upgrading ram?

2011-06-16 Thread KliphSharrie

I've heard good things about crucial.com. And went there yesterday to price
some ram, mine Imac came with 4 gigs of ram, but is expandable to 16 gigs. I
can get the editional 12 gigs for only 120 bucks. Considering what I've seen
in the apple store, and best buy doesn't even carry what I need, I think I'm
going to jump on this. Plust it comes with a life time worentee.. And if
your not sure what your macbook pro or imac takes, it will safely scan your
system and tell you. Doesn't get much better than that. JMO HTH

Re: broadcast dj software!

2011-06-16 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi and thanks for the suggestion.
I've now downloaded and had a quick first glance at the software. They are 99%
there, because the keyboard managing is very good, however there are lots of
unknowns, some of which can be interacted with, revealing a lot of controls
that you can manipulate and others that you can't do a thing with.
Unfortunately it seems that all the sliders are defined in a non-standard way,
causing VO to announce them as unknown and you can't manage them with the
keyboard in the default configuration, however there's a page in the
preferences named keyboard setup where i assume you can set up verious
keyboard related aspects of the program, and maybe you can do things there.
There is a visual button to edit effects, but the effects themselves and their
controls can't be edited as far as i can see, might take a bit of fiddling
around to see how that works.
A couple tweaks here and there, and i think this will be a good alternative to
DJay.
One thing i noticed, however was that the keyboard shortcuts in Zulu seems much
more logical than in DJay. For example, increase volume by hitting v and
decrease it by pressing shift+v.
If other people have other things to report about this software, please do so.

Re: anyone fooled with the new Amadeus Pro II yet?

2011-06-16 Thread Krister Ekstrom
The big question is this: Have they as of yet implemented tha much needed scrub

start/stop points for editing? I really hope they have, since otherwise i don't
think it's worth upgrading.

version II, it's not going to be valid anymore. It would appear that you can
now do track editing in a way not possible before. Multiband noise reduction
is now claimed for it. For those of us needing the trem silence function to
determine that a drop in volume will effect whether or not recording is done,
that appears now to be claimed also. The thing I really like is this.
Where-as before, when ever you opened a Quicktime movie in Amadeus Pro and
edited it, you lost the video; well, now, the claim is that the video track
is retained. IF this is true, it makes for a way to use Amadeus Pro to
directly edit videos that we could not do accessibly before. All the menus
look accessible to me, and, so far as I can determine, the editing commands

I don't quite understand what you mean. I've alwys been able to easily find
the places I want to edit to cut things out or drop things in. The process of
editing, so far as I can tell, seems to be the same as before. The trem
silence still seems not to work; but, I love the new way you do voice over
insertion. It's a very simple dialog box now in the paste special section.
The fact that the video now gets preserved in the editing of .mov files alone
makes this upgrade worth the cost.

Re: anyone fooled with the new Amadeus Pro II yet?

2011-06-16 Thread Ray Foret Jr
But, Christer, IF you mean what I think you do, I just use the regular arrow
keys to instantly find the spot where I want to drop in a pece of audio.
then, I set a marker there. Then, I move to where I want the selection to end.
Then, just press command+y to rout the insertion point to the playback head.
At that point, you just press command+left to select back to the previous
marker which will be the marker at the beginning of the selection. Now, of
course, it would be much faster, in my opinion, if they would set it up so that
the insertion point tracks the playback head and you could use the left and
right bracket keys to drop beginning and ending markers. Also, another thing
I'd like to see is the ability to move to a marker and delete that marker
without having to go in to the modify markers manu. Still, not a bad editor.
As for a blind person not being able to shoot a video, PLEASE, I do it all the
time. If you know where the action is you want to shoot, and, you know where
your camera lens is, well, you can do it. Almost the same thing as knowing
where your mouth is and how to feed yourself. You just apply the same idea a
little differently.

But, Christer, IF you mean what I think you do, I just use the regular
arrow keys to instantly find the spot where I want to drop in a pece of
audio. then, I set a marker there. Then, I move to where I want the
selection to end. Then, just press command+y to rout the insertion point
to the playback head. At that point, you just press command+left to select
back to the previous marker which will be the marker at the beginning of
the selection. Now, of course, it would be much faster, in my opinion, if
they would set it up so that the insertion point tracks the playback head
and you could use the left and right bracket keys to drop beginning and
ending markers. Also, another thing I'd like to see is the ability to move
to a marker and delete that marker without having to go in to the modify
markers manu. Still, not a bad editor. As for a blind person not being
able to shoot a video, PLEASE, I do it all the time. If you know where the
action is you want to shoot, and, you know where your camera lens is, well,
you can do it. Almost the same thing as knowing where your mouth is and
how to feed yourself. You just apply the same idea a little differently.

