Hi,all
I'm very in troubled.
Please teach me.
I want to use shared DASD.
The DASD(ADDRESS:1000) is used by two SLES9s.
SLES9s are running on different z/VMs.
(One SLES9-A is running on z/VM-A, the other SLES9-B is
running on z/VM-B.)
Firstly, can I do above scenario?
Thank you

If you have stuff written in EXEC (not EXEC2 or REXX), the time function
will return the system clock, in this case in GMT.
So, if you are an old VM shop with lots of EXECs written, it is
something to consider.

If, and _only_ if *both* SLES9 systems have the disk READ ONLY, and
mount it read only. Even so, this would not be a good idea. Use NFS or
something else to share file systems.

yes you can, no you shouldn't.
how are you going to ensure the integrity of your data if two SLES zLinux

even if you mount read only, you'll never know what is being handled in

In certain circumstances, sharing a limited amount of dasd read-write among
LPARs is possible using hardware reserve/release. We do this with our shared
tape catalog in VM:Tape (which is on its own real 3390 with its own controller
separate from our regular DASD.) However, it is NOT useful if
The issue that goes beyond this is that Linux doesn't understand shared
devices. It can't synchronize writes at the OS level. You have the ability
at the application level with OCFS and Oracle raw devices. I'm sure there
are others, but that's off the top of my head.

is anybody familiar with the process of cloning one SLES zLinux so I don't
have to re-install everything from scratch when I bring up a second LPAR.
I created my first LPAR from CD's. Then I went an added a very extensive

I'll try to find some time in the next couple of weeks to re-do a SLES9
