The Studebaker Landcruiser, and the Hudson 4door, were the smoothest riding
cars of the late 40s and 50s. BIL bought new Studes regularly beginning with a
used pickup after WW-2. The last ones he bought were the sedan which had the
propeller on the front, and then a smaller Stude with a V-8 which was so fast
he sold it before his son began driving and bought a Chevy 4-door. I don't
remember what it was called.

G: Naw. I was just curious where the local manufacturer of the guns was selling
them, and just how well made they were. I'm not a gun guy except to the extent
that they are useful and popular "machines" which can have unique designs which
is true of the AK47s.

Re: [MBZ] OT - SKS - Which is the Best?

2018-01-27 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes
Has anyone heard anything good or bad about AK47s made in Florida?

http://money.cnn.com/2016/01/27/news/companies/kalashnikov-florida-factory/index.html

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/politics/political-pulse/os-gun-factory-florida-20170319-story.html

As noted in the above link, the AK-47 factory has links to "Purple Shovel" in
Tampa which probably has foreign markets for its guns, and might indicate that
the guns are of acceptable quality.

http://www.purpleshovel.com/

https://steemit.com/weapons-smuggling/@v4vapid/purple-shovel-exposed-in-illegal-weapons-smuggling-operation

It's claimed that AK47s are not very accurate, but I wonder since they are
supposedly the most popular gun worldwide.

Comment?

That's interesting since it uses tannic acid to convert rust to iron tannate.
IIRC the old method used phosphoric acid to convert rust, but that didn't hold

This one isn't rusty, it's just stuck. Stuff rusts in Florida, what with the
high humidity in the long summers, but since we don't salt the roads, metal
doesn't rust like it does in the far north.

BTW, do you know the name of that really good anti-rust paint I've read about

getting a little rusty.

I tried that on some very rusty parts with no luck, but since these brake parts
are not rusty, it might work better. Still have a small bottle with the mixture
in it, but since the acetone might be exaporated, I'll mix up a fresh batch and
try it.

Commercial roof trusses are notorious for collapsing when you put heavy items
in the attic, so I followed RBs suggestion and glued and nailed all the
vulnerable joints with roofing ply fishplates. I put about 500 to a 1000 lbs of
heavy stuff in the middle of the attic and measured the floor to ceiling
height. About a month later the ceiling had only sagged one eigth inch.

Apparently all you are getting is a handful of base and angle plates and a set
of plans.
You can buy the plates pretty cheap at Lowes or Home Depot, and there may be
free plans that you like better here:

https://www.google.com/search?client=opera=garden+shed+plans+using+base+and+angle+plates=opera=UTF-8=UTF-8

If you like to do carpentry this would be a good project.

The picture of the kit shows what appears to be a concrete slab for a floor.
In some areas that can be expensive.
My preference would be a treated plywood floor sitting on spaced blocks since
that tends to keep crawling insects out, but a concrete floor would provide
easier access for heavy equipment on wheels. I would use nothing but treated
wood for several reasons.
Good luck,
Gerry

Yep, that's undoubtedly the cause. Strange things happen when the weather gets
this cold.
For example, years ago during a similar very cold winter, I bought a CB radio
from a Canadian who had just arrived from Quebec. I plugged it into my
cigarette lighter jack but it wouldn't work. The Canadian said that it would
work but needed a few hours to get acclimated to the Florida climate.

That sounded like nonsense to me, but it was a good brand of CB radio and the
poor guy was sweating with the temperature in the 30s, so I figured he really
needed money and buying his CB would be the neighborly thing to do.

I took it home, plugged it in, and went to bed.
The middle of the night I started dreaming that I was in a French cafe where
everyone was speaking French and I couldn't even order an aperitif.

Finally I woke up and realized that it was the CB. Even the CB talk in Quebec
had frozen up and was just now thawing out.

Come to think of it, I have heard Floridians called Flaw-idions, but usually we
old Floridians are just called Geezers. We like that since it sets us apart and
commands respect due to our ability at sports; shuffleboard, golf, and other
less strenuous games. We do have a powerful organization call "Geezer
Advancement Society" (GAS) which looks out for our interests. If a business
place descriminates against us Geezers, a large group of us can go in there and
do our thing, and I gaurantee we will empty the place.

Curt can sit on the bike; he's tough. Maine people are immune to cold wind.

