Hi Jim, I don't know how to tell you where to find the files in Windows 10, but here's where the ripped files go by default: To retrieve your extracted files go to My Documents / My Music / mp3 folder. This is where your files are extracted to by default no matter if you are extracting in .wav or mp3 format. Hopefully this will help a little bit. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Web Form Sliders
Hi, Scorpio. I recognize that you're asking a general question, but I'm not sure a general answer is possible. Besides NVDA, two workarounds occur to me, although neither might have worked. One is to have turned off the virtual cursor while in IE. The other is to have tried Firefox. I'm finding increasingly that Web designers expect people to be using Firefox and so design their websites accordingly. Apparently like you, my default is IE, but I have Firefox at hand for these situations. I do think it would be helpful to alert FS/VFO, maybe just by sending a copy of your message here to their email support address. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Scorpio Sent: Thursday, March 02, 2017 12:05 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Web Form Sliders Hi Folks, I’m wondering if this is a local problem, or a general one, as with using the Jaws cursor on the Windows settings window on Windows 10. I attempted to fill out a survey form for my health provider, using Internet Explorer, and it asked me to rate certain services of theirs. I couldn’t get past the 63% point because there were web forms containing sliders from strongly agree, to strongly disagree. Suffice it to say, Jaws just couldn’t pick these up, no matter how I attempted to get to them. Jaws would just go past them, as though they were simply blank lines. I attempted to use the Jaws cursor to click on the words below the sliders, and nothing would bring the sliders into focus in order to slide them left or right, up or down. Now, keep in mind that at this point, I had no idea that the sliders were even there. Jaws gave no indication of seeing them, and using the arrow keys, tabbing through the page, using the “F” key to jump to the next form control, or using the F6 command to bring up the list of form controls on the page. None of these systems worked. They simply weren’t there. My only choice was to diagnose the problem, in other words, was this screen reader specific, or an Internet Explorer bug, or maybe even a problem with the webpage, as is most often the case. In most cases, the webpage just isn’t formatted properly, but I then though, why would the provincial ministry ask us to fill out a form that was not accessible, especially when it was they who came up with the law, similar to what the Americans have with the ADA. Needless to say, I shut down Jaws, and started up NVDA, and lo and behold, the sliders were there. In fact, I finished the rest of the survey with NVDA, lest I miss any other form controls that might be hidden from Jaws. So, with all that being set, is this a local problem, just my computer, or is this a general Jaws bug with Internet Explorer. I should note that I am running the latest version of Jaws, the latest version of Internet Explorer, and the latest version of Windows 10 Pro. I can’t ask people to go to the page with the sliders, as it’s client specific, but the one page I know where there are sliders is the Google Search settings. There are sliders for certain settings that Jaws cannot see. In those instances, I asked my wife to help with those areas, but I wasn’t in a diagnosing mood at those times, and besides, Google was still new to the accessibility game, so I just discounted them as webpage bugs, but now I’m wondering if this was something else? Can anyone chime in on this thread. Perhaps this might even be cause for me to speak directly to Eric, or one of the Freedom Scientific support staff? [JAWS-Users] Facebook Edit Boxes in Google Chrome.
Hello, Listers, I have not been on a JAWS list since the freelists days. I am using Jaws 17, and have just discovered Google Chrome, love it, but find I am having problems in filling in edit boxes on Facebook. So far, I am not seeing the same problems on other sites. For instance, Jaws will make the click that opens the edit box, but when I think the letters I am typing are showing, they are not, nothing is being typed in. Any advice or ideas? Re: [JAWS-Users] Reading comments in word using JAWS
Hello Helga, When you move to the comment you can use the application key and you will find a menu item to edit the comment. When you press enter on the menu item you can move through the comment and change it. Press escape when done. Using CTRL with shift and apostrophe lists only the comments and pressing enter key on the one you want moves focus to it. At this point, use the application key and find the Edit Comment menu item. You can use Windows key with semi-colon but more than just comments are listed. If you use Windows key semicolon you still need to pick Comments from the list, follow the link for the one you want to work with and then use the edit comment item to make changes. Either way should work for you. When you use the application key you will also find menu items for deleting the comment, mark comment done and sometimes Reply to Comment. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] reg cleaners
Hi Patti, Give these steps by Subash a try: From: Subash Hi Patti, not sure if anyone answered already, but if not, here's how. Once you load Ccleaner, press alt C At this, it will put you on the Ccleaner button. Shift tab about 5 times and you should hear windows tab. At this, shift tab once more and you should hear internet explorer checkbox check. At this point arrow down and when you hear save password, press the spacebar to check or uncheck, checking this box tells CCleaner to remove them. For other browsers, tab once and when you hear windows tab, right arrow once and it will take you to applications tab. Shift tab once and you will get to the other browsers you have install and follow the same procedure as you did for the internet explorer. hth. Subas Take care. Adrien, I apologize, Good catch! [JAWS-Users] list memo FYI
I have been accused of doing something on the server side of things to mess with a members’ email account. This is not only false but frankly impossible. Never the less this only confirms a saying I came up with many years ago, “if you want somebody to think you’re lying tell them the truth”. We have never engaged in such practices or shared a persons’ email information with anybody. The membership list is only available to the three of us and that is all. Just stating my point for the record gang. Honestly though I have long since stopped caring about what other people say about me as my actions speak for themselves. Hi Sugar, That's because you are using the advance or intermediate jaws verbosity, if you were using the beginner, you would hear every little thing jaws did Also in the jaws option menu under basic, you can also quiet jaws down, on menus and dialogs readings, The less jaws talks makes it smoother to your ears. Re: [JAWS-Users] FW: blindspot for Spotify
