I need to get a new internal CD-Writer.

Any recommendations?
Thanks.
So far as I know all CDR's work in linux with SCSI emulation not
sure if others work directly with ATAPI.
But Dragon PC www.dragonpc.co.nz has an Aopen 40x12x48 for $160, which
seems like a bargain. My flatmate bought one and got it to work okay,
and I intend to get one of these when i've
I have a BTC and it works fine, it took a hammering at the Installfest by

How do you know it writes okay when you can't read what you've written? :-)
Okay, well I didn't want to say this, *ducks from flames*, but everytime
that it has hung (it doesn't always)... it has been trying to read a

I tried BTC at one stage, and couldn't get it to work no matter what...
it would blank cdrw disks, and make coasters out of cdr's... thats it!!
Ended up getting an Aopen, and it just worked out of the box...

was looking at getting a plextor scsi, but the cost was somewhat prohibitive,
so unless it is a commercial situation, i think the price and standard of the
Aopen drives are more than adequate...

The Aopen writers get good and bad reviews on the net.
On the forums people sware by them.. and then others
can't stand them.
If your going with scsi make sure the card works/has
support under linux.
But the IDE one are near perfect now and burn at alot
faster speeds eg under 3.5 mins for
For what it's worth..
I've got two CD writers that work fine under RedHat 7.2, A BTC 32speed, and
an old Acer 2speed..
The BTC is from Corporate Consumables, and the Acer is old as the hills in
CDR terms..
I recently brought the new one as the old 2speed is starting to make
frisbees under

I _think_ it is quite unlikely you'll have any problems with
pretty much any atapi (ide) drive will work. As should any scsi that has

Hi,
Does cdrecord work with USB cd writers ?
Other software ?
Siq.
Has anyone used a CD writer connecting via USB, and if so is it a
recommended way of doing things?
I'm considering USB because I'll be able to swap the drive between my
collection of PCs and eventually plug it into my PS2 when I get the
Linux kit.
OTOH if it's dog slow, expensive and
