need to remove and reinstall the pitman arm to get the steering wheel

tap. When the tap hits the bottom of the hole, it will draw the bushing

Are you sure it is not overflow from refueling. The overflow hose runs
out the bottom. Notice the small hole in the bottom of the refueling
area behind the gas flap. It connects to a drain hose.

Something must wear. If not the pad and shoes; the rotors and drums will
wear. The whole point of a pad or shoe is to have something
sacrificial that is easily replaced. I prefer replacing pads and shoes
to rotors and drums.

Have you tried wiggling the ignition key a bit? Sometimes if you turn it
back about 10 degrees, it will make contact with the accessory lead if
the electrical portion of the switch ist kaput.
