Once you have got them unlinked, they are orphans in your tree. I
think that you can get rid of them completely by one of the File
Maintenance procedures -- perhaps Check/Repair, or Compact Family File.

Barry, when I wanted to replace two commas with one, I exported a
Gedcom for Legacy, and put that through a text editor. Your case was
different, in that you wanted to remove non-printing characters at the
end of a line.