BTW, what do you call someone from Maine? Wisconsinites are cheeseheads, people
from Ohio are Buckeyes, Hoosiers live in Indiana; but New Englanders don't seem

All of my recent group 49 batteries have vent tubes. I've never had a problem
with rusted trays. The AGM batteries have vent tubes too.
About 2 months ago I bought an AGM from Advance Auto which was made in Korea
and cost about $180. I didn't bother with the discount since I was in a hurry.
We'll see how it holds up.

By coincidence there is a battery discussion going on at PTS (Prius Technical

Re: [MBZ] 49 Battery

2018-01-09 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes
Here's what Wiki say about AGM's FWIW:

"AGM & Gel VRLA batteries:
Have shorter recharge time than flooded lead-acid.
Cannot tolerate overcharging: overcharging leads to premature failure.
Have shorter useful life, compared to properly maintained wet-cell battery.
Discharge significantly less hydrogen gas.
AGM batteries are by nature, safer for the environment, and safer to use.
Can be used or positioned in any orientation.

I use an AGM in my Prius, but I would never use one in my diesel cars since the
AGMs are more easily damaged. For example, if you leave something on and run
the AGM down, you can't charge at more than 4 amps without shortening its life.
Also, I vaguely recall someone on the Prius website complaining that the AGM in

Around here in West Central Florida a wild hog can rip a dog or a person to
pieces with its sharp tusks. The trained "boar dogs" will grab a hog by it's
ears so it can't gore them with its tusks, and another will grab its throat or
hold it while the hunter shoots it.
Wild hogs are not like domestic pigs. They are built more like dogs and can run
like dogs; very dangerous. Your only escape from a wild hog that's chasing you
is to go up a tree or the bed of a pickup truck if you're not armed.
Since boar meat around here can taste "gamey", most of it is ground into
sausage. It's some of the best sausage I've ever eaten.

[MBZ] Front brake calipers

I'm replacing the front calipers on my '83 240D.
However, Autozones catalog shows 12 kinds/makes of front calipers: steel

What happened to his Indy? All he needs to do is get him to test it, and if
it's bad, put in a new one. If he can make an appointment to get it done, he
won't need to leave it and get a ride home and then back the next day. Putting
in a new one can be a messy and difficult job in icy weather; even for a DIYer.

We saw the first and maybe the second Bond movie. The one I remember had him
driving a (Triumph?) around that had some sort of auger that came out and
ruptured an evildoers tire. He complained about the many mechanical problems
the car had which seemed strange in a movie.

Does anyone read the current daily newspaper comics? A couple of strips about
kids takes me back since they are so typical of some of the grade school kids
of 80 years ago when I went to grade school. Batman and Superman were the movie
heros of that era, as well as a number of actors in the many Western movies. A
kid could go to movies for a dime on Saturday matinee; 15 cents any other time.

My '83 300D (same drivetrain as yours), which also doesn't get driven much,
does the same thing. It sort of "hammers" and shakes the engine at idle in any

Very good!
I didn't know MB starters/batteries were built for such long cranking.

One more question: How much fuel should the engine be given during a long
cranking session? I've found that just a little more fuel than the idle amount
seemed to work best using any procedure. Comment?

Re: [MBZ] Subject: Re: Secret message for Randy

2017-12-29 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes
Results

Briefly: Being over 70, the complication rate for your GF's mom would roughly
be 7.6% which is very low. Surprisingly the complication rate for someone less
than 70 years would roughly be twice as much (15.1%).

Among 574 patients with a permanent pacemaker, 259 patients (45.1%) were below
and 315 patients (54.9%) were above or at 70 years of age. There were 240
(92.7%) and 19 (7.3%) dual-chamber pacemaker (DDD) and single-chamber pacemaker
(VVI) implanted patients in the younger group, and 291 (76.8%) and 73 (23.2%)
DDD and VVI pacemaker implanted patients in the elderly group, respectively.
The complication rate was 39 (15.1%) out of 259 young patients and 24 (7.6%)
out of 315 elderly patients. Postprocedural complications were statistically
lower in the elderly patients than in younger patients (P = 0.005).

Conclusion

A pacemaker implantation performed by an experienced operator is a safe
procedure for patients of advanced age. The patients who are above 70 years old
may have less complication rates than the younger patients.

