Hi Jim,

I don't know how to tell you where to find the files in Windows 10, but
here's where the ripped files go by default:

To retrieve your extracted files go to My Documents / My Music / mp3
folder. This is where your files are extracted to by default no matter if
you are extracting in .wav or mp3 format.

Hopefully this will help a little bit.
Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Web Form Sliders

2017-03-01 Thread Adrian Spratt
Hi, Scorpio.

I recognize that you're asking a general question, but I'm not sure a general
answer is possible. Besides NVDA, two workarounds occur to me, although neither
might have worked. One is to have turned off the virtual cursor while in IE.
The other is to have tried Firefox. I'm finding increasingly that Web designers
expect people to be using Firefox and so design their websites accordingly.
Apparently like you, my default is IE, but I have Firefox at hand for these
situations. I do think it would be helpful to alert FS/VFO, maybe just by
sending a copy of your message here to their email support address.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Web Form Sliders

Hi Folks,

I’m wondering if this is a local problem, or a general one, as with using the
Jaws cursor on the Windows settings window on Windows 10.

I attempted to fill out a survey form for my health provider, using Internet
Explorer, and it asked me to rate certain services of theirs. I couldn’t get
past the 63% point because there were web forms containing sliders from
strongly agree, to strongly disagree.

Suffice it to say, Jaws just couldn’t pick these up, no matter how I attempted
to get to them.

Jaws would just go past them, as though they were simply blank lines.

I attempted to use the Jaws cursor to click on the words below the sliders, and
nothing would bring the sliders into focus in order to slide them left or
right, up or down.

Now, keep in mind that at this point, I had no idea that the sliders were even
there. Jaws gave no indication of seeing them, and using the arrow keys,
tabbing through the page, using the “F” key to jump to the next form control,
or using the F6 command to bring up the list of form controls on the page.
None of these systems worked. They simply weren’t there.

My only choice was to diagnose the problem, in other words, was this screen
reader specific, or an Internet Explorer bug, or maybe even a problem with the
webpage, as is most often the case. In most cases, the webpage just isn’t
formatted properly, but I then though, why would the provincial ministry ask us
to fill out a form that was not accessible, especially when it was they who
came up with the law, similar to what the Americans have with the ADA.

Needless to say, I shut down Jaws, and started up NVDA, and lo and behold, the
sliders were there. In fact, I finished the rest of the survey with NVDA, lest
I miss any other form controls that might be hidden from Jaws.

So, with all that being set, is this a local problem, just my computer, or is
this a general Jaws bug with Internet Explorer.

I should note that I am running the latest version of Jaws, the latest version
of Internet Explorer, and the latest version of Windows 10 Pro.

I can’t ask people to go to the page with the sliders, as it’s client specific,
but the one page I know where there are sliders is the Google Search settings.
There are sliders for certain settings that Jaws cannot see. In those
instances, I asked my wife to help with those areas, but I wasn’t in a
diagnosing mood at those times, and besides, Google was still new to the
accessibility game, so I just discounted them as webpage bugs, but now I’m
wondering if this was something else?

Can anyone chime in on this thread. Perhaps this might even be cause for me to
speak directly to Eric, or one of the Freedom Scientific support staff?

I think they have made things harder to accomplish by introducing
this new method of using ribbons.
I use jaws and I remember something while installing the update
it asked if you want ribbons on or off.
Wasn't sure what that means.

Hello; give these steps a try; I'm doing this from memory, hope
the steps are accurate.

1, open windows live essentials,

2, now press ctrl+#3 to get into your contacts,

3, press alt-key, you should hear,
Home tab,

4, now use the tab key until you hear something like, Export
dropdown Press the enter key.
You should land on the comma separated value, CSV file, Press
enter.
Now this should start the export process.
Hope this works.

You shouldn't have to use the Jaws cursor anywhere on the program as it's
completely accessible.

When the scan is finished, you should land on a button. Shift+tab up from
that button and you'll land on the results.

Have things changed since the last version I downloaded and installed?

[JAWS-Users] Facebook Edit Boxes in Google Chrome.

2017-03-01 Thread Judy Jones
Hello, Listers,

I have not been on a JAWS list since the freelists days.

