Re: [JAWS-Users] [jaws] free email services

2018-01-12 Thread Mike B.
Howdy Sharp Cheddar,

I believe it's still running, but I believe you have to link it through
Outlook.com or some crap like that for it to work. It seems like many
people were having problems because of some changes that were made with Hot
Mail several months ago. I know there are folks on the list that can
possibly explain the crap they had to go through to get their Hot Mail
accounts working again, providing they are still using Hot Mail, or I
totally misunderstood the whole commotion.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Deleting folders from Dropbox Account

2018-01-12 Thread Mike B.
Hi Sherri,

Go into the default / main Dropbox folder where all your shared folders are
located on your computer, & delete the folders you want to remove from
there. The deleted folders from your computer will also be removed from the
Dropbox website if I remember correctly.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Go into quick settings with JAWS key+v, then arrow down to "Select and copy
from full screen." Then press spacebar to switch to " from virtual cursor."
Tab to okay.
The default is to display a webpage more or less as it appears on the
screen. The "virtual cursor" gives JAWS greater precision so that when you
select text, it selects the text you intend.

Thanks for this explanation. I don't remember when I used it last, but I
just opened calculator and can confirm that results are not being spoken by
JAWS 18 in my Windows 10 1709, either. Very annoying.
This doesn't appear to be a problem for NVDA, though.

Hi,
Calculator bug: assuming that you're running latest version of Calculator
app and this didn't occur before, chances are that something other than JAWS
is to blame. I have an idea as to what's going on behind the scenes, but
until I get a confirmation from others, I'll leave all possibilities open.
And if my guess is correct, then another call to VFO might be in order
(rather, another reminder).
Technical: there is a UI Automation event Calculator used to fire (note the
words "used to") until recently. This has changed in recent releases:
instead of an event JAWS used to rely on, Calculator fires a different UIA
event to convey results and other announcements to you. In this case, I
recommend filing a feedback about Calculator with Microsoft so other screen
reader users can upvote.
Cheers,

I realized after I sent the below message that the typing echo in the
calculator should, emphasis, normally be set to none, as it indeed was. But
that assumes that JAWS is always speaking the display as it updates, which
mine now is not. So until JAWS finds its voice, smile, I'll leave the
typing echo as it is now so that I can hear what I type.

Rebecca

I'm using Windows 10, the 1709 Fall Creator's update, with version 2018 of
JAWS. The Windows 10 calculator was not speaking at all. The only way to
confirm what I'd typed was to turn the numlock off and read the current
line, or to tab and then shift tab back and JAWS would read the display.
Both doable, but annoying.

I opened Quick Settings and arrowed through the list, just to see if there
might be something I could change. There was. Smile. I've never touched
this but somehow, the typing echo was set to none. It's on character
everywhere else. Now it's set to character in the calculator as well and
what I type is spoken. Alas, JAWS still does not speak the result when I
press the enter key, so that I still have to tab and shift tab back to have
the amount read, or I have to turn the numlock off and read the current
line. But the aggravation level has been considerably reduced. Smile.

The second problem was brought up by someone on the list, Adrian I think.
If I alt-tab away from a page and then come back, JAWS will not always keep
my place on the page. It would be lovely if it could remember
automatically, but if I remember to insert a temporary place marker,
control-windows key-k before I alt-tab away, all I have to do is press k
when I come back and JAWS will return to where I'd been reading.

I think the documentation says that the temporary place marker will stay
until the page changes, so I assume that if the page updates while I'm away
from it, the place marker will be lost. Usually though, I'm only pasting
material into Word. In this case I have to remember to insert that place
marker before I leave. The temporary place marker I set at the beginning of
the copy process does not work as a placeholder after the material has been
copied.

HTH.

press the enter key, so that I still have to tab and shift tab back to have
the amount read, or I have to turn the numlock off and read the current

The temporary place marker I set at the beginning of
the copy process does not work as a placeholder after the material has been
copied.

HTH.

[JAWS-Users] Two Fixes For Problems

2018-01-12 Thread Rebecca Lineberger

Smile.

[JAWS-Users] Sayall in Excel

2018-01-12 Thread jyandt.martin
Morning all.
I was working on an Excel 13 worksheet, and I found I could not use the say all
command in a spreadsheet. Is this something with excel, or is it a jaws
function that is not accessible with spreadsheets? I am using Windows 10, Jaws
2018 and Excel 13 on a Dell laptop. Thanks.

It's been awhile since I used that, but if you haven't already you need to
use the "light" version of the interface. The last I knew the full feature

Hi All,

I learned about this update from another list, & it's all explained

below.

Reading issues have been reported when using JAWS 2018.1712.10 (released

in

December 2017) with Windows 10 Universal apps. Here are some examples:

list of 2 items
1. In Windows Mail, JAWS 2018 will not speak the body of an email while
navigating by character or word. And JAWS may read a previously opened
email instead of the current one.
2. In Sticky Notes, JAWS 2018 repeats the character in focus and will not
speak the text while navigating by character or word.
list end

Solution

These problems have been fixed and will be included in the next JAWS 2018
update. But if you need these fixes before the public release, you have

2

options for receiving a pre-release update as follows:

list of 2 items
A. Download the full version update from the appropriate link below. It

is

OK to install over the existing version, or it can be done as a new

install

by itself.
