2 columns document with columns of different width
I would like to know if it is possible to create a document wich has 2 columns of different width, for exemple a wide column at the right side of the page, approx 13 cm wide, and a smaller one of 4 cm at the left side. The main text would be in the main column, and the left column would be used only for section or subsections titles, tables titles, or figures titles. I tried with a reverse margin note but I lost the result if I change the basic font of the document from time to helvetica for instance. I'm responsible for Education Bulletins where I work and I would like to give a try to LyX for documents such as this one: http://www.meq.gouv.qc.ca/STAT/Bulletin/bulletin_15.pdf (225 ko in french) or http://www.meq.gouv.qc.ca/STAT/Bulletin/bulletin_15an.pdf (177 ko translated in english). Algorithm options
I am using the algorithm float in LyX together with the listing package. Most things work as I want them to use. So I am able to change the float's name as well as the name of the list of floats with these commands in the LyX preambel: \floatname{algorithm}{XYZ} \renewcommand{\listalgorithmname}{List of XYZs} But how can I change the *numbering scheme* of algorithm floats to insert the chapter's number? By default algotithms are just counted throuout the document. Every time I insert \usepackage{algorithm}[chapter] in the preamble I got errors. Another question is how to change the floating behaviour of that float type? By default (reading the sty file) that float type is set to respect options {htbp}{loa}. I want them to use {tbp} instead. (BTW: What does {loa} mean? The float documentation -- just a README -- doesn't say anything about!) Claus

Help on multi reference footnote
Is it possible to refrence an existing footnote instead of creating a new footnote? I tried labeling the foot note then cross-refrencing to it. That actually worked except the cross-refrence was regular size text and not superscripted like a regular footnote. I've looked for a superscript menu option but couldn't find one. I aknow in math mode you can get superscripting by pressing the '^' key. But you can't do cross-refrencing in math mode. Any ideas?

?multi-part doc update_dvi not always update?
Hi, I'm using LyX 1.1.5 fix2. I learn from the manual that I can do multi-part doc, and the trick to cross- ref between different parts. They work. However, one thing bothering me is that when I make some changes in one sub-doc, switch to master doc, and do 'update dvi', LyX does not do any thing, because it thinks there's no change. If I intentionally add/delete a space to register a change in the master doc, 'update dvi' still does not do any thinkg, because LyX smartly thinks dvi is intact. The only work-around I can think of is to manually close/re-open master doc and do 'view dvi'. This is combersome! Any better idea? URL's in Latex - HTML
I am creating some documentation using the Article layout that needs to be exported in both HTML and PDF format. A typical Makefile entry looks like: solaris-security: solaris-security.lyx lyx --export latex solaris-security.lyx latex2html -split 4 -show_section_numbers solaris-security.tex cd solaris-security;pdflatex ../solaris-security.tex This produces OK PDF but the embedded URL's in both the HTML and PDF appear as: www.insecure.org http://www.insecure.org/ It doesn't matter whether I select 'HTML Type' or not. I tried switching to the LinuxDOC layout which fixed the URL problem in the HTML but left the '#' in comment lines in sample scripts as {[num ]} -- --Stephen Carville http://www.heronforge.net/~stephen/gnupgkey.txt == Government is like burning witches: After years of burning young women failed to solve any of society's problems, the solution was to burn more young women. ==

Possible bug
I was trying to revise the LyX guide I've been writing to explain how to get non-ps images into a LyX document. I went through the normal Insert - External Material - Rasterized image procedure. No problem - the ugly grey box came up as expected. However, when I the clicked on the box and clicked "View result", the program froze. I played around with this and found it does not happen all the time. Any ideas? BTW, IMHO this feature, while impressive, needs to be made a little more user-friendly. I'm trying to push LyX in a work-environment where some users only recently discovered the difference between the Delete and Backspace keys, so "Rasterized" is really going to throw them! Robin

I know some LateX commands, but that's too much. As far as I know this would change the previous layout. Is it necessary? 2) Final question -- sounds very silly -- how to work with it? The following commands are new: - \newcommand{\@mystarttoc}[1] ... - \newcommand{\myaddtocont}[1] ... Does \myaddtocont add a chapter to a new TOC which can be listed with \mystarttoc? Thanks for help. Martin
Any ideas?

Re: Problem with "Texref"
Hi, i'm not sure, but when using vref in tex i somtimes get a similar error. This is because the reference is around a page break and LaTeX can't decide which kind of reference it has to use. The problem is that lyx already loads the algorithm package without the 'chapter' option. You have 2 options: 1. Put 'chapter' in the 'extra options' field in the document dialog. The problem is that the chapter option may be passed to other packages, giving you unwanted results. So it may be better to use the next option. 2. Enable AMS-math in the document dialog, and put '\numberwithin{algorithm}{chapter}' in the preamble. > > Another question is how to change the floating behaviour of that float type? > By default (reading the sty file) that float type is set to respect options > {htbp}{loa}.
Thanks. -- Chen, Nien-Po [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.physics.purdue.edu/~npchen/ Feb 22 2001 ==

I've tried both Someone suggested that it might be a xforms problem, so I realized that I forgot to mention that I use xforms-0.88-3 from the rpm at sylvan.com. These are the outputs of gdb. The rpms are taken from sylvan.com and all the binaries are the default ones which come with RedHat 6.2. Usually, I don't compile anything (just imagine, on my 5 years old 486!). 1.1.5fix1 (stripped) says: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x8287dc4 in ?? I am not a programmer, so I didn't know what else to ask gdb. If you need more information, and if you would find the output of 0.12 useful, please mail me. Thank you. A. M.
Robin
URL's in Latex -> HTML
