but of course the intel-gpu-tool for trusty hasn't been updated since
2014 so likely it doesn't support i7-7700 (released in 2017) as you
described. However it's the same MIMO error message I am getting. I'm
hoping the same fix will be updated to the version for trusty.

Yes I did run with sudo. The error message is different without sudo. I
think the new 14.04.5 fixed a lot of problems with the new intel cpu. At
least it fixed all my graphics card driver issue in one shot. However,
how do I find out what is supported with intel-gpu-tools?

Hello - I'm unable to reproduce this bug because I can't use hibernation
on my system but I may have spotted the problem while fixing a different
bug. Could someone that's still affected by this bug, when using the
4.13.0-38.43 kernel, please try out the test kernel that I built here:
I can't find any fix that exists upstream yet. It sounds like Red Hat
just reverted the problematic commit.

After rebuilding package bcmwl-kernel-source from source as a backport
from Bionic 18.04 I have no error on building dkms for linux kernel
4.15, as expected.

IIRC all the discussions correctly that was one of the harder cases due

Just did some apt-get updates and upgrades and on the version now as below and
the issues disappeared.
The Grub screen is back to normal now with the small font. Issue can be closed.

But it did not solve the problem for me.
If I build via "make-kpkg", then the debian/rules gets overwritten which
contains the patch.

Just a comment on your last guess:
The output I posted was really the output from lspci. I noticed as well
this was not the output I get on other kernels for this command. However
on other kernels all pci are claimed so the unclaimed status of one pci
may explain the different output.

People/tester who still need the patched qemu can prevent that from being
upgraded by pinning it aka marking it as hold
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PinningHowto).
Even in case of an accidental upgrade - it's easy to go again back to that
version.
