[kwin] [Bug 408610] KWin shortcut "Show Desktop Grid" does not work
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=408610 --- Comment #1 from Andrei Rybak --- Fixed it on my machine by: 1. Go to System Settings → Display and Monitor → Compositor 2. Get rid of a warning about OpenGL detection 3. Turn "Tearing prevention" from Automatic to Full screen repains 4. Click Apply 5. Turn "Tearing prevention" back to Automatic 6. Click Apply Figured it out using experience from https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406703 I do not know why or how operability of shortcuts depends on this. Maybe the compositor was not started despite "Enable compositor on startup" being checked (as per https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406703)? >From my (stupid user) point of view, this situation definitely seems like a bug: I turn a shortcut on, but the system doesn't even warn me that for the shortcut to work I need some other magic turned on elsewhere. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 406703] VSync setting does not work after reboot
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406703 Andrei Rybak changed: What|Removed |Added Status|NEEDSINFO |REPORTED Resolution|WAITINGFORINFO |--- --- Comment #7 from Andrei Rybak --- > If you enable compositing as well set tearing prevention back to "Automatic", > does screen tearing occur? With the "Automatic" settings, the screen tearing does not occur. Thank you for fixing my setup — turns out I didn't actually need "Full screen repaints". Off-topic: It would seem that the *UX* for checkbox "Enable compositor on startup" could be improved. It was not clear at all to me, that all the settings below this checkbox depend on it being turned on. I would have expected for this checkbox to get selected automatically when you change anything else on that screen. Especially since "compositor" actually turns itself on automatically when you touch these settings (as logs in the comment above have shown). Another possible approach would be to show a big warning at the bottom of the dialog (near "Apply" button): > The settings will be reset on restart, if you don't check the checkbox > "Enable compositor on startup". -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[systemsettings] [Bug 422068] New: Some "Activity switching" shortcuts don't work
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422068 Bug ID: 422068 Summary: Some "Activity switching" shortcuts don't work Product: systemsettings Version: 5.18.4 Platform: Kubuntu Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: kcm_keys Assignee: k...@michael-jansen.biz Reporter: rybak@gmail.com CC: plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I've upgraded from 5.16 to 5.18 recently, and shortcut Meta for Kickoff did not work from the get go. I've been struggling to make Meta work for Kickoff (the whole Alt+F1 workaround thing) after upgrading from 5.16 to 5.18. Now Meta for Kickoff works. But shortcuts Meta+[number] and Meta+[letter] stopped working. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open "System Settings > Workspace > Shortcuts > Global Shortcuts > Other Shortcuts > Activity switching" 2. Make sure "Activate Task Manager entry" one through ten have shortcuts Meta+1 through Meta+0 respectively. 3. Make sure shortcut "Activities..." is set to Meta+Q (also tried Meta+A and Meta+Shift+A) 4. Press shortcuts from steps 2 and 3 right there in the "System Settings" dialog window. 5. Change "Activate Task Manager entry" to something without Meta key, like Ctrl+Shift+2 OBSERVED RESULT - In Step 4 digits and letters are typed in the "Search..." field of the System Settings dialog in the top left. - In Step 5 nothing happened. Please note, that the settings dialog understood and recorded the shortcuts while focus was in the button "Input..." perfectly fine. EXPECTED RESULT Action corresponding to the shortcuts are launched. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Kubuntu 20.04 KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0 Qt Version: 5.12.8 Kernel Version: 5.3.0-51-generic OS Type: 64-bit Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz Memory: 7.7 GiB of RAM ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - Following Meta shortcuts work: - Meta+L to lock the session - Meta+F7 to toggle touchpad - Meta+D to show desktop - Meta+. for Emoji selector - Meta+E for Dolphin - Shortcuts for "Walking through activities", which is also in the "Activity switching" group works. - I probably did mess something up while trying to get Kickoff shortcut working. I just don't remember what I did exactly. I'll be happy to provide any configuration file. - I've also tried setting the shortcuts in "Global Alternate" column, which also did not work. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441021 Andrei Rybak changed: What|Removed |Added Status|NEEDSINFO |REPORTED Resolution|WAITINGFORINFO |--- --- Comment #3 from Andrei Rybak --- @Nate, both the pinned task manager icon and a _differently created_ desktop icon work. By "differently created" I mean created via "Right click in Application Launcher > + Add to Desktop". I didn't realize that the contents of .desktop file would matter that much. However, it apparently matters for this use case. The bug as described above only reproduces with a .desktop file I've created myself in a text editor. The whole contents of the file are: #!/usr/bin/env xdg-open [Desktop Entry] Exec=/snap/bin/chromium Terminal=false Type=Application Icon=/snap/chromium/current/chromium.png It is a bare minimum of what's needed for an otherwise working .desktop icon. The icon created via Application Launcher is actually a symlink to /var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/chromium_chromium.desktop, which has 296 lines. I'm trying to figure out which of these are needed for the icon to behave differently on drag-n-drop of URLs (drag-n-drop of files works fine with the bare minimum .desktop file). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Unfortunately, it failed to install debug symbols for two libraries, namely libQt5Core.so.5 and libQt5XcbQpa.so.5. PREREQUISITE Debug symbols are not installed. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Get a crash. 2. Open "The KDE Crash Handler" from the popup notification (I don't remember the wording on the button). 3. On the tab "Developer Information", observe message "The generated crash information is not useful" 4. Click "Install Debug Symbols" 5. In "Debug Symbols Installer", click "Install all" 6. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442912 --- Comment #8 from Andrei Rybak --- I have managed to find a BAD workaround: 1. Backup files '~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc' and '~/.config/kscreenlockerrc (1)'. 2. Delete the originals of these files. 3. Restart plasmashell via "killall plasmashell; kstart5 plasmashell" 4. Open "System Settings" 5. Click "Change Wallpaper..." and it works. But this is obviously suboptimal -- I lost all my Plasma settings in the process. I could not figure out which parts of the file 'plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc' are responsible for this. Partial removal of lines with "wallpaper" and "potd" in them doesn't help. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
