Hi everyone,
It sounds as if we have all had varying experiences with an reasons for
changing to a mac.
We all have different means of learning as well as different paces we learn.
I think also changing under any circumstances requires a major degree of
commitment that one must
Hi all
I bought my Macbook Pro in 2012 because I love what Apple has done to
the iOS platform and thought why not. I'm slowly but surely switching
full time so am ready for when my Windows 7 64 bit laptop dies. I
certainly think it was worth every penny, and thanks to this and other

Screen readers are complicated to learn. They require one to think very
differently about accessing computers. Newly blind people can easily spend
months learning the extremely different interface that the screen reader
provides. It is not at all intuitive. It requires an extreme amount of
Hi,
I have been using a mac full time now for about 3 or 4 years and There is not
one thing that I can not do on a mac that I could not do on a pc. The only
exception to the role is capcta, which I just use firefox and vinux4 to do so
that problem is salved. I do everything I want on my mac
I have been an access technology trainer, and I was intrigued with the idea of
the out-of-the-box accessibility of the Mac. I had been experimenting with
Linux distributions, but I was doing far more tweaking than I cared to. I had a
problematic Windows laptop, but was just starting to use NVDA
Hi there
I have used my husband's Windows computer like maybe three times since I
switched to my MacBook Pro in 2011. The first time was about two weeks after I
switched because I had something that had to get out like yesterday. Then twice
more I got on the Windows computer because I was
but what does this have to do with switching in all due respect?

Please read the message I responded to.
What it has to do with switching to the mac is, screen readers are complex and
complicated to learn, especially for someone who has never used a screen reader
before. That said, even most people who used screen readers on windows struggle
quite a bit

Hi,
As I have said, I am thinking about switching to the Mac and have been
trying to gather more information about it. To that end, I have been asking
specific questions. I will continue to do that but I would like some
general feedback from people who have made the switch from Windows to the
1. I switched because windows 7 was about to come out and I thought to myself,
If I've got to learn a whole new operating system and screen reader,
why not give the Mac a serious look instead of window-eyes or staying with
JAWS?

Well, I switched because I'd heard the voices, and read the guides, and wanted
to try voiceover. I really don't regret it, although I miss the games avalable
on windows.

Hello,
I switched to the Mac almost 3 years ago for several reasons. I was tired of
the SMA upgrades for windows based screen readers. I still own a Windows 7
machine, and would use it if I had to, yet fortunately I don't see that being
the case to this point. There were too many conflicts with
Hi:
I do not regret switching, and am looking at purchasing another Mac. I was
tired of crashing Windows, paying to upgrade Jaws, upgrade antivirus programs,
etc.

Hello Scott.
I switched to the Mac because I had a row with Sight and Sound, the only dealer
in the UK who sells Jaws. At that particular time, I was using windows XP, or
Windows 7, can't remember. Anyway, what ever the operating system, I was
losing ILM Lives for Jaws and I must have made a
I totally agree with the last point. I don't think Microsoft has added a real
feature to Windows in, many years. I've been using Windows since, uh, 4th
grade? Third? And nothing is truly different. Yeah yeah, you got the start
screen and the charm bar and all, but they're really just
Hello,
I thought of another thought provoking and conceivably decision-making reason
as to why one should or should not change to the Mac.
Go in to any electronics store that sells windows laptops. You will find their
prices a little more impulsive and easier to stomach than you would when
I switched in 2012 because I was tired of paying 200 dollars a year (I'm
Canadian) for standard jaws software maintenance agreements. I also support a
company who puts accessibility into their products.

I wanted to give the Mac a try, and I liked the iOS syncing. In 2011 I got a
Mac Mini, and my only regret is not getting a Macbook straight away so I could
take it with me. I find the Mac more convenient, stable, and usable. However,
if you do a lot with MS Office for productivity, you may miss
the same on the Mac.