Re: [MBZ] Secret message for Randy

It's certainly worked well around here most years, and it seems to be working
well this year since no one in my extended family has had a cold other than my
son who lives in Orlando, as well as the people I see in public. Orlando is
where I caught a severe cold last year which almost turned in to pneumonia. I
think the reason people seem to have more severe colds in Orlando is because
it's an international city with people flying in from all over the world
continuously.
They might be bringing new variants of flu viruses in that are not included in
the American and European flu shots.
There are several factors at play in any kind of infection. A dominant factor
is the condition of a persons immune system.
When the flu shot doesn't prevent a cold; it can be the antibodies your immune
system makes in reaction to the flu shot that prevents colds. If a persons
immune system is not as strong as it should be, the flu shot can be ineffective.

My trucking neighbor got in the trucking business by buying a truck from a
truck line and then leasing it to that truckline. I wonder if any trucklines
would be interested in buying your truck or knowing someone who wants to buy a
truck and lease it to them?

IIRC a big truck engine has a narrow rpm range, so it seems that a transmission
with even more speeds would allow more economical runs, especially through the
mountains with heavy loads??? Do they make transmissions with more than 13
speeds nowadays?

Wildwood truck stop has a lot of ads posted for used trucks and trailers. Truck
stops might be another place to advertise. There were also publications that
list trucks as well as other equipment where you could run an ad.

Here I was going down a city street with no steering, or so I first thought. If
I held down with considerable force on the steering wheel, the car would turn
right but only turning left enough to keep driving straight ahead while pushing
down hard on the steering wheel. I managed to get back to the shop by making
nothing but right turns and installed a steering gear and column from a
junkyard. That '56 station wagon was my last Chevy.

[MBZ] Cell Phones can be dangerous

2017-12-19 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes
"(25 March 2017, Mexico) Standing on a truck on an airport runway, our
Double-Darwin Award Winners Nitzia and Clarissa chose a regrettable location
for a cell phone selfie. Ms. Corral, 18, and Ms. Miranda, 17, were attending
horse races that were held on a track adjacent to the runway. According to the
Diario de Chíhuahua, the noise of the races and the desire for a new profile
picture distracted the young women. They did not hear the motor of the
descending aircraft, and the wing of the small plane struck and killed them
instantly

The 2017 Darwin Awards are out:

Re: [MBZ] 240D Starter

2017-12-17 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes
There are components that are more expensive than batteries which could send a
Prius to the junkyard. The batteries are rebuildable since they are composed of
many separate cells that can be replaced for roughly $45 each and then
carefully balanced. The usual life expectancy of the cars is probably 250,000
up, but I'm just guessing. One of the best information sources is
Priuschat.com, and there are also useful sites in Canada and other foreign
countries.
I don't remember what kind of batteries the version ones had, but the version
two's like mine had nicads, the same type rechargeable batteries that you can
buy at the drugstore. Some or all later versions have NiMH I think.
These are finicky little cars with a lot of gotchas. Put the wrong fluid in
something under the hood and you've just made a several thousand dollar mistake.

Re: [MBZ] 240D Starter

2017-12-16 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes

Except for the "dry type" batteries like the Prius uses, I've never had a
battery that covers couldn't be pried off of that exposed the cells and allowed
the use of a hydrometer and the addition of water; and I've never had one that
the covers couldn't be pushed or tapped back on.
I can understand why stores don't want their clerks dealing with sulfuric acid
solution, and would rather replace batteries than open them, but for DIYers, I
think a hydrometer could save a lot of time and trouble.
The last battery I bought had no visible electrolyte in one cell when I checked
it after driving home. I took it back and told the manager.
He refused to even look at the cell and said if the battery goes bad, he'll
replace it.
I guessed that the factory had put in the acid but not the water since the
battery likely wouldn't have started the car if they had added the water but
not the acid, so I went home and filled the cell with distilled water. It's
been a few years and the battery is still working well.

I don't understand why seemingly no one uses a sp.gr. hydrometer anymore.
It has solved so many problems for me, I wouldn't be without it.
The plastic type are okay when they are new, but I still prefer the all glass
and rubber models such as this $11 model:

I'm still learning the various systems catch as catch can, so I may be wrong on

The little battery, 12v, runs nearly everything but the electric A/C. It is
charged by a large liquid cooled inverter (they call it a converter) that drops
about 200v from the big battery down to 14v which charges the little 12v
battery. Since the little battery runs the computers, the spark
plugs, everything needed to run the ICE which charges the big battery, brake
boost, steering assist, and various other things needed to actually drive the
car; you can't turn the car off and then start it again if the little battery
is dead or won't take enough of a charge from another cars battery via cables
to start the car.

