[JAWS-Users] JAWS Repair

2018-07-11 Thread jyandt.martin
Morning all.

I know that this subject has been posted here previously, but please forgive my
memory lapses. Using JAWS 2018 and Windows 10 on a Dell laptop, can anyone
supply me with the instructions for doing a JAWS repair? Also, using Word 13,
is there a way to create an editable form? Thanks in advance.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS repair

2018-05-18 Thread Adrian Spratt
I figured out the answer. Because I have a hard time computing numbers when
spoken by JAWS, I'd changed the filename to include the month and year. I
didn't change the file extension, but I'd been led to believe that changing a
filename while keeping the extension intact made no difference. Well, it does.
I re-downloaded the file from the VFO website and went through the same
VFO-recommended procedure without a hitch.

Thanks to Steve and Dan for your thoughts. I'll try Dan's method the next time.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS repair

Hi. Last year VFO gave me a new set of instructions for doing a JAWS repair.
They worked well, and I posted a version to the list. today they aren't
working. When I put the terms into the run dialog and press enter, I get the MS
message that Windows doesn't know which program to use. Can anyone suggest what
I'm doing wrong? Here are the instructions:

First, make sure you have the .exe file on your system for the JAWS build
you're running. You can download it from the FS/VFO website.

Unlike before, it doesn't seem to matter where you keep it on your system.

Close all running apps.

Highlight the JAWS .exe file.

Press shift-F10.

Arrow up to "Copy as path." Press enter.

Open the run dialog with Windows key-r.

Press control-v, then spacebar, then / (the forward slash key), then the word
"type", spacebar, and then the word "repair."

Let me try that command line a different way. After pressing control-v followed
by the spacebar, continue with /type repair

Then press enter.

Actually if you have the executable, you can just enter on it and you'll be
asked if you want to repair.

What you're doing wrong, I think, is not opening the rename dialog, and
instead you are actually trying to run the executable file.

If you use the method you indicated, make sure the path that you paste in is
surrounded by quotes.

I don't use quite the same method.

What I do is find the executable for the latest version, (which I know the
path to), and, with it highlighted, I open the rename feature and paste the
highlighted file to the clipboard.

Then, I open the Run command, type the path with a backslash and then paste
in that name. Then, I go to the end of that file name and press the
following keys forward-slash type space repair

Then, press enter. UAC will come up, so just press alt-Y to start the
repair.

2018-05-12 Thread Adrian Spratt
Sadam,

Two or three years ago, I ran into a similar problem trying to perform a JAWS
repair. The error message was about some other part of the process, but it had
the same effect. FS/VFO was also unable to fix it. Yet it went away in time.

Not much help, I know, but I mention it for what it's worth.

I think level 2 VFO support will need to take a look.

It's a very strange issue.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws repair?

2013-08-07 Thread Steve

Kliphton,

Blank
Here is the info. Just change the version or highlight your current version
using browse. I included two different methods.

The steps below are the best, most in depth, and most thorough way of
repairing Jaws according to Freedom Scientific Tech Support.

1. Place a copy of the Jaws executible version that you want to repair into
the main root of the C drive. For example; If you are running Jaws14
most recent on a 32-bit system, you would paste a copy of
J14.0.4004-32bit.exe into the main
root of the C drive. To open the main root of the C drive, go to the
desktop, press enter on My Computer, press enter on Local disk C, and

now you have the main root of the C drive open.

2. With the Jaws .exe pasted into the C drive, highlight the Jaws
.exe, and press F2 as if you were going to edit this line of text. now press
control + C to copy this Jaws executible, press escape to close the edit
field, and press Alt + F4 to close the C drive.

What you want to do is place just the title of the Jaws version into the
Windows Run Dialogue box and not the file. If you were to place the Jaws
executible into the Run box without copying as you did as per the
instructions above you would have pasted the whole file into the Run Box
instead of just the title.

3. Now that you have just the title copied to the clipboard, press Windows
key + R to open the Run Dialogue Box. Type, remember to type a capitalC ,
C:\ without the quotes or spaces and press control + V to paste the Jaws
title, press your end key to
take the cursor to the end of the title and type in the following without
the quotation marks /type
repair without the quotes but, with the spaces . Below is what your line of
text should look / read like.

C:\J14.0.4004-32bit.exe /type repair

Read character by character to make sure you have put in the proper spaces,
Forward back slashes and text. press the home key to go to the front of
the title and press enter to start the repair.

