Re: [lace] Picture on Flicker
Thank you to Sue and Jocelyn for explaining that there are options to the left of Albums. My logical, right-handed mind tends to assume that we are shown the leftmost options. > On Apr 14, 2021, at 17:56, Sue Babbs wrote: > > Hi All > > When someone writes to say they have just posted a photo, I suggest you start > by looking at the photostream on https://www.flickr.com/photos/lacemaker/ as > it shows the most recent photos first. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Am I the only one who struggles to find specific pictures in the Flickr albums? Despite looking several times I still can’t see the mythical hankie. This isn’t the first time I have had this problem either. Re: [lace] Picture on Flicker
I used to have this problem, but then I realized that if you look at the top menu bar on the Flickr page, there’s an option called “Photostream”. Click on that and the most recent upload will be the first thing you see. Re[2]: [lace] Picture on Flicker
Hi All When someone writes to say they have just posted a photo, I suggest you start by looking at the photostream on https://www.flickr.com/photos/lacemaker/ as it shows the most recent photos first. The Carmen Roig Ortuno handkerchief does not show up in any of the albums as it has not been assigned to them. [lace] Happy Anniversary
I joined in 1996 so have been a member for 25 years if my math is correct.  That is a beautiful lace hanky on Flickr but not much cloth area for blowing your nose ;-) Nice to get a Lace Digest after such a long gap. Last Saturday I had two pieces of lace purchased from an online charity event.  Both went to appreciative people so I didn't mind that the prices were not as high as they should have been for the work involved, raised $100 for abused children and battered women.  Gets them out of my home and may be worn or admired by others.Janice Janice Blair Murrieta, CA, jblace.com - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] Happy Anniversary
Hi Shelagh, I had carpal tunnel problems in both hands, and had surgery on both. The first surgery was the standard ligament release with a long incision -- it healed up tight and I occasionally have problems still in that hand, plus it was a long and painful recovery. The other wrist was done endoscopically: they made a little slit at the end of my arm and another in my palm, and inserted a tube and a tiny camera. The surgeon cut the ligament from the inside, releasing the pressure on the nerve. I had a bandaid on both little slits, a local nerve block, no tranquilizer or other anesthetic, and no pain--I drove myself home afterwards! That release has stayed released and I have no problems in that hand anymore. Moral of the story -- get a release done soon, but make sure it's endoscopic surgery. I can type or make lace for hours on end with no problem with my left wrist or hand, and minimal problems with my right (the standard surgery). (Shoulders and back are a different story!) The release makes a world of difference, but the standard one can be only partially effective. Hope this helps. Good luck to you. Hi, Thanks. Yes, I am going to physio and have some exercises to do. I also use a magic bag and the heat helps and I wear a brace at night when I sleep. It is very annoying and frustrating! Oh well. [lace] Virtual Lacemaking Weekend - 17 and 18 April 2021
Firstly, I will add my 'happy birthday' to Arachne, having been a member since July 1995 (we've been going 27 years now). Thanks to everyone who has supported others and shared their lace journey over the years. As some of you will know, I volunteer on a small preserved railway in Porthmadog, North Wales, and for about ten years now have been organising lacemaking events to raise money for the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway (which is a registered charity). Last year, due to Covid lockdowns we couldn't get together on site so I moved the events to an event page on Facebook, which has proved successful and I have had requests to carry on doing the events virtually even when we can meet up again. This coming weekend is the first event of 2021. We are still prevented from meeting on site due to the current restrictions so what would have been our April Lacemaking Weekend, getting together in the volunteers' 'mess' to chat and make lace, will again be done totally online. The link to the page is below, but please note you won't be able to post to the event discussion until after 10.30am (BST) on Saturday. Due to the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh taking place on Saturday afternoon, there will be a pause in the event from about 2.40pm for the duration. We will then carry on until 9.00pm on Saturday and 10.30am to 9.00pm on Sunday. Please do join in, making lace in the safety of your own home and sharing photos and comments with us. Re: [lace] Happy Anniversary
Hi I, too, joined Arachne many years ago. After a 15 year absence I have taken up bobbin lacemaking again. It is great fun to see so many names I remember from years ago. Everyone was very helpful and I learned a great deal from people on this list. My favourite types of bobbin lace are Torchon and Bucks, but I have also done some Honiton and Chrysanthum. Next I want to try Idrija and Milanese. Unfortunately I, too, have developed a pinched nerve or Carpal Tunnel syndrome in both my wrists so I now limit lacemaking to 15 minutes at a time and then take a long break. Sigh! It has been a great activity to help pass time during this difficult time of lockdowns due to Covid. Happy lacemaking. Re: [lace] Happy Anniversary
I joined you all in 2005 to keep in touch with lacemakers after my lace teacher retired and neither she nor the class was replaced. I contined to learn and be inspired to carry on although I added tatting to my interests which I have been doing more of in recent years. I have ventured into Quilting last year to create special gifts for special people but have returned to working some lace right now. I got some UFO's completed ready for future brides and have had a big fight on my hands trying to relearn bucks point in order to work another horseshoe to match one worked in 2018. I think I am doing ok now and as long as I take it very slow and check often it is growing at last and I am going forwards more than going backward. I number of Arachnids have been a huge help in my years in the group and I thank them for the help, guidance and support at various times. I am currently working with some pretty numb fingers so it is a bigger challenge now, but good for the grey matter and finger dexterity to keep pushing. So Happy Anniversary to all on the list.
