Yes in CopyQ for me when I retrieve an item in history it pastes it as it would paste it if I did an immediate copy/paste. That is, the LyX note (and everything else) would be preserved. You do have to set this up though (i.e. explicitly tell CopyQ to store the LyX representation of the clipboard). It is reasonable for clipboard managers to default to only preserving certain formats. Otherwise a lot of memory is needed. Re: Problems to select text in Lyx 2.1.4 / Ubuntu 16.04
Thank you Liviu for this further explanation. I understand that LyX has a history of problems with clipoard managers. In the current case this seems triggered by a buggy version of gpaste, which causes also other problems. But fortunately, there is an easy solution, if gpaste is replaced by another clipboard manager. I will post this analysis also in the German ubuntuusers-forum, so maybe together we can find the underlying causes of these problems. Re: Problems to select text in Lyx 2.1.4 / Ubuntu 16.04
Thank you, Scott and all here. I have tested now the situation on 4 computers and I can confirm, that the gpaste-extension for the GNOME Shell interferes with LyX, so that problems in selecting text occur. As soon as I remove gpaste LyX works normally. The gpaste extension consists of 4 packages: gpaste (this seems to be the gpaste-demon), gnome- shell-extensions-gpaste (the visible shell extension), gir1.2-gpaste-4.0, libgpaste4. I am not sure, whether it is the shell-extension, that causes the problems or the underlying gpaste-demon. It is still strange, that only LyX has those text-selection problems, whereas all other programs work normally together with gpaste. Also LyX worked fine prior to Ubuntu 16.04. In Debian 8.x gpaste has the version 3.14-2, in Ubuntu it has the version 3.18.3-1. Anyway gpaste causes some other strange problems in Ubuntu 16.04. The gpaste-demon seems to trigger an XORG-process which consumes extreme amounts of CPU-power. So I would give the advice that gpaste should not be used in Ubuntu 16.04; it can be replaced by Clipboard Indicator, which can be installed online via the GNOME extensions website. Thank you for all the help and best wishes, yours, Hermann Josef Am Thu, 09 Jun 2016 17:58:35 -0400 schrieb Scott Kostyshak: > On Thu, Jun 09, 2016 at 09:08:16PM +, Hermann Josef Eckl wrote: >> Thank you very much, Jean-Marc. Re: Problems to select text in Lyx 2.1.4 / Ubuntu 16.04
Thank you, Guillaume, for your advice. I tried this PPA with LyX 2.2. Unfortunately the problem persists also with this new version. Additionally, the selection of text is VERY slowly and the selection breaks again after some words or lines. Dear Hermann Josef, I fixed a bug like this in 2.2. I would advise you to try 2.2 from the PPA https://launchpad.net/~lyx-devel/+archive/ubuntu/release .