A 2nd way to do the same thing.

1. Use Windows key with R to bring up the run dialog box.
2. Use tab key to the browse button and press spacebar.
3. Browse to the downloaded JAWS setup file and press enter key.
4. Use tab key to move to where JAWS says open colon edit combo, press
the end key and then press spacebar.

5. Type in /Type repair, (that is first type a slash followed immediately by
the word type then a space and then the word repair.

6. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter key.

7. Follow the prompts.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

No, that will actually run the Jaws 12 installation.

Courtesy of Brian Lee, the correct procedure is:

1. Use Windows key with R to bring up the run dialog box.

2. Use tab key to the browse button and press spacebar.

3. Browse to the downloaded JAWS setup file and press enter key.

4. Use tab key to move to where JAWS says open colon edit combo, press

You implement the repair option by putting a slash repair after the full
path of the filename. They took the actual repair command out of the
 tools
option back in Jaws 7 or so.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Repair

2010-08-27 Thread Donnie Parrett
No. It's not the speech rate. In JAWS 11, it just takes JAWS forever to start
talking. No matter
where I'm at or what I'm doing, I am getting the same results, and it seems to
be getting worse.

Have a great day, unless you have made other plans.

could try and run windows own narrator while you are repairing jaws. Once

What I mean is Close Jaws 11 and open Jaws 10 for example, then run the

it this morning with Jaws 10 running but, not having knowledge of other

Hi Kimsan,

Do you have another version of Jaws that you can run instead of Jaws 11?
What I mean is Close Jaws 11 and open Jaws 10 for example, then run the
Jaws11 repair. I know that a Jaws11 repair can be done in XP because I did
it this morning with Jaws 10 running but, not having knowledge of other
operating systems I can't comment. Also, running a repair or another
install on the same machine will not count as another installation. Take
care.

Hi Kimsan,

I owe you a huge apology. Last night when we were discussing repairing
Jaws11, I should have been suggesting that you unload Jaws11 instead of
saying uninstall Jaws11! I totally brain faarted on the terminology and
again, I am very sorry. I really don't know if using the correct
terminology would have made a difference being that same problem existed
with Jaws10 as far as the system tray issue. I am very glad that you were
able to get it straightened out. Also, I will send you those notes on
making message rules. Take care.

[JAWS-Users] jaws repair

2010-01-02 Thread Kimsan Song
Hi,

Since nobody can't answer my question that I posted twice I was wondering
how do I perform a jaws repair with jaws 11?

Just to review, I previously asked how come after logging into windows and
accessing the system tray jaws says unselected and nothing functions
correctly.

The only way I can get it to work is by turning off jaws and
then turning it back on.

Hi Kimsan,

Click on the link below to download the Jaws version you want.

ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J11.0.756-64bit.exe

Don't run this yet but, save the download somewhere on your harddrive and
once you have it saved, run the program from there. Once you start the
process you will be given the choices of modify, repair, or remove. Tab to
repair and press enter. If another repair option pops up, press enter
on that option also, then just follow the prompts to the finish. Hope this
helps. Take care.

What I mean is Close Jaws 11 and open Jaws 10 for example, then run the

it this morning with Jaws 10 running but, not having knowledge of other

Take
care.

Hi Kimsan,

Click on the link below to download the Jaws version you want.

ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J11.0.756-64b
it.exe

Don't run this yet but, save the download somewhere on your harddrive and
once you have it saved, run the program from there. Once you start the
process you will be given the choices of modify, repair, or remove. Tab to
repair and press enter. If another repair option pops up, press enter

Hi Kimsan,

Yes, uninstall Jaws11 and run Jaws10. If you have restarted your computer,
the computer probably restarted running Jaws11. Once you are sure that
Jaws10 is running, then try doing the repair on Jaws11.

operating systems I can't comment. Also, running a repair or another
install on the same machine will not count as another installation. Take
care.

That did not work. I downloaded and saved it. When clicking on run it said
it could not continue the process because there is another version running
and could not continue until I removed the current version of jaws that I
have, which is the same you sent me. There was no options for repair or

If another repair option pops up, press enter
on that option also, then just follow the prompts to the finish. Hope this
helps. Take care.

Kimsan, you don't want to reinstall Jaws11, you want to run the Jaws11 file
you downloaded and saved to get the repair option. Do this while running
Jaws10. I sent you an Email off list. Look in your InBox for the message.
