Hi List:

Does anyone know a good tutorial for the computer illiterate for Outlook
2010?

I have been using XP-Home and Outlook Express with JAWS 10 for years.
However, I am now using a new laptop with Windows 7 and JAWS 11.
Outlook

Express is no longer an option and the Live Mail program that came
installed
is beyond me so I downloaded a demo of Outlook 2010 and am trying to
learn
it but its help menu keeps going out of focus, the delete key and the
key

between the insert and enter keys of the number pad don't seem to work
and
control+delete is silent all of the time when I try to delete incoming
messages with it and sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I would
like

to
try Windows Mail that seems to be a part of Vista (I never did use a
computer with Vista) but have no idea how to put it on a computer with
Windows 7.

Any thoughts on what to do to transfer from being a user of Outlook
Express
to becoming at all conversant with Outlook 2010 would be most
appreciated.
To reiterate, I am using a laptop with a desktop keyboard with Windows
7,

JAWS 11 and Outlook 2010.

Thanks.

There are often special buttons on laptops to increase or decrease the
volume. These are usually located above the keyboard if you have them.

Otherwise there are some programmes you can load for the purpose or you do
so with controls in your system tray.

[JAWS-Users] yesterday's daily information

2010-12-19 Thread David Ferrin
I just got to it right now, never the less here it is folks.

Daily Tip:
Max Out Your Notebook Power

Notebook battery power is precious when you're traveling, so make the most of
your last charge by following a couple of tips. Run as few programs as
possible. That includes shutting down any programs that plop icons onto the
system tray on the bottom-right side of your Desktop. Add more memory.
Additional RAM lets your machine compute more efficiently. And consider
investing in an extra battery. Be sure to compare prices between retailers,
though, because batteries cost a lot of money and prices vary wildly from store
to store.

  Daily Term:

More commonly referred to as WLAN. This is a network that uses wireless means
to transmit data from one point to another, rather than by using a more
traditional wired LAN configuration.

I set the self extractor to place the files in a location that was not used
by any other programs for the purpose of making them easy to find. The
directions along with everything else needed will be located there. Once you
are finished you can delete that folder or save the files in case you would
ever need them again. They will be on the web site though so long as the
page is posted on the internet. So which ever method you wish to use it is

[JAWS-Users] today's daily information

2010-12-19 Thread David Ferrin
Daily Tip:
Repeater Repeater

Your small business is doing well, and you've decided to move to a more
expansive locale.

Unfortunately, these bigger digs welcome almost everything but your wireless
network. If you

need your wireless network to cover more territory, buying a repeater is an
affordable

solution. A repeater essentially acts as the middleman between a wireless
access point and

any PCs beyond the access point's normal range. Many repeaters are compatible
with wireless

encryption standards, letting you securely grow your network without worrying
about unwanted

intruders.

  Daily Term:
localization

A change in a program made so it will work better for a specific group or
function. For

example, localization might include changes that take into account a different
language,

such as Japanese. One such change might be translating commands in menus from
English to

Japanese.

I doubt it, I believe that programme only searches for software hot keys,
the sort that creating shortcuts for launching programmes creates. If there
are built-in shortcut keys they will be in the computer manuals or some of
the help screens. If you have someone who can see they may find some
combinations of keys denoted by pictures of speakers with arrows up and
down. There are probably others with antenna icons on them for turning on
the WiFi radio and things like that, maybe spy glass icons for screen
magnification, all kinds of stuff.

I used to have a programme which allowed one to set up keys for volume up
and down over 10 years ago, I expect it is still out there somewhere but I'd
bet there is something on your computer to allow this.

The only thing I have in my system tray relating to that is the usual
volume icon, which gives me the choices of either opening audio
properties and opening volume control. I was looking for a quicker way
to do that. I heard someone talking the other day about hotkey detective.
Would that let me know if there are hotkeys on here for volume?

There are often special buttons on laptops to increase or decrease the
volume. These are usually located above the keyboard if you have them.

Otherwise there are some programmes you can load for the purpose or you
do so with controls in your system tray.

One other way to help increase your battery life, that works for blinks,
is that we can set the screen brightness to it's lowest setting. At
least, on my laptop, there is a hot key to change the brightness, so if I
need a sighted person to take a look, I can just bump the brightness back

Deana,

there may be a combination for muting the sound too. If Jaws suddenly quits
along with Windows sounds and other things you have found it. Maybe FN-12 or
FN-9. Usually it is a toggle but it might also return with Volume Up.

Don't know if the mute stays in effect if you turn off and back on again.

Just be aware it may be an option on your computer.

Many laptops, particularly some of the newer ones with larger screens, have
separate volume buttons. On my HP, they are on a small metal strip above
the function keys. They are not denoted tactually, so I had to up a braille
label above the mute, up and down volume controls, and the area where you
touch to activate the wireless card.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

I must point out boys and girls this is not something you should try
unless
you are somebody quite confident in your abilities. It's not hard but you
 need to do it right.

The last item currently on the programs page under the email heading.
Directions and registry keys you will need, it's all there in a self

It is possible to put windows mail or more accurately enable windows
 mail
 on
windows 7. In case you're wondering if this is fact I have done it
 myself
already for a lady on the west coast last month using tandem. Rick has
 also
done it so we know it is very doable.

 Subject: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010

 Thanks.

 Linda

RJ, were you the one who offered to help folks with windows mail
installation on a windows 7 computer? If you were, I would like to get on
the list for help. Jim

[JAWS-Users] Express Batch in Backround

2010-12-19 Thread Victoria Vaughan
Hi folks, I've check the openbook 8 Users Guide to no avail. The
Freedomscientific web site also was of no use.

I would like to start an express batch in background and have it read to me as
it processes the pages. Even though the guide says we can do this, it does not
make it clear, how to tell it to start reading, once the first few pages are
ready to be read. It also doesn't tell us how to suspend scanning, when we've
grown tiered of standing there turning the pages.

Have any of you figured this out yet? If so, would you tell me how to do this?
It would make the scanning process a lot less boring!

Many thanks in advance! Vicky
