Upon further investigation, what appears to be going on here is due to the
display sleep setting. So, in System Prefs, Energy Saver, there should be
sliders for both the computer and the display sleep settings. When the display
goes to sleep, whatever process is invoked must cause the
me thing on my mac book air.
If for instance I'm reading a pdf and step away for a minute the
"Authentication has new Window" comes up and blows away my position
where I was reading!

When you open a new window, navigate to the desired folder as usual.
To swap back and forth, use VO f2 f2.

Using Mountain Lion and Voice Over, how do I open a link on the NLS BARD
(digital talking book) web site? Voice Over recognizes links like the book
titles as both a link and a heading. I can activate the link directly but
haven't figured out how to get past the heading so that issuing

I just stopped Growl, and before that I removed Skype from its table of
applications for which it has set preferences, trying to get this to stop, and
that was before I updated Skype. The behavior hasn't changed from before the
update. I'll reboot with Growl up and the Skype references
the type of
notification style. If it keeps saying Skype has new window, it's set for
default notifications. You want to set this for Growl. then, you're set.

new window. If you use VO-F1 (twice) and then select Adium you should

possibility that the window is a transient window that disapears
