other words, if you want to tell JAWS to run
with a specific synthsizer from launch you use the /s switch and the value
of the Synth#Name= entry for that particular synthesizer.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

HTH

There probably is a command to either turn off your monitor, or at least
turn down the brightness.
But it depends on what brand you are using.
For a Dell, you can do a function key down arrow to dim the brightness, but
don't know of any command to actually turn it off.
On a Sony you can do a function key f5 to dim it, but again, no command to
actually turn it off.
If you have someone sighted to look at your functions keys along the top,
you should see a picture telling you how you can use that key along with the
function key.
Don't be confused, the functions keys across the top, f1 - f12, or different
than the stand alone function key located elsewhere on your keyboard.

[JAWS-Users] Re: turning off the monitor

2007-03-03 Thread Annette Carr

Interesting that you say that. I've never had a problem with using that
function until my Dell Latitude D420. When the laptop is in the docking
station and I switch the display to external only, JAWS is not happy. If I
leave it on both laptop and external, JAWS is fine. Now I have not tried
using the external monitor with the docking station, so I am not sure if
that will change how JAWS responds.

Annette,
When you do the function key f8 to switch monitors, does Jaws still work if
there isn't an alternate monitor?
Jaws always quit speaking whenever I would do that. I don't have a Dell now
or I would give it another try.
Thanks,

On both my Dell laptops, the keyboard Function key +F8 cycles the video
display output from Laptop, to Laptop and External, to external only, and
finally back to Laptop. All of my Toshibas that I have used over the years
have had a similar key combination.

Usually, keys that work with the keyboard Function key are coded with a
different colored image. Have a sighted person look at the keyboard and see
if they can find an icon on a key that represents a video display and
matches the color on the keyboard Function key.

Hi Folks,

I know that those of you who are expert keyboarders have complained about
out typing Jaws for a very long time.
Have you speed fingers been able to come up with a fix?
My job requires that I craft some fairly long reports and for the first time
I have found myself waiting for Jaws to catch up to my remedial typing
skills.
FYI, I was trained as a Columbus typist, this means you pick a key and land
on it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I found this in the help of Jaws 7.10.

Reading Excel Charts

Once a chart in Excel gains focus, JAWS reads it using the Virtual Cursor.
You may navigate the same as you would on a web page in Internet Explorer.
Once
you finish using the Virtual Cursor, press ESC to return to the worksheet.

If you try to use the Select Worksheet Objects function when a chart is
already active, a bug in Excel prevents another object from being selected.
You
must first press ESC to deactivate the chart before trying to select another
chart.

JAWS now recognizes and speaks the types and titles of all 14 chart types
and 73 subtypes, though detailed descriptions are only available for line,
bar,
column, cylinder, pyramid, cone, pie, doughnut and xy-scatter charts and for
their subtypes.

Note: Trend lines are not yet described.

Chart descriptions are spoken when a chart has focus and you press
INSERT+F1.

An Example Of a Chart Description:
list of 4 items
. Chart type.
. Chart title.
. Axes titles.
. Number of series.
list end

Each series is described, beginning with its legend, followed by the number
of points in the series.

The point number, data label (if it has one), category name, and value
describe each point.

When charts are described for which percentage contributions are not spoken,
and if there are several contiguous categories with the same value, rather
than announcing each identical point or bar, JAWS collects the items and
speaks the range.

Back Alt+b

Next Alt+x

[JAWS-Users] Re: Outlook Address Book

2007-02-28 Thread Annette Carr

There are 2 things that I think you need to make sure are checked in your
e-mail settings.

Go to the Tools menu on the menu bar.
Select Options.
Tab to E-mail...
On the Preferences tab select the Advanced button.
There are 2 check boxes on this tab that need to be checked. One has to do
with completing names, and the other has to do with suggesting names. If
they are not checked, press space on each one to check them.
Click OK in each dialog box until you are back to Outlook.

Tell your sister that Outlook does this a bit different. When she is
creating a new message and she's in the to field just start typing
the person's name in. She can either type part or all of it.
Outlook will fill it in automatically after she leaves the field. If
there is more than one match in the address book she will be prompted
to choose which address she wants once she goes to send the message.
She can confirm what is in the field by hitting the alt key and the #
3 key on the keyboard not the number pad. Let me know if you have
 other questions.

I found this at JFWlite under hints/tricks..

