I think if you press the function key, control, option and left or right arrow
it will take you to the top or bottom of your messages.

Thanks.

Hi,
Please know that I am very new to using my Mac and mail on it. But, here's what
I am doing to read my mail.
I open the mail program and simply use the arrow keys to move through the
mailboxes (actually, I often use a letter key to skip directly to a mailbox
pressing the letter that is the
If it is then mine isn't because it will stay at the last message that I had
selected.

Hello Steve, on the subject of reading messages do you or anyone else for that
matter get the following. Note I am using the modern view but I have
conversation threading turned off.
In its simplest form lets say I have 12 messages and I have 10 unread. So when
I next open mail for some reason,
Thanks for the tip. I might do that some time. I don't mind this view but I
was mainly trying to keep the message from being marked read just because I
moved the VO cursor over it. Well, all mail user agents have some issue going
with them so Apple Mail is no exception. Anyway, I've found my
Hello Steve,
It seems to me that you would prefer Classic View for reading mail.
To choose this, open Mail Preferences (Command-Comma), interact with the
Toolbar and press VO-Space on the Viewing button. Then check the Classic Layout
box.
Close the preferences with Command-w and find the Horiz
I just figured out what is going on. If I turn VoiceOver curser tracking off
with VO+Shift+F3, I can then move up and down the list and if any unread
messages are present, I will then hear the "Unread" spoken. I'm convinced now
that Mail marks the currently select message as read even before w
The image is the unread thing except it won't say it. it will just be there
and be gone. in threaded and unthreaded convos.

Thanks for the quick reply. I don't quite catch what you mean by the image.
When I come into the message list, I never hear "Unread" for any single
unthreaded messages. Is this possibly caused by Mail marking the thing as
Unread as soon as it is selected by highlighting on the list? I really
Nope. because when the image goes away I know it's been read.
Take care.

Hi,
When interacting with the list of messages in a given mail box, I can't tell
when they are read or unread. I hear "Unread" on collapsed threads but nothing
on any other expanded or unthreaded subjects. Does anyone else experience
this?
I'm using latest version of Lion.
