Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail Ap Question
Honestly between the two, I would use outlook. The reasons why is with outlook, you are able to quickly navigate to the folders you create, also easily create folders, message rules do not work in the mail app where as it does in outlook. The app if you do not like orgonomics then it's not for you, if you just do the basic send and receive, it'll be fine. As of right now, it's not the greatest but useable and duable, and there might be improvements down the road. There are pros and cons with each, but when it comes down to it, I rather use outlook primarily. The mail app is native to windows 10, so type mail in the windows search, and you will see the mail app. Press enter to launch it and follow the prompts to set up your account. [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail in Windows 10
I have been told by several people that Windows Mail does not work with jaws in Windows 10, but have found a few that says it does. When I googled something like using windows mail in windows 10 with a screen reader, I found directions for using it with Narrator. I would think that if it works with Narrator, it would work with Jaws. Is anybody using it successfully? Thanks in advance for any information. Hi, I use same, but have never had to adjust settings. But navagation is, moving right across as in swiping on iPhone. that is while within the window's mail client. For window's contacts via your name if you have it there, it's the typical list view. If your not in that view, press alt V, choose one of the items in list, such as list. - Original Message - From: DJ Reese To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Monday, April 20, 2015 6:22 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Windows mail contacts Hi list: What view settings do I have to set to get the windows mail contacts to read correctly? Re: [JAWS-Users] windows mail files
I took them down a while back because they caused trouble with systems that didn't already have service pack 1 installed figuring if that issue popped up there would be a good chance that other issues could very easily arise, and I didn't want to be the reason for such problems. I personally repaired such a system last year and it was not an experience I care to repeat. I probably still have the files around here if you really want them, use them at your own risk as the saying goes. [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail, Windows Live mail, Win7, Vista, and utlook Express.
Oh yes, we were also discussing the Outlook Express tweak and we were indeed in sync. One of the original question in that many-faceted thread was to do with whether Outlook Express could be got to work on Windows7. Hi Sugar, Though not commonly known, there is a version of Outlook Express included with Windows 7, just hidden from users so they can purchase Office products for Outlook, or force people to use Windows Live Mail. I have the tweaks, files and instructions uploaded to send space, but should you take that plunge into Windows 7, you don't have to worry about upgrading to another mail client, as the instructions are quite simple and easy to go through. I should also note that the main difference between Outlook Express and Windows Mail is the inclusion of a Junk Mail folder, the ability to deal with Spam messages more easily with the applications key, and a couple of annoying bugs, though I'm not sure if this is a Windows issue, or a Jaws issue. The first bug is that the auto complete feature of Windows Mail is hit or miss. Oh, don't get me wrong, the addresses do auto complete, but Jaws isn't reporting the completed address, so you're left wondering if it's going to the proper address. The second bug is the fact that when using your arrow keys to go through the folder list on the left-hand side of the screen, should you come across a folder containing saved messages in it, Jaws automatically moves focus to the message list from the folder list. It doesn't matter whether the messages are unread or not, and you're never sure how many messages you have that are unread in that folder or what, as you never get a chance to listen to Jaws read out the entire folder name and unread messages as it did in Outlook Express. This is especially the case if you have message rules implemented, and you have your messages sorted by subject words and if the messages go into their own folders. Other than that, Windows Mail is exactly like Outlook Express, with a couple of tweaks here and there. I also don't know if Freedom Scientific has stopped supporting Windows mail, but Eric can speak to that should he decide it's warranted. Hope this helps. Hi Jerry, Try the following: 1. While in your In-box press Alt + V, for the view menu. 2. Arrow down to, Sort By, press enter to open. 3. You want to have 2 things checked in here, Received Descending. Arrow down to, Received, press enter to check it if it's unchecked. When you press enter on any option in here it will take you out of the sub-menu so, go back into the Sort By submenu press enter on, Descending. With these 2 items checked you should have your email sorted the way you want them. Hope this helped. Take care. [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail question
I recently did the windows mail tweak so that it would work on a Windows 7 machine. When I arrow up and down to each folder, it automatically goes into the folder and does not tell me how many messages are unread. I'm a little confused as to whether or not this is normal for Windows Mail or is there a setting that will allow me to simply arrow down the folders or press the first letter of a folder without actually entering the folder. I thought it may also have to do with my JAWS version. I am using JAWS 13. Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail question
Hi Tara, Yes, you can navigate Windows Mail folders with first letter navigation. Yes, it is normal to enter folders when navigating by arrowing or first letter navigation but, it only does this if there are emails in that particular folder. If you don't want to view email in a particular folder tab 1 time to get into list view navigate to a different folder. Take care. Because the focus is a button, you can't just press Enter to press the default OK button. Instead, either Tab all the way to the OK button and press it, or just Tab to a control which isn't a button or a link, and then press Enter. Sending messages using your contact groups In a similar manner to using contacts, you can send messages using your contact groups either in a New message window, or from your Contacts folder. In a new message window, you can type in the names of contact groups, just as you would the names of contacts. When the message is sent, the name of the group is replaced by all the addresses of the contacts. Alternatively, in your Contacts folder: 1.Select a Contact group. (In fact