Creating Charts with Excel and JFW
Here is an example.
say you're in excel and in column A, you have the names of sales reps going
from
A1 down to A10. then in column B, you have the amount each has sold that
month.
So, you have two lots of data, sales rep name and their sales.
go to the bottom cell,B10 and highlight up to the top using control shift
and up after you have located yourself in B10.
Now go to the insert menu and arrow down until you hear chart.
Enter here and the chart wizard will start up. This is a four step wizard.
let's say your boss wants a pie chart.
In step one you are given a whole load of chart types you can choose from.
go to Pie and enter.
the second step of the wizard will then start and give you the co-
ordinates,cells, you have selected.
you keep pressing next button.
on the third step, you will be asked if you wish to assign label and
following the steps within this step this is tricky but becomes easier with
practice.
The
fourth step asks if you want to put the chart in the sheet or to a separate
document, this is up to you but I normally go for a separate document as you
can then copy and paste into a word document and place text above or below
the chart.
You then click finish, and hey presto, a pie chart. Or indeed, any other
type of chart you want.
If you are using a colour printer, the charts appear in colour, if not they
will be printed in various shades of grey.
Also, while still in excel you can go to the view menu and into Zoom, to
make the chart appear much larger on the printed sheet.

I haven't done any actual experiments with this configuration, but it is my
understanding that the real problem attempting to run JAWS or WindowEyes
with Dragon is the resource battle on the sound card that acts as both input
and output devices. And, of course, there's the problem of Dragon hearing
JAWS or WindowEyes yammering in the background while the user attempts to
talk Dragon into doing what's desired.

I'm wondering if, by installing a secondary audio device, JAWS was
instructed to utilize the secondary audio device and the user employed
earphones that possibly Dragon and JAWS would play nice on the same
PC?!?!? Just a thought!

[JAWS-Users] Re: outlook address book

2007-02-20 Thread Annette Carr
In addition to the Address book, or other wise known as the Contacts,
Outlook stores e-mail addresses of people you have sent messages to. Since
Outlook 2000 I've never been able to find where these are stored. I'm
hoping someone on this list will be able to point us in the right direction,
because it drives me crazy when JAWS starts to read an address and I can't
figure out what it is saying. If I could only delete these it would make
JAWS and I get along much better.

Hey Gang,
I have a friend that has outlook 2003, and she is trying to get to her
address book. Here is her question?

When I hit control shift c it does bring up the contact page. So that is
handy to know. I have about five names I have put in as new contacts, but
when I am trying to find is the place where it stores people who I have sent
email to in the past, not just the sent messages but the list of all the
people I've contacted. It has them somewhere because in the to field of any
new message if I start typing the first name of someone it brings up their
address but I don't know where it's getting that from., That's what I am
looking for but I think that Boop or someone said you can't do that in
Outlook 2003 which is what this is so it may not be possible.

Can you help her thanks?

[JAWS-Users] Re: outlook address book

2007-02-20 Thread Annette Carr

Outlook does use a pst to back up your data from all of your folders, i.e.
inbox, contact, calendar, and other personal folders. But Outlook stores
the e-mail addresses of people you've sent mail to when you don't have those
people in your contacts.

Hi Annette,
Just got in, so I haven't had a chance to research this yet.
I believe the file that Outlook uses is a .pst.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Jaws 8 repeating big-time

2007-02-02 Thread Annette Carr

If I am understanding you correctly, I am having the same problem with JAWS
7.1.5 and with 8 when using Outlook 2003. When using the up and down arrow
to scroll through the messages in my inbox, JAWS only reads the info from
one message and keeps repeating it as if your entire inbox is filled with
many messages from this one person on this one topic. I think the problem
is currently caused when new mail comes in while I am scrolling down through
the messages. In the past it used to happen when I had scrolled down
through the first screen worth of messages and then the remaining messages
were causing the previous messages to scroll up.

To fix the problem I minimize all programs by doing a Windows key+m, and
then ALT+TAB to get back to the Outlook inbox.

HTH,
Annette

Right now I hate the damn thing however, I am sure that will change. One of
the immediate issues I am having with Outlook XP is Jaws
8 repeats name and subject line information while arrowing through the list
in the in-box. Any ideas how to stop this? I am using Office XP Pro and
Windows XP Home

[JAWS-Users] Re: printing business cards using JAWS?

2007-01-11 Thread Annette Carr
Under the Tools menu there is an item for envelops and labels. You have to
go in and move to the labels tab. There is a way in there to select the
label layout. I believe there is one for business cards. If he has already
bought the laser printer card stock to print the cards on, he need to get
the number off of the cards, or the package.