I am using Jaws 17, and have just discovered Google Chrome, love it, but
find I am having problems in filling in edit boxes on Facebook. So far, I
am not seeing the same problems on other sites. For instance, Jaws will
make the click that opens the edit box, but when I think the letters I am
typing are showing, they are not, nothing is being typed in.

Any advice or ideas?

BTW, I tried both the regular facebook site and the mobile site.

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Reading comments in word using JAWS

2017-03-01 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Helga,

When you move to the comment you can use the application key and you will find
a menu item to edit the comment. When you press enter on the menu item you can
move through the comment and change it. Press escape when done. Using CTRL
with shift and apostrophe lists only the comments and pressing enter key on the
one you want moves focus to it. At this point, use the application key and
find the Edit Comment menu item. You can use Windows key with semi-colon but
more than just comments are listed. If you use Windows key semicolon you still
need to pick Comments from the list, follow the link for the one you want to
work with and then use the edit comment item to make changes. Either way
should work for you. When you use the application key you will also find menu
items for deleting the comment, mark comment done and sometimes Reply to
Comment.

Take care.

for my assignment and I want to write down the sentence that she wrote me
since she want me to write it, so is there a way to spell out the comment
after I do control shift apostrophe? JAWS read me but all of it, I just want to

Re: [JAWS-Users] reg cleaners

2017-03-01 Thread Mike B.
Hi Patti,

Give these steps by Subash a try:

From: Subash
Hi Patti, not sure if anyone answered already, but if not, here's how.
Once you load Ccleaner, press alt C
At this, it will put you on the Ccleaner button.
Shift tab about 5 times and you should hear windows tab.
At this, shift tab once more and you should hear internet explorer checkbox
check.
At this point arrow down and when you hear save password, press the spacebar
to check or uncheck, checking this box tells CCleaner to remove them.
For other browsers, tab once and when you hear windows tab, right arrow once
and it will take you to applications tab.
Shift tab once and you will get to the other browsers you have install and
follow the same procedure as you did for the internet explorer.
hth.
Subas
Take care.

Best thing to do in that case is attempt running the test on the computer
having problems, assuming you can get it to stay up long enough to run the
test. Wow, 8088? I remember those. Actually, my first laptop was an 8086
running I think Dos 4.10, later upgraded to Dos 5.0. Think this was back
in the late 1980's. I am pretty sure even a 15 year old computer would
trounce that 8086 any day of the week with both hands tied behind it's back.
At any rate, give the programs I mentioned a whirl and see what happens.
Oh, and the less running in the background, the better, especially for the
memory test.

If you are interested in the docking station I mentioned, here's a link for
it.

Adrien, I apologize, Good catch! I really meant from a close message after
it has been deleted and it's sitting in your deleted folder,
Highlight the sender and press the application key and down arrow to junk
subfolder press enter
Here you can block a sender.
I hope that's better.

Jorge, you know I enjoy your posts, But this time your highway is a one-way
street to nowhere, at least on my system. You start with shift-tab from an
open message. When I press shift tab from an open message, I go back to the
subject line. Also, before pressing j, I press the applications key.
But pressing j after the applications key is better than messing around
with up and down arrows, which is what I wrote before.

Jorge, this doesn't work for me in Outlook 2010 and Win7. I doubt the
Operating system makes a difference.
Here's what I do. Place focus in the tree view next to the message whose
sender I want to block, etc. Then I press the applications key and arrow up
two or three times. At "Junk," I press enter, then arrow up or down through
the options. I press enter on the desired item.

Hi Sugar,
That's because you are using the advance or intermediate jaws verbosity, if
you were using the beginner, you would hear every little thing jaws did
Also in the jaws option menu under basic, you can also quiet jaws down, on
menus and dialogs readings,
The less jaws talks makes it smoother to your ears.

Hello everyone

I will try this one more time.

When I go to delete the items in my delete box there is no sound to let me
know that it is being deleted.

How can I have Jaws announce" are you sure you want to delete these items
from the delete box?"

It says this on my lap top but not on my desk top.

It use to till I had issues with my e-Mail but now I am back, so it seems
but now without jaws announceing this item.

I do not want it to announce this upon closeing outlook, just when I am in
the in the delte box.

I hope this makes sense.

Sorry.

