[JAWS-Users] open book
Hi, to those of you writing to explain why things like open book cost so much, my comment about why do they cost so much was simply an exclamation of frustration. Many of you have a lot more things like this than I do, but I just can't afford them and am not going into debt over them. I do understand that technology is always changing and these products must change along with everything in order to keep working, but it is just frustrating when other programs in the wide market go down in price after initial release and ours stay just as expensive. But that, as they say, is life, and they certainly are a blessing and if I never have anything other than jaws and my iPhone, I can still do things I never imagined I could. Re: [JAWS-Users] open book
Judy, There are a number of things that drive the cost of any product. There are up-front costs that go into research and development before a product is ready to be sold to the customer. Then there are production, advertising and distribution costs which continue for the life of the product. The manufacturer adds up all of these costs and then divides it up by the potential number of customers. When you look at the customer base for a product like Microsoft Office verses JAWS, there are fewer potential JAWS users than Office users. The reason that this adaptive software is so expensive is because the manufacturers of these things know that it is not something everyone on the block needs. Just my perspective. Hi I believe that the Settings Center cannot be opened while in OpenBook because the default OpenBook that comes from Freedom Scientific already has the setting for sleep and unload. You need to be able to get into the Settings Center with Openbook running in order to put Jaws asleep while running this program. Well, at least this is the only way I know how to put Jaws to sleep when using a particular program. I tried this running Jaws 13, Openbook 7.02, XP Pro. Perhaps someone will have another way to do it. As Alan suggested, you might want to give FS tech support a call back to let them fix it! Sorry I couldn't have been of more help. Take care. I called Freedom Scientific because my open book wasn't self voicing and a ibm file had to be deleted and replaced. Now my open book is speaking and jaws is speaking also. How do I keep Jaws from speaking so that only the Open Book self voicing speaks? Thank you. I would appreciate steps since putting Jaws to sleep is in a different location in Jaws 13 I think. memphis.magno...@comcast.net Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly And leave the rest to God!
