Not. You have to buy it from SuSE
I hope i've sent this inquiry to the correct address.
The other night our SUN system running Solaris 2.6 crashed. Attached via
NFS mount were a couple of LINUX machines (each was running SLACKWARE
2.2.16). When the SUN box crashed it appears to have hosed the linux
machines. We couldn't log
I am under the impression that all maintenance needed has been applied (z/VM
SuSE). I needed some examples to cross check with those who actually have
a working model. Maybe we have a misconfigured subnet. I'm just trying to
rule out as much as possible.

Do you have it as hard mount ? Try mount as soft .

How do you update a system you cannot boot (SuSE 7.2 in this case)? The
docs on the CD of maintenance I have say to 'run yast2 from the installed
system' which is impossible, since I cannot get it to install.
I have a ton of patches on the one maint CD I recieved. I was even able to
use this to
OK, one step at a time

Well, after a long time I think I have some downloads that I can now

I'm trying to get the Sles7-beta up and running so I can install Websphere but I'm
running into problems getting the install kernal up.
After creating a the IPable tape to get the install kernal booted I get the following

Steve,
I'm not aware of anyone using Ditto for this purpose. It may very well
work, but I personally can't say. Page 50 of the Distributions Redbook
details, step by step, how to download the starter files and write them to
tape on a VM system. Perhaps try that and see if it works better. Or,
Joan,
These were Linux/390 systems? Or Intel Linux? (Just curious where you
might have gotten the Slackware.)
NFS servers going down is well-known to cause problems with the systems that
have NFS file systems mounted. As Eddie Chen pointed out, you can specify
soft on the mount parameters,
Seriously look at FCONX/ESA, the world's least well known IBM product
AFAIK. It can take the input from the RMF PM Linux agents directly and
display it in useful ways, as well as providing VM data as well.

I had done that previously (see ZIPL Dased and Confused) but here goes:
Installed from initdrd supplied on patch/maint CD for SuSE 7.2 (2.4.7 kern)
and was able to get dasdfmt to work.
Used fdasd to create CDL formatted volumes.

The first IPL record must be the next record on the tape when the IPL is
issued. This error shows that it is not. Check your tape position.
If you rewind the tape before you write the IPL record and then rewind the
tape just before the IPL you will avoid this error.

James,
What I would recommend doing is this:
1. IPL from the tape you created to start the install.
2. Start the install process again. When it gets to the point where the
DASD volumes are mounted, stop.
3. Start another telnet/ssh session to the system. (If you try to break out

There is a reproducible memory mapping problem with the s390 SuSE linux
setup we have. The bug occurs when two processes have private, read-only
mappings of the same file and both processes page in the same page at
the same time. The PTE for that page gets incorrectly marked dirty, which
