No, Adrian, not blaming the messenger. smile
The instructions should read more like this:
1. Activate the run dialog "windows key+r"
2. Wait until JAWS stops talking and type in:
jaws17 /default
3. Unload the JAWS software from memory "JAWS key+f4 followed by enter"
4. and hit enter again to
I use jaws on a virtual machine instead of logging into the server like
everyone else. This is so they can keep jaws to just me and not be there for
everyone else. Seems to work as if it was installed on a pc with remote
desktop. I connect to this VM with remote access.
Thanks,
Jason

Accessible Desktop Facebook Client
Hi I'm using Facebook for a writing group coaching program I'm in.
Are there any desktop Facebook clients? The site's pretty accessible,
but a desktop client would be easier.

As far as I know, you can easily do this by going into your Explore My
Settings option, and delete all the files with the word, "default" in it.
This will force Jaws to create a new set of default files to replace the
ones you deleted when you restart Jaws after the deletion.
If you have
Fair point, Rick. I literally copied FS's instructions. Can I say, don't blame
the messenger! But I remember following these instructions, ignoring that "stop
talking" phrase, and succeeding in getting JAWS to run in default mode.

Hi Adrian,
Am I missing something here?
The instructions you posted say to unload Jaws, yet step 3 says wait until
Jaws stops talking before typing in the run dialogue.

Actually, my list of problems was pretty long. I was thinking since you had
it up and running and were only experiencing issues with focus when a new
message came in, that maybe there had been some significant improvements.

Are you using the regular MS word ribbon or the JAWS virtual ribbon, which I
believe prevents shortcuts from working?

Hi, Jason.
Only because I, like you, want information on this list to be correct, I have
to point out your memory is letting you down here. Rather than download a JAWS
installer, whatever that may be, you must be sure you have on your C drive a
copy of the file for the version (including

Here are instructions I received from FS on how to run JAWS in default mode:
1. Unload the JAWS software from memory "JAWS key+f4 followed by enter"
2. Activate the run dialog "windows key+r"
3. Wait until JAWS stop talking and type in:
jaws17 /default
and hit enter.

Hi Courtney,
How about trying these simple things first, before repairing or
re-installing Jaws:
Try these one at a time, and see if the problem persists after taking each
action.
1. Try unloading, then reloading Jaws .
2. Try re-booting the computer.
3. From the Jaws application window, open
My work-a-round has been to not run Skype for Business. They are not happy
with me at work, but since they are paying me to be productive this was the

EdSharp works reliably. It isn't a substitue for Emacs or Vim under Linux

Hi all,
Well, somehow, today at work, I discovered that JAWS wouldn't read anything
whatsoever in Firefox. The whole page sounds blank to me, and JAWS souldn't
read any of the menu items either. So I assumed the latest Firefox update they
pushed to our computers might have been the problem.
Both of these do not echo text when highlighting. Any others that work well?
Anyone use text pad still?

Hi,
I guess I need to be reintroduced to the graphics area of jaws, and
would really like it if you can tell me how to keep jaws from saying
graphic all the time, and tell me if you would how to label a graphic
once I'm sure what it is.
thanks,