 I would have thought you

G: I thought the same thing when I was thinking about buying the car, but all
you can do if the ICE quits is maybe limp at a very low speed to the next exit
or until the big battery is drained which doesn't take long.
I don't think the little battery will ever shut off the car such as in the
middle of traffic while the converter is feeding voltage since the converter
and the little battery are in parallel. As long as the car is "on" you could
theoretically completely remove the little battery and the car should run
indefinitely as long as you didn't shut it off, but I don't know if that would
be possible. The car wasn't designed with any provision for switching from the
ICE to battery. One reason is that the big battery is entirely different from
the batteries that power the all electric cars.
P.S. New big batteries come from the dealers, but you can buy rebuilts for a
little more than half price. New big batteries can last ten years or longer.
Mine is ten years old and shows no sign of failing.

G: The pedal went half way down to the floor, there was no leaking brake fluid
that I could see, and the reservoir was still full. Could I be wrong about
that? Yep, sure could, but the MC is pretty old and probably wouldn't last much
longer anyway, and I'd need expert help from the listers here to figure out
what caused it other than the MC.

G: AFAIK All cars nowadays have two circuits; one stops the front wheels and
the other stops the back wheels. When one fails the pedal will go half way down
and the car won't stop as well. I've forgotten how the master cylinder is
designed to do that since I've just replaced the whole master cylinders for
years.

Thanks, Rick. I'll keep that in mind. Could have used it a couple weeks ago

No calcium supplements?
Gerry

"CONCLUSION:
Hypocalcaemia occurs frequently after TKA (total knee arthroplasty), however,
clinical symptoms associated with hypocalcaemia are rare. The calcium ion is an
important electrolyte, neurotransmitter and blood coagulation factor. It is
suggested that we should routinely monitor calcium ion levels during the
perioperative period and deal with hypocalcaemia in a timely fashion.

I clicked on the 30 day Prime trial. At the end of the 30 days Amazon billed my
credit card $100 for Prime without my permission. I don't go to the trouble of
trying to get my money back from these sorts of racketeers, so I'm thinking of
just ordering the heaviest possible items I normally buy at stores; probably
foodstuffs, canned good, oil, etc.
Does Prime pay the freight on foodstuffs?

In case anyone on the list didn't know, Verizon bought Yahoo, or parts of
Yahoo, earlier this year; and for the past month or so Yahoogroups has been a
mess, and still is.
I'm wondering if those who are having problems on this list are using any
products of Verizon or Yahoo, or just have them on their cellphones or
computers?

IIRC someone on this list years ago had the same or similar problem.
He used the rough side of one of those kitchen sponges which is sort of like
steel wool but is made of plastic. He kept it very wet and tried to rub it only
on the paint to be removed. I seem to remember that he used rubbing compound
afterward, waxed it, and it turned out well. YMMV.

My guess would be that he was Puerto Rican. Since Puerto Ricans can come and go
to the U.S. and move here if they so desire IIRC, they may be subject to the
same rights and requirements as U.S. citizens. Puerto Rico is a territory of
the U.S., isn't it?

[MBZ] Raw Milk. was: Heart peoblems

FWIW: Drinking raw milk or eating products made from raw milk, is a calculated
risk. Dairies are kept much cleaner now than when milk borne illnesses were
endemic before pasteurization, so the risk may be less nowadays.
Salmonella, E.Coli, and Listeria are not nice bacteria.

The 14 ft ceiling in the bath gives it away. We all know Rich is something of a
joker. His bath has a 14 ft ceiling so that when someone is bending over after
a bath, he sneaks in and gives him/her the Trump salute, and the victim goes
straight up, he/she won't bang his/her head on the ceiling. There's no other
reason for having a 14 ft ceiling in a bathroom.

[MBZ] OT: Navy Derringdo

2017-11-17 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes

Navy flyboy flings firmament phallus for flabbergasted folk

Highway to the donger zone

A US navy pilot in an F/A-18 GROWLER is facing stiff action – after crafting a
novel flight pattern that left much of central Washington state staring up at
an anatomy lesson.

The offending artist flew out of the Whidbey Island air station Thursday
morning and deliberately painted the sky over the city of Okanogan with the ol'
twig-n-berries.

