Any suggestions as to what the problem might be? rotating.sty is used in the UserGuide for rotating the contents of cells in the Tabular-Documentation. Now if you want print it without having it installed than you probably have to remove the table which does the rotating stuff, but much easier is to search rotating.sty on CTAN and put it in the same directory with your document (if you use temp-dirs you have to put it in the same temp-directory LyX creates) or you add the local-tex-directory to the TEXINPUT environment-variable before starting LyX. I want to use it with a custom LaTeX class file Nien-Po (foo.cls), but it is not part of the standard LaTeX Nien-Po installation. I use a shared UNIX host, so I don't have the Nien-Po previllage to install it in latex/inputs/ directory, where Nien-Po LyX looks for *.cls files. I'm wondering can LyX use *.cls Nien-Po files at non-standard location (say, the same directory as my Nien-Po *.lyx file)? (on the other hand, latex seems OK on this non- Nien-Po standard location of *.cls and *.sty.) Any input will be Nien-Po appreciated. Hello, In fact, LyX does not have to find the .cls file, and it is enough that LaTeX can see them. However, you have to provide LyX with a foo.layout file, which describes what the .cls file does. Creating these layout file requires a bit of LaTeX knowledge, but is not very difficult if your class is similar to the base latex classes. You can find more info on this subject in the Customization manual. JMarc

I do not know how to strictly disable all hyphenation (surely a solution can be found in good LaTeX books), but inserting the command "\sloppy" in the latex preamble (Pulldown: Layout - LaTex Preamble) will get you rid of virtually all hyphenations. The cost is a somewhat less restrictive typesetting (more variable space between single words), but it's usually hard to notice by eye. I assume that putting "\sloppy" in red (TeX style) in front of a paragraph will have the same effort for the following text. You can switch back to fuzzy typesetting by specifying "\fuzzy" at any place. Hope this helps. Dirk Hope this helps. actually, it didnt work completely. i put \sloppy at the beginning of a line and it made "system-s" change to "sys-tems" which is certainly an improvement, but \sloppy at the beginning of another paragraph had no affect at all. i then removed these and put \sloppy in the preamble only, but it had exactly the same effect. that is - it only changed the word "systems" JMarc In what language are you typesetting your document? "Nien-Po" == Nien-Po Chen [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Nien-Po Hi LyX users, I just discovered LyX and am very excited about Nien-Po it. JMarc

This is not a serious problem for me but Ralph violates the principle that lyx should be able to read in any Ralph tex document that it creates and get back the original lyx Ralph docuement. I don't need this problem fixed but others might. Hello, I do not any answers for the rest of your message, but this particular problem is indeed there. In fact the \char is added because of the ^%*^% german babel option which insists on using " as a fancy macro. That's why LyX outputs \char". Amir, can reLyX cope with it in some way?

Is possible to do something similar with lyx: 1- lyx displays the characters from these fonts via the x-fonts server 2- the encoding of these fonts can be given to the document in the same way as we do for latin1 encoding 3- I can use special key bindings to produce these special characters in lyx window: e.g. F12 a gives an a macron, F12 d gives a d underdot etc. Thank you. -- François Patte. If that doesn't work, type X to quit. 2.--- Too many unprocessed floats. l.183 der Str^^f6mung.\marginpar { You've lost some text. Try typing to proceed. If that doesn't work, type X to quit. 7.--- Too many unprocessed floats. L72 }} All these errors are in a input file named example.lyx. When I compile example.lyx alone no errors occur! I looks in the LaTex log file and think, that the errors caused by marginpar, for example: Die Materialeigenschaften des Glases: \begin_float margin \layout Standard blablablabla \end_float accordingly the third error message. I remove the all marginpars and no errors occur. But I do not think, what is wrong with marginpars! greetings, Reinhard -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reinhard Borek Exp. (on the other hand, latex seems OK on this non- Nien-Po> standard location of *.cls and *.sty.) Any input will be Nien-Po> appreciated. JMarc

In fact the \char is added because of the &^%*&^% german babel option which insists on using " as a fancy macro. That's why LyX outputs \char". Amir, can reLyX cope with it in some way? JMarc
hyphens
g'day again, in my 'book' class document i've foudn that Lyx and/or latex insists on putting hyphens in unintelligent places, such as "system-s". can anyone tell me how i can disable all hyphenation ? or is it possible to disable it on an individual paragraph basis at least ? please have a nice day. susie.

Hello, In what language are you typesetting your document? I just checked and the only hypenation proposed by TeX in english for `systems' is `sys-tems'. I do not understand how you could get something as `system-s'. JMarc
Captions in italics?
Is it possible to make figure and table captions in italic fonts? I'm using the Report environment. Re: hyphens
Dirk> Hope this helps. actually, it didnt work completely. i put \sloppy at the beginning of a line and it made "system-s" change to "sys-tems" which is certainly an improvement, but \sloppy at the beginning of another paragraph had no affect at all. i then removed these and put \sloppy in the preamble only, but it had exactly the same effect. that is - it only changed the word "systems" JMarc> In what language are you typesetting your document? Is possible to do something similar with lyx: 1- lyx displays the characters from these fonts via the x-fonts server 2- the encoding of these fonts can be given to the document in the same way as we do for latin1 encoding 3- I can use special key bindings to produce these special characters in lyx window: e.g. F12 a gives an a macron, F12 d gives a d underdot etc. Thank you. -- François Patte. Vertical Page Centering
I have been using LaTeX for some time and am now switching to LyX. In my first few attempts I have had a hard time getting some sample letters I have written centered vertically on the page. Is this a feature of LyX or am I doing something wrong? How can I influence this vertical positioning so that it is more centered on the page? Thanks for your help. Prior versions (1.0.2 and I think 1.0.3) had problems with misconfigured dvips setups (the default for most tetex installations seems to be A4 paper, where Letter sized paper is most likely desired. You can tell whether this is the problem by doing a "View Posctscript" and printing the letter from ghostview. If you do this and it works correctly, then you should either upgrade to LyX 1.0.4pre6 (get the RPM from my ftp site: ftp://ftp.sylvan.com/pub/lyx) or fix your dvips config.ps file to use Letter sized paper by default. -- Kayvan Aghaiepour Sylvan | Proud husband of | Father to my kids: Sylvan Associates, Inc. | Laura Isabella Sylvan | Katherine Yelena (8/8/89) http://sylvan.com/~kayvan | | Robin Gregory (2/28/92)
