Dear list, I was wondering if any of you has had to do this before, and has maybe programmed a script or something to automate it: I need to look for all descriptions in a file and insert an index entry with the described item as text. Thanks, Manolo

Did you set up some more fonts or change things after the standard installation of your TeX distribution (and which TeX distro do you use)? It turns out I had too few fonts installed. After installing the ubuntu package texlive-fonts-extra, the style works perfectly. Thanks for helping

It most certainly is a font issue. Could you try if this happens with every math formula, only with sub- and superscripts, maybe with formulae in headings or otherwise scaled? Actually, you need no math formula for the error to show A title in an otherwise empty file is enough. Say,
