Hi, The SSD will actually make a huge difference. Since you already have 8 GB RAM, that's a good thing as well. I've put SSD's into quite a number of 2012 MBP's lately and the users have noticed huge improvements. With respect to installing Sierra on that machine, it's kind of your call.
