No, he could use a standard windows based keyboard temporarily, or
permanently, just depending on his workflow, and if he wanted to or not.
It does work, actually. The only issue is like I said a second ago. Just
remember that on an apple keyboard you go: control, option, command space
bar.

Have you got a regular windows based USB keyboard? If you do, you can just use
it while you set things up, then unplug it once your other keyboard is paired.
Just remember if you go that route, on a windows based keyboard, your command
and option keys will be reversed. No big deal tho

and does not pass it on, which might be why your keystroke failed. You can use
option in conjunction with other modifier keys, but not by itself if you have
the keyboard commander enabled. Technically, you can choose
