I've typeset several of my books in lyx using the memoir book package.
But now, on a new computer and fresh install of lyx I can't find a single book
package in settings and somewhere in the somewhat confusing help pages find a
note that memoir is broken
n studying the tcolorbox manual. But when I try to change parameters in the lyx preamble nothing seems to change. So I'm guessing there's a lyx issue I'm ignorant of.
I'd much appreciate any and all tips to help solve these issues.

If you right click the float box a load of options appear - one of which is
Span Columns.
Check this box and all should be ok.
BTW in many cases the float will appear on the page following its position
so if you want it to span two columns on page 2 make sure you place it
somewhere on page 1.

Have you installed the Maths fonts (Bakoma)?
These help Lyx display math properly.
It is on the wiki http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyX136 under maths fonts

In trying to help with another thread (pdflatex & MacOS X) I have come across
something I don't understand.
It appears that when you do Export->pdflatex Lyx does not do what I expected.
Here is what I think should happen:
Lyx->Latex->pdf (using pdflatex) AND it should produce the same resu
On Lyx1.3.6 you simply need to go to Layout->Document->Language
I dont have Edit->Text style either. Really it works if you do above..