Re: [JAWS-Users] FW: blindspot for Spotify

2017-03-01 Thread Adrian Spratt
Richard, for the record, I wasn't cross-posting in the sense we normally mean,
that is, posting the same query to several lists at once. I was copying an item
from another source that I hoped would contribute to the thread, as I might
give a link to an article. That source happened to be a message posted on
another list three years ago. Like others here, I'm trying to get to the bottom
of why John's JAWS scripts for Spotify aren't available at the link we used to
have. The last location anyone has found goes back to 2014. So, are these
scripts still viable? Chris H had a perspective that I hoped would help.

That said, I'll assume from now on that copying a message from another list is
deemed cross-posting and I'll avoid doing it in the future.

Hey Gang,

A couple days ago when I open up my outlook, it opens up in the in box that
came with outlook. I had it opening up in my Comcast in box.

Now my question is how do I get it to open up back there? I have three in

I just don't know where in the menu to change it.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

[JAWS-Users] New KNFBReader app for Windows 10

2017-03-01 Thread Cristóbal
Don’t knowif others have come across it yet, but seems that there’s now a
KNFBReader app available for Windows 10. If you have a laptop with a webcam
or a stand-alone webcam or if you have a scanner it’s supposed to work as an
oCR solution.

Of course my luck, I just got around to upgrading to Kurzweil1000 14 last
month.

Anyway, for those who have downloaded it, can they comment on accuracy or if
scans are comparable to K1000?

Also, does this app work with Jaws unlike K1000 where you have to switch
between programs and keyboard commands?

If it takes away the step of switching between programs and keyboard
commands, I may still be interested.

It’s on sale for $20.00 for the next couple of days. Whereas the regular
price seems to be $100.00 like the iOS app

[JAWS-Users] An easier approach. Reading comments in word using JAWS

2017-03-01 Thread Tim Ford
Hello Helga,

There is a very handy JAWS method to more easily accomplish the task of reading
comments imbedded in a Word document.

When in the document, press/hold the Windows key, and press the ; key. That
brings up a nice and clean JAWS box in which you can arrow to and press enter
on any of the four options, comments, footnotes, endnotes, or revisions.
Pressing enter on comments will give you what you want, a nice clean box in
which the author of the note is shown, and the full text of the comment is
displayed, and you can easily read the text with the usual arrow reading
commands. (You can copy and paste any of that material, which is what I would
do to put together a document back to the commenter, as opposed to trying to
enter your own comments directly into the base Word document.)

For each comment, there is a link you can press, and that takes you to that
part of the document.

The above works the same for the four categories, comments, footnotes,
endnotes, revisions.

The above works for me, and I cannot imagine an easier system for use with
JAWS. Good luck.

Tim Ford

[JAWS-Users] Jaws announcening when deleteing items

2017-03-01 Thread Sugar lopez
Hello everyone

I will try this one more time.

When I go to delete the items in my delete box there is no sound to let me
know that it is being deleted.

How can I have Jaws announce" are you sure you want to delete these items
from the delete box?"

It says this on my lap top but not on my desk top.

It use to till I had issues with my e-Mail but now I am back, so it seems
but now without jaws announceing this item.

I do not want it to announce this upon closeing outlook, just when I am in
the in the delte box.

I hope this makes sense.

Sorry.

Sugar

Re: [JAWS-Users] how do I set my junk mail settings in outlook 2010?

2017-03-01 Thread Adrian Spratt
Jorge, you know I enjoy your posts, But this time your highway is a one-way
street to nowhere, at least on my system. You start with shift-tab from an open
message. When I press shift tab from an open message, I go back to the subject
line. Also, before pressing j, I press the applications key.
But pressing j after the applications key is better than messing around with
up and down arrows, which is what I wrote before.

I notice that John's name doesn't appear to be mentioned anywhere. Also, the
link Mike last sent is to a n item dated 2014, which makes me wonder if the
scripts have kept up with changes in Spotify. I'm going to forward a message
that Chris H posted on a related list in 2014.

Hi Jerry,

Once you press, Alt + R, to start a scan, after it's finished if youpress,
Shift + Tab, 2 times you should be in a list of items that have been
removed, or are waiting to be selected to be removed. If you run the
Analyze option press, Control + A, to slect all, then Alt + R, to run
CCleaner & remove.
Take care.

Just tab around. Eventually you'll arrive at the list of data components that
you first encountered when running the scan. This time, the list tells you
which data were removed and how many files were deleted.

