The author is output with the command, so one can redefine \lyxadded or
\lyxdeleted to do something with it. The default is just:
\DeclareRobustCommand{\lyxadded}[3]{{\color{lyxadded}{}#3}}
\DeclareRobustCommand{\lyxdeleted}[3]{{\color{lyxdeleted}\lyxsout{#3}}}
and the LaTeX looks like:

Hello, I'm working on a paper revision with LyX 2.3.1 (Windows 7). The requirement is to resubmit a pdf file that only shows added text while the deleted text should not be shown. See: http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/9678 I've checked with ulem's author and he said he would consider extending the support for display math (it appears to be a tricky issue). I just pinged him again (now a year later), so we'll see what he says. As for the short run, I don't know of a workaround. If what I deleted does not contain a displayed equation, I can export the contents of my lyx file to a pdf file, and then print it out. However, if I delete a displayed equation, then an error message appears during the export to a pdf phase. I've also exported a lyx file to a plain latex file, with the changes in output on. In this case, again I get similar errors. With the changes in output off, latex does not generate errors. Is this a limitation of "tracking changes" or an error? I am using TeX Live 2015 on Ubuntu but I expect this depends more on the LyX version than the TeX Live version. Attached is the PDF that is created for me. It appears that if you are generating PDFs with fancy headers on, and change tracking, that changing the last section of a page (the one that ends up in the fancy header) is not allowed. See attached minimal example file, poking the 'View PDF (pdflatex)' button should generate the error. The error is "Package xcolor Error: Undefined color 'LYXADDED'." 1. Can someone verify that this is still a problem in the newest version of LyX? (my distro is still using lyx 1.6.10 & texlive-2007-60) 1a. if it seems to be working, please state lyx and *tex version, so I know when I should see relief from this error. [I have worked around it by just 'accepting' the changed section, but it is always confusing when I hit it.] 2. Change tracking: no change bar in PDF output
There is a possible bug here:
Using change tracking with PDF output (pdflatex), the \lyxdeleted and \lyxadded
commands work as supposed (respectively: read, strike out and blue). However,
the change bar is not printed at the margin.
Looking at the source, I noticed that LyX uses the xcolor, pdfcolmk and ulem
pacs to show the changes, when the output is directly piped to a PDF.
OTOH, if I export the doc to (plain) latex, LyX will use the dvipost package.
Then, with "pplatex " and "dvipdf ", the resulting PDF contains the
change bar.

Lyx 2.1.2 on Windows 7: When I do File/New document, it opens up with change-tracking switched on, so that I start typing and then have to undo it and turn off change-tracking and start again. Not life-threatening, but annoying... and I can't find where to control this behaviour. If it's not just me, then Tools/Preferences/Look&Feel/Document handling could be a good place for a checkbox to turn this off/on for new documents. Mark

Hi Ehud,
The reason you get "Figure D" is that the label is outside of the
figure caption. Thus, LaTeX thinks that you want to reference the
section, not the figure. Your sections are lettered. Thus, this must
have been in the 4th section of your LyX document.
To fix this, put the label inside the caption (I think anywhere is
fine) of the graphic. Does that work?

Output color while change tracking
When I choose to show
changes in output, the changed text appears blue in the pdf
output,
and the changebar in the margin appears gray.
I would like to be able to control the color of both the changed
text and the changebar.
How do I do that? Do I change the number (#3) in the \cbstart\color
command?

Regarding your potential bug number 1, I think I see what you are

reproduce the behavior you found. You can then note that any of
several actions could also be used for that step.
I hope I'm not coming across as upset. I'm not at all. I think that it
takes time to learn how to write a good MWE. I also think that we are
missing documentation on how to make an MWE specifically in the
context of LyX. A search for "MWE" at wiki.lyx.org gives nothing. This
is something I would like to work on documenting. Let me know if you
have any suggestions for me.
My guess is that these are LyX bugs. If you are able and willing to
make MWE(s) (either one that shows both problems, or two separate
ones), it would be great if you could open separate bug reports on
www.lyx.org/trac. Please attach any relevant files to each bug report.

I have encountered two problems (using Lyx 2.0.5.1, (L)ubuntu 12.10 64 bit): I wanted a frame around a floating figure. So I inserted a wrap-float, and placed a box in it, into which I pasted my graphics. Now when I refer in the text to the figure by its label, the figure number appears as Figure D, not Figure 3 as it should. I need to track changes and show the results in the pdf output. When I make ANY change to the figure and compile, I get a (to me nonsensical) error message, and the compilation stops. If I ACCEPT the changes I made to the figure, the error message disappears. I seem to have found an undocumented "feature" of LyX 2.02. If I have Track Changes turned on AND have Show Changes in Output turned on AND have an embedded Gnumeric spreadsheet deleted in the current changes awaiting acceptance or rejection THEN PDFLaTeX dies every time. The solution for me is to make sure I accept the deletion of spreadsheets before I try to make a PDF of the document to sent to my colleagues for them to look at the changes before I accept them. If I have Show Changes in Output turned off, there is no problem. I'm running LyX 2.02 and TeXLive 2011 on Gentoo Linux. Les

Try to add \protect in front of \color, and then in front of \marginpar.

What is the definition that you use? You may need to use \protect,
because the contents of a caption is a so called ``moving argument''.