Let me know if you have more questions.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Jaws and ATI

2007-01-06 Thread Annette Carr

Marsha,

Are you using JAWS and ZoomText on the same machine, or even at the same
time. There are some known conflicts with these 2 programs, which I don't
remember the specifics about. All I do remember is that at work, the only
solution we came up with was to be sure to run JAWS and ZoomText on separate
machines. Even if they are not running simultaneously, they both need
certain parameters set and thus don't play well together on the same turf.

Since the information you have came from Zoomtext, why not contact them? Are
you running Zoomtext when this takes place? I have an ATI card in my Dell
system and that driver (DCMD0C0.dll) is not on my system. There must be more
to the message than simply that driver name--are you sure there isn't more
being displayed? What version of JAWS are you using? My suggestion is to get
the latest ATI drivers for your computer and install them, as I think I've
said before.

Hi
I don't want to keep beating a dead horse; however, I will try one more
time. When the computer decides to crash, which can be any time or a long
period of time, I get the following message.

DCMC0d0.dll

When the crash occurs, most of the time, there is an awful noise which
comes through the speakers. I've found some information on this subject but
it is talking about the Nvidia card while I am talking about the ATI card.
Zoom text says in some post, to delete the dcmc.0d0.dll file. Since I have
no idea what this means and since it is talking about an Nvidia card, I
don't know what to do.

Donnie,
There is only one way I know of to do this, but it takes a lot of work and
then sometimes you will miss an incoming message in Outlook.
What I did is to assign a different sound to each list I am subscribed to
and to each person I receive email from regularly. Then I turned off the
play a sound when mail arrives in the tools options of Outlook.
But I have an email sound assigned in the control panel under sounds.
This way the default sound will play when you receive a message in Outlook
Express and only hear those sounds you have assigned in Outlook when you get
a message from that list or person.
Like I said, it's a lot of work and if you don't have a sound assigned for
someone you receive a message from, you won't know you have a new email
message unless you look.
Other than this, I don't know of any other way.

Denny

Yes, it very definitely would. There are two entirely different licenses
involved--you own one and (I assume) the university owns the other. There
are two different serial numbers; the whole nine yards.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Installing Jaws 7.0 on to another computer

2006-12-07 Thread Annette Carr

Hi,

I just got a new computer at work, and wanted to have both systems up and
running so that I could begin to learn to use the new computer, while
continuing to be productive on my old computer, as well as transfer my data
from one computer to the other. When I installed JAWS on the new computer,
it told me that the serial number was already in use with another computer
so I could only work in demo mode. I had to call FS to get them to release
the old computer and allow me to use the serial number on the new computer.
Then I was left with working in demo mode with the old computer. I was not
happy about this.

In the past I've been able to run my one copy of JAWS on my old computer
while moving over to my new computer. Matter of fact, I thought we were
permitted to use our personal copy of JAWS on more then one computer as long
as we were not using the machines simultaneously.

I have several on-line banking accounts and one of the typical features of
such services is to provide for downloading records directly from the host
site to your PC so you can access the information with your programs on your
PC. I only mention this because I wonder if Money Talks can use files
formatted for MS Money or Quicken. Somehow I doubt this is the case, but
just something I thought I'd pass along to the list.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Alt-Tab

2006-12-01 Thread Annette Carr

Good suggestion Hailley! I was sitting here trying to remember how else to
move from file to file. I tell you, this training with a new dog guide is
exhausting me, and my brain is not working.

I have a strange question also connected with alt tab. This problem only
happened after a tech support call with Freedom Scientific, and I don't
 know
what they told me to do to cause it but ever since . . .

The only way to move between MS Word documents is with Control f6. Alt tab
only switches between applications, and does not switch me from one doc to
another in the same application. Also, if I close one document in MS Word,
they all seem to close. This is driving my crazy since I have to work with
multiple documents at once. Also, there are many times when Jaws can't
 read
me the text but the window is maximized. It's like something is blocking
 it.
The line just appears to be blank. Sometimes Jaws will read the same line
twice when I'm actually on the line below that one. Anyone know what might
possibly be going on? I don't feel like having our IT person have to
completely reinstall Windows and Office. This happens with Jaws 8 as well
 as
 Jaws 7.1.

 Hi Yall,

Is there any rhyme or reason why sometimes when alt-tabbing from one app
 to
another jaws will say something like task switching and other times it
 just
 says the application?
Wondering if I'm doing something I'm not aware of over here for it to say
 this?

 Thanksya,

 Hailley