you can select more than one contact group, and contacts as well.) 2.Open the context menu, then open the Action sub-menu (access key A), and then press Enter to choose the first menu item which is Send E-mail. 3.A New Message window opens. All the contacts in the contacts group are already entered in the To edit box, and the focus is at the end of the Edit box. Editing Contact Groups To edit a Contact Group in your Contacts folder, select it and press Enter. A Properties dialog for the Contact Group opens, and you can then change and add information in this dialog. The Contact group properties dialog is used both for creating and editing contact groups. The dialog has two pages: Contact Group and Contact Group details. The latter contains controls for optional data that you might want to give about the group. The controls on the Contact Group page are: .A Group Name edit box. .An Add to Contact Group button for adding existing contacts or groups to this group. This was described above in the Creating a new contact group section. .A Create New Contact button for creating a new contact and adding it to the group. .A List of group members list view. .A Remove Selected Contacts button. However to remove one or more contacts, it's easier just to select them in the List of group members, and then press Delete. .Contact Name and E-Mail edit boxes, and a Create for group only button, for adding a contact to the group but not to your Contacts. Hope this helped. Take care. Mike - Original Message - From: Becky Buckner To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Saturday, June 02, 2012 2:30 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] windows mail Hi all. To do this, press Shift + Tab twice to move to the Folder view, but do not select any files. Open the context menu, then open the View sub-menu, and choose List. 7.In the Folder view, select one or more Contacts or Contact Groups, and then press Enter to press the default Add button. 8.You're returned to the Contact Group Properties dialog, where the focus is the Add to Contact Group button. [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail
To All Listers: I am using Windows Mail, Windows Vista (32 bit system) and JAWS version 11. I was on my Inbox and I was wanting to delete a single message from it. When I pressed the Delete key, I got a message asking me if I wanted to delete the messages (plural) from the list. I have never had this question appear before and I am wondering what is going on. Any information will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks. Jerry Length of days with an evil heart only means length of misery. [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail
Hi Jerry, When I send an email to several people using Windows Mail, I use almost the same steps as I do using Outlook Express. I always use the BCC field when I send emails to several people. The revised steps for Windows Mail are below. You don't have to have the BCC field highlighted to do this but, highlighting the BCC field is probably a good idea until you get used to the way it works. 1. After pressing control + F, to forward, control +N, for a new message, or control + R, to reply, tab down to the BCC field to get ready to enter your recipients. 2. Press Alt + T, for tools, press the letter R, for select recipients, tab 2 times to Address List, list view. You should be at the top of your contacts list. 3. You can arrow down through the list or go by first letter navigation. However you navigate the contacts list, whenever you have a name highlighted that you want enter into the Bcc field, press, Alt + B, on each name you want to send this message to. Invoking the Alt + B keystroke is the keystroke for adding names to the BCC field. Alternatively, invoking the, Alt +T keystroke will add names to the, To: field, invoking the, Alt + C keystroke will add names to the, CC: field. 4. After you have added all the names you are sending this message to, tab 8 times to the, List Bcc, List view, arrow down this list to make sure that you have included everyone you want to add. If all the people you want are there, tab 1 more time to, Okay, press the spacebar. 5. Now, tab to the subject field, do whatever you have to do here, tab to the edit field, type in your message, send as normal. Hope this helps doesn't scare you away from using the Bcc Field! It gets really easy after you do it a few times get used to the way it works. Take care. Hello Mike; If your just wanting to hear who the message is from, No subject, when it was received, And not need to know if there's attachment, Do the following; 1, Open windows mail. 2, alt+v=view. 3, down arrow and enter on, columns. 4, now, you need, to arrow for example, subject, And then tab and enter on hide, Now, the subject column is hidden. You perform the same tasks with, Received, Attachment, So, the only one showing is, From. Then tab to close or the okay button which ever it is. Haven't used windows mail in some time. Let me know if this is successful. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike Barbara Sent: Saturday, November 12, 2011 9:12 PM To: Jaws-Users List Subject: [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail Too Much Info Hi All, I'm running Windows Mail, Windows7 Home Premium, Jaws 13. Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail Too Much Info
HI David, Maybe what I'm asking cannot be done but, as far as the columns go, I have From, Subject, Received, Attachments checked in that order. Who the email is from, I want to hear but, just the name of the sender not their email address! Currently, when I open an email, I hear the senders name, their email address, the subject line. What I would like to hear, is just their name the subject line. I know a couple of people who, when they open their emails, they are read the way I would like mine to read but, we cannot find where this particular setting is! I cannot tell you all the different things we've tried but obviously, we have not found it yet! LOL LOL I know I'm being picky but, this has become a personal challenge, just because I know the setting is there, somewhere! Thank you very much for your reply all of your help. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail Too Much Info
Hi, What you are looking for is under view. I don't have virtual ribbon turned on, so the way I get there is, alt, arrow over to view and arrow down once. Then, use the jaws cursor to get to view that is just before arrange. There are several places that will say view. The one before arrange is what you need. Arrow down from there to see the choices. I have it set to from, subject, and date. Good luck. Hi Lois, Thank you very much for your input. It sounds like you are directing me to the Columns option but, the problem is not in there. This is more of how to choose what I want Jaws to read, or not read, in the, From: field, when I open an email. Thanks again, take care.