Richard, for the record, I wasn't cross-posting in the sense we normally mean, that is, posting the same query to several lists at once. I was copying an item from another source that I hoped would contribute to the thread, as I might give a link to an article. That source happened to be a message posted on another list three years ago. Like others here, I'm trying to get to the bottom of why John's JAWS scripts for Spotify aren't available at the link we used to have. The last location anyone has found goes back to 2014. So, are these scripts still viable? Chris H had a perspective that I hoped would help. That said, I'll assume from now on that copying a message from another list is deemed cross-posting and I'll avoid doing it in the future. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Moderator Sent: Wednesday, March 01, 2017 5:44 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] FW: blindspot for Spotify Please refer to the list guidelines before posting such items. [JAWS-Users] New KNFBReader app for Windows 10
Dont knowif others have come across it yet, but seems that theres now a KNFBReader app available for Windows 10. If you have a laptop with a webcam or a stand-alone webcam or if you have a scanner its supposed to work as an oCR solution. Of course my luck, I just got around to upgrading to Kurzweil1000 14 last month. Anyway, for those who have downloaded it, can they comment on accuracy or if scans are comparable to K1000? Also, does this app work with Jaws unlike K1000 where you have to switch between programs and keyboard commands? If it takes away the step of switching between programs and keyboard commands, I may still be interested. Its on sale for $20.00 for the next couple of days. Whereas the regular price seems to be $100.00 like the iOS app For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
[JAWS-Users] An easier approach. Reading comments in word using JAWS
Hello Helga, There is a very handy JAWS method to more easily accomplish the task of reading comments imbedded in a Word document. When in the document, press/hold the Windows key, and press the ; key. That brings up a nice and clean JAWS box in which you can arrow to and press enter on any of the four options, comments, footnotes, endnotes, or revisions. Pressing enter on comments will give you what you want, a nice clean box in which the author of the note is shown, and the full text of the comment is displayed, and you can easily read the text with the usual arrow reading commands. (You can copy and paste any of that material, which is what I would do to put together a document back to the commenter, as opposed to trying to enter your own comments directly into the base Word document.) For each comment, there is a link you can press, and that takes you to that part of the document. The above works the same for the four categories, comments, footnotes, endnotes, revisions. The above works for me, and I cannot imagine an easier system for use with JAWS. Good luck. Hello everyone I will try this one more time. When I go to delete the items in my delete box there is no sound to let me know that it is being deleted. How can I have Jaws announce" are you sure you want to delete these items from the delete box?" It says this on my lap top but not on my desk top. It use to till I had issues with my e-Mail but now I am back, so it seems but now without jaws announceing this item. I do not want it to announce this upon closeing outlook, just when I am in the in the delte box. I hope this makes sense. Sorry. Sugar There is speaking grace. Colossians 4:6 says, "Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man." ~Blessings, Sugar --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] how do I set my junk mail settings in outlook 2010?
Jorge, you know I enjoy your posts, But this time your highway is a one-way street to nowhere, at least on my system. You start with shift-tab from an open message. When I press shift tab from an open message, I go back to the subject line. Also, before pressing j, I press the applications key. But pressing j after the applications key is better than messing around with up and down arrows, which is what I wrote before. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of TheHangMan Sent: Wednesday, March 01, 2017 5:19 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] how do I set my junk mail settings in outlook 2010? Hi Brian. How are you? I just wantd to tell you that it works. I did not have a chance to reply o back. NOw I just hve a question, can I spell out the sentence of the comments in order to read them word by word, character by character and so n? I'm just wondering since my Professor wrote me comments for my assignment and I want to write down the sentence that she wrote me since she want me to write it, so is there a way to spell out the comment after I do control shift apostrophe? JAWS read me but all of it, I just want to read word by word and so on. I look forward in hearing from you soon. Thanks and God bless! Hi Jerry, Once you press, Alt + R, to start a scan, after it's finished if youpress, Shift + Tab, 2 times you should be in a list of items that have been removed, or are waiting to be selected to be removed. Re: [JAWS-Users] my in box
Patty... Alt f follow by t for the backstage, press a for advance, tab to browse and press enter. You will land on a folder, verify which folder the account belongs to by closing the treview by tapping left arrow. From there, up or down arrow to the correct account, and expand the treview to focus on the folder you'd like. Tab to the ok button, then tab once more to the final ok button and press spacebar. [JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader Program. So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently. Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than first. So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is perfectly fine. The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then take it up with Freedom Scientific directly. Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Signatures and tag lines should not be more than a couple of sentences, three or four at the most. If you wish to include a tag line, don't make another message of it. Placing anything else in there simply increases the bandwidth required to handle the posted message and make it more work for a person who wishes to follow the given thread back to review previous messages, as they have to plow down past an overly long signature. Also please place your message above your signature line so as not to force people to read it before they get to your message. Also any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval. Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done for your protection. The message list might state that there is an attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them. When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 650 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here. Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines, then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not receive an answer for a number of reasons. Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you may receive an email from the server asking you to reactivate your account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a number of such messages then the server will remove your email address automatically. The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should only post in the following manner: Using the TO: field with only one list address. The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules to go by the to: field often times such rules get fouled up and in effect do not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. The SUBJECT: field should be short and to the point without including any member names. Please do not reply to a posted question simply to say you don't know