Software update fails on MacBook

2011-06-16 Thread Daniel K. Gartmann

Hello,

Well, this is not strictly related to accessibility, but hope this
doesn't become too off-topic anyway.

I want to run software update on a MacBook running latest SnowLeopard

I tried repairing the disk permissions and restart the machine, but
still the same result.

Anybody got any hints as to what is happening here?

Thanks a million in advance.

So where do I go to connect my mac to my wireless router? And what choices do

Time update on network

2011-06-16 Thread .dan.

Does the mac os do a regular time update from the net to keep it's clock
current?

Does anyone know if there is a command for use in the terminal to do this?

Re: Help, my gmail email account's not syncing to my mac or Ipod

2011-06-16 Thread carolyn Haas
Hi Steph:
Well, Gmail's kind of like the weather at times. Wait a few minutes and it'll
change.:)

I've had things go odd like that. You might honestly leave it alone for a
couple hours and try again with differing results.

It could be anything from server issues, to the mighty cloud having hiccups, to
the lunar eclipse.:)

If it persists, I'd be interested to know what steps you're taking, and what's
different.

Re: network

2011-06-16 Thread carolyn Haas
Hi Clifton:
You can simply go into your status menu, with vo-shift-MM. Look for your
network's name, and vo-space on it. YOu should be prompted for your password
or wpa or WEP. Enter that and it should connect.

Re: Time update on network

2011-06-16 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Yes the MacOS will do a regular time synchronization with whatever NTP server
you have set it to. This is set in the Date Time System Pref in the regular
GUI. Anything that you can do with the GUI you can usually do in the Terminal,
so I would expect that there is but I'm not familiar with it. I'll look into
it and see what I can find.

Re: Time update on network

2011-06-16 Thread Jon Cohn
The MacOs has the standard UNIX suite of commands.

ntpdate - set the date from an NTP server.
ntpd - run an NTP server (requires a config file to list NTP peers to use Also
if you use ntpd you should ensure it gets autostarted via launch or rc init
files.
ntpdc and ntpq - commands to query and control ntp daemons both locally and
remotely.

I use to run ntpdc status 127.0.0.1 on login each morning to ensure my
Network of time peers were all behaving.

Re: junk mail

2011-06-16 Thread Jon Cohn
Are you having issues?

First of all there is not always a junk folder. By default the Mac just puts a
flag indicating the message is junk, but leaves it in the inbox.

However if you enabled the junk folder in your preferences then command-6
should open the folder. Note: however that GMAIL has a SPAM folder which is
not (by default) linked to your Junk folder on the Mac. If you want them
linked which might get confusing since both hte Mac and Google can put items
in the folder and learn correctly or incorrectly from each other what to
expect as Junk.

So if the previous sentence makes sense and you do want to link Google's SPAM
with Mail's junk then do the following.

1. Find the SPAM folder and select it.
2. from the Mailbox menu find Use this mailbox for and select junk.

After you do this there might be a new folder in your google account with the
messages you had marked as spam. It is also possible that the Mailbox
behavior section of the account preferences has an option dealing with
local/remote storing of junk.

Re: folders missing?

2011-06-16 Thread Jon Cohn
Ok, go into the mailbox list and listen for collapsed expand that folder and
see if the new one is there. By default MacMail puts the folder crated as a
sub-folder of the currently selected/opened Mail folder.

resetting password on my mac?

2011-06-16 Thread KliphSharrie
Okay, when I first set up my mac, it asked me for a password. Thought I would
never need it, but today I checked for software updates. And after finding
some, it wants the administrator password, that I can't remember. Is there an
easy way around this? Can I just turn off the password prompt and install the
updates? Or do I have to reset the password witch I probably should do for
future reference. Thanks in advance.

Amazon Web Store?

2011-06-16 Thread Brandon Olivares
Hi,

I just got an Amazon Web Store. However, I have found that a lot of it is
inaccessible with Voiceover. Does anyone have any tips for using it more
successfully?

I'm hoping they have some kind of API so I can develop my own interface with
it, but who knows. It's kind of frustrating.
