It's just a question of productivity.
I think the best idea agreed on unanimously by the list is to set up a
Boot Camp or VM environment and use that for Office and keep OS X for
audio applications and recording podcasts.

Seems a bit complex, and I don't know about File Vault. The idea is to use
MacID on iOS to unlock my Mac, but only when I lift the lid. I suppose I could
set the display to sleep when open, but have the Mac never sleep. I'd be okay
with that, unless OS X sees a dark screen as sleeping.

To get something that even comes close to this Mac on the PC I'd have to
spend quite a bit.

This way I'd get the productivity and still keep OS X around for

LaTeX, which someone else already mentioned. Essentially, LaTeX is a markup
language wherein you specify the formatting of your doc