It seems that inserting notes into a Lyx file while tracking changes modifies the color of some parts of the text in the pdf output to blue, misleading the reader to believe that the blue text is new insertions, while it is not. This is true of both 1.6.4 (on Kubuntu 9.10, 64 bit) and 1.6.5 (Windows XP). Is this a bug? It certainly is not a helpful feature! EK

Then, each person editing the document will see the modifications with a certain color order that is different from the other person. Is that not confusing? I'm not sure I understand what is confusing. At least, I assume that you're not speaking with your colleagues about the 'blue' changes. I think it also makes sense that if you are making changes, they are always in blue. The reason for that was that if you use version control on your document, you don't want the ordering of the authors to change. Indeed I verified this behavior by changing the Name at Tools -> Preferences ... -> Identity. When I did that, any previous modification was depicted with the color assigned to the 2nd. author (pink), while new modifications had the color of the 1st author (blue). When I switched back the Identity to my name, the modifications had their colors altered accordingly: pink -> blue and blue -> pink. I think that now I understand how it works. However, is that now confusing? Wouldn't it be better if each new registered author has always the same color assigned? Change tracking ignoring spaces (RC5)
Hello - while the other citation-related change tracking problem I reported a couple days ago still exists in RC5, I came across another issue today. If I add a space with track changes turned on, the space isn't showing up in the output where I have "show changes in output" turned on. Is this a known bug? Also, (and I know this is unrelated to the current issue) but I'm having a problem where when I do an Update DVI after making a change, the DVI preview I already have open does not update. I'm using TexShop on Mac OS X to preview the DVI file.. does TexShop not automatically detect the changes? I have the option for "Automation Preview Update" set in TexShop. Thanks!

I just installed 1.6 RC4 and tried this and it still errors when I turn on track changes, delete a citation and try viewing output w/ the "show changes in output" turned on. Shows up in Lyx fine but cannot generate output. What version did you try and how did you do it?

Hi - I'm running into an issue where if I delete a citation and have change tracking on, then the output (pdf) cannot be generated.. same issue as was discussed on this list a while back (http://article.gmane.org/gmane.editors.lyx.general/48375) .. is this resolved in 1.6? problem with citations and change tracking
I'm using lyx 1.5.1 under Ubuntu Gutsy. Over the years, I've used the built-in support in LyX for RCS (works very well for individual use only) every now and again but usually use one of the distributed revision control systems. In case of conflicts, you will need to deal with the lyx source, so have a look at a lyx source file in a text-editor before and decide whether all co-workers would be able to make sense of it. Hi, I experience the same problem on my Mac running LyX 1.5.1. When I look at "Tools/TeX Information/LaTeX styles" I see both, "xcolor.sty" and "soul.sty". I tested "xcolor" form the terminal and it worked. "Soul" contains as far as I can tell only the .sty file, so copying it to a location included in the path should do (and it is even recognized by LyX). Doesn't solve the problem however ... I guess if all the authors have friendly tech support staff available to set up the SVN server and fix the obsure errors for them, SVN would be the best bet for keeping all the versions in sync. except svn currently does not have any integration with LyX's VC menu. however if you are familiar with working with svn on the command line and remember to refresh the LyX buffer after VC operations, it should work fine. You could layer change tracking on top of that for reviewing changes --- this should be a lot more convenient than trying to use the SVN diff to understand and selectively undo changes. Unfortunately this does not currently exist. Version Control vs. Change Tracking
Hi there. I'd be very thankful if anyone would be kind enough to clarify the main differences between Version Control and Change Tracking. As far as I could gather, Change Tracking is useful when one or more authors are submitting changes to the same LyX file and then the principal author can accept or reject the changes, as explained in the Wiki pages http://wiki.lyx.org/Tips/ChangeTrackingLyx1-3-2 According to the wiki, changes appear on the display in red and are recorded in the same file as the main text. Then you can send this only file to different authors which can in turn make further changes. Whereas with Version control, as far as I could understand the explanation in the Extended LyX Features manual, a group of different authors submit changes to a text, which are recorded in different files. This means that all the files in the project must stay on the same system, and the authors must log on this system to propose modifications to the text. Am I right or did I get it completely wrong? Please don't RTFM me, some short hints can greatly reduce the learning curve for me. I'm interested on the best feature for a group of authors in different institutions to edit a manuscript for a paper, for instance. Hi, how can I disable change tracking? I have tried to select the (ticked) menu entry (Document->Change tracking...->Track changes) but it can be disabled. I have quit LyX - no help. According to my experience, collaborative writing when the authors are working in their own parts is flawless and I am happily using it. However, things get complicated when: 1) you run into a conflict, merging the files using standard tools may produce invalid LyX file. This is due to the fact that LyX file contains, e.g. \begin_inset ERT status Collapsed \layout Standard \backslash \end_inset This confuse all merging tools I tried, since they are line-based and they are not able to respect the corresponding \begin_inset and \end_inset. If they (or you manually) accidently remove the beginning or end, you are in trouble. If anyone known of a merging tool that is able to treat \begin_inset \end_inset correctly, please let me know. 2) using LyX Change-Tracking feature. The trouble is that LyX is changing ID numbers of each change when saving. Therefore, any two saved documents have differences on the same line, causing conflicts. change tracking in 1.4.2
my change tracking does not appear in output. i exported DVI, and ran dvips, however, it complains: dvips: Could not find figure file dvipost:; continuing dvips is installed on the box, but lyx/dvips is apparently not aware of this. what can i do? martin