There are several ways to start Narrator depending on which version of
Windows is being used, however one way is common in Windows 2000 thru at
least Windows 7, and probably 8 & 10.
Open the run dialogue and type:
narrator
and then press enter.

Windows XP:
Press Windows key + U, to open the utility Manager, then Alt + N to start
Narrator.
Note: if Narrator is set to start with the Utility Manager, then the second
keystroke is not needed.

Windows Vista, 7 & possibly 8:
Press Windows key + U, to open the Ease of Access Center, and then Alt + N
to start Narrator.

Windows 10:
Press Windows key + Enter to start Narrator.

HTH,

Tomorrow's another day, another way!
and if tomorrow never comes, problem solved!

Note:
It is my understanding that the keystroke for starting Narrator is supposed
to change in a later update to Windows 10.

Re: [JAWS-Users] how do you add new contacts in outlook 2010?

2017-03-01 Thread Cristóbal
Also, from an open message of a person/email you wish to add, get to the
from field, then use the context menu to go to the add to outlook contacts
option and once you click on it, you'll be taken to the prompts to enter all
relevant information.

Jim:

I'm now using Outlook 2016, but I think the process for adding contacts was
the same for Outlook 2010.

Basically, I get into my address book via control shift B. and then use my
Alt key to get into the menus. Once in the menus, I up arrow several times
until I get to "add new entry".

I hit enter on that, and tab to add to contacts, and then to ok.

Then, I'm put into a group of tabs for the various entry fields, which I
then fill out as needed.

Then, at the very end of the tabs, I am put into a document field, which
contains the new contact information. I then hit escape, and I am asked if
I want to save my document, which actually is my new contact entry. I arrow
to "yes", and am done.

I realize that this method is rather complicated, and much more difficult
than used to be the case with Outlook Express, but it seems to have worked
for me, and I have over 700 contacts in my address book.

Hey Gang,

A couple days ago when I open up my outlook, it opens up in the in box that
came with outlook. I had it opening up in my Comcast in box.

Now my question is how do I get it to open up back there? I have three in
boxes, my in box, Comcast, and my Gmail.

I just don't know where in the menu to change it.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Patti

Hi, Jean.

Someone on the PC Audio list you just joined (yes, Big Brother is watching!!)
recently posted that Spotify works well as an iPhone app but not on a PC. There
was no follow-up to that thread. But maybe someone here has had a better
experience. I was interested because I'd like to replace Pandora, which I've
found difficult to use since Hope, the application designed to make it
accessible, ceased to be supported.

Hello everyone,

We now have Spotify Premium Family Sharing in our house. I have downloaded the
Windows Desktop Spotify app. It’s usable, but not all that intuative at first
glance. I have no idea which version this is. Are there scripts or tips and
tricks for using this with Jaws? I am running Jaws 18, but haven’t applied the
most recent update.

Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder

2017-03-01 Thread Moderator
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The
purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader
Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better
with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we
all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain
task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.

Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal
place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no
matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the
confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the
list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that
help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last
than first. So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then
let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma.
Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if
there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with
JAWS is perfectly fine.

The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of
Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then take
it up with Freedom Scientific directly.

Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible.

Signatures and tag lines should not be more than a couple of sentences,
three or four at the most. If you wish to include a tag line, don't make
another message of it. Placing anything else in there simply increases the
bandwidth required to handle the posted message and make it more work for a
person who wishes to follow the given thread back to review previous
messages, as they have to plow down past an overly long signature. Also
please place your message above your signature line so as not to force
people to read it before they get to your message.

Also any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not
be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.

Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done
for your protection. The message list might state that there is an
attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them.

When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply
delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are
over 650 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on
here.

Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions
that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not
receive an answer for a number of reasons.

Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list.

Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may receive an email from the server asking you to reactivate your account.
Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the
directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a
number of such messages then the server will remove your email address
automatically.

The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech
swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or
services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given
subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the
subject line does not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and
members should only post in the following manner:

Using the TO: field with only one list address. The reason for this is that
in cases where people setup their message rules to go by the to: field often
times such rules get fouled up and in effect do not work properly. Also
cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at the same time but the
fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and every list. This
practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with
unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators.

The SUBJECT: field should be short and to the point without including any
member names.

Please do not reply to a posted question simply to say you don't know