Look, we'll stop beating about the bush: they drew a giant cock in the air. It
isn't a bird, it isn't just a plane, it's a super dong, too.

Residents seemed to take the sky-scribble stroke of genius in their stride,
with one mother telling the Spokesman-Review her 12-year-old son alerted her to
the pilot's masterwork. "I thought it was pretty funny, and so did he. A lot of
people have been talking about it," she said.

Unfortunately, the military's top brass, funnily enough, didn't care for the
thrusting flight pattern, and are taking a rather hard stance. Officials argued
that being able to control a multimillion-dollar war machine to trace out a
giant mural of one's wedding tackle in the heavens isn't actually that amusing.

In a statement to The Register on Friday, a navy spokesperson said:

US Navy air crew, flying an F/A-18 Growler (Electronic Attack Aircraft)
assigned to Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 130 based at Naval Air Station
Whidbey Island, Wash., flew an air pattern over Okanogan County, Wash., on
Thursday, Nov. 16, that left a condensed air trail resembling an obscene image
to observers on the ground.

The Officers and Sailors of the United States Navy are professionals, held to
the highest standards, while serving our nation with pride around world. The
actions of this aircrew were wholly unacceptable and antithetical to Navy core
values. We have grounded the aircrew and are conducting a thorough
investigation - and we will hold those responsible accountable for their
actions. The Navy apologizes for this irresponsible and immature act.

The Navy apologizes to anyone who was offended by this unacceptable action.

An investigation into this flight will be conducted and if appropriate, the
aviator(s) responsible will be held accountable.

Yeah, and if they pull off a stunt like this again, they'll be flying a cargo
plane full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong – no, wait, that's Top Gun.

Far be it from us to tell the United States Navy how to go about its business,
but there does seem to be a valid point to be made that this pilot may have
been merely training for a career with NASA's extraterrestrial exploration team.

Wife selected (Corian?) when we built this house 22 years ago. It's held up
better than Formica and essentially still looks like new. It gives the
impression of marble but seems to be impervious to stains and rough treatment.
Granite is great for tombstones, but I can't see the practicality of it being
used for countertops.

Best of luck, Kaleb. There are 2.7 MILLION! heart caths done each year in the
U.S. and problems are rare. They are the most common procedures done in
American hospitals. Statistically the biggest risk you will be taking is
driving to and from the hospital.
Just be sure and follow the doctors orders exactly after you go home as well as
in the hospital. If you don't you can have serious problems.

The Prii around here are mostly driven by old people, and there is so little
traffic compared to bigger counties, I haven't heard or read about any road
rage incidents involving Prii, and I've never seen one exceeding the speed
limit.
The only time I poke along is after midnight when there is virtually no traffic.

I've used both an open and closed end wrench. I washed both the bolt and the
wrench with a strong solvent such as brake cleaner so there would be no oil or
grease, cut a piece of masking or similar sticky tape to fit one side of the
wrench, wrapping it down over the sides of the wrench if possible, then stuck
the bolt head in the open side and stuck it firmly to the tape.
I hoped to get one thread caught, but if not, I would change the position of
the bolt head in the wrench and try again.
Nowadays I'd buy a "rachet end wrench" (I think I saw them at Lowes) and try
using them with the tape like above. I've had to grind end wrenches down pretty
thin to get into some tight places when I was repairing hospital and lab
equipment.

Why isn't the world famous Prius on that list?
In my opinion Prius is one of the safest cars on the road for one principal
reason: We Prius drivers drive slowly and carefully. You'll often see a dozen
cars behind a Prius, fuming because they can't drive as fast as they want. As
soon as the road widens they go speeding by; shaking their fists at us slow and
careful Prius drivers. Almost inevitable, you'll see two or more of those
angry drivers involved in a crash on down the road and it's their own fault. If
they had driven slowly and carefully like us Prius drivers they wouldn't have
had an accident.

I "could" work on my front porch, Bob, but I'd have to drive over a lot of
shrubbery to do it. I'd prefer to work in nearly every DIY mechanics dream; a
heated / air conditioned personal shop.
When I retired I had a contractor build the shell of such a shop about 100 ft
behind the house, I finished it out myself as a passive solar building, and its
been great for the past 20+ years. Before retirement I worked for years on my
carport, which wasn't bad, but having a place inside is a big advantage.

My only regret is that I didn't build it bigger since about a third of the shop
is a tiny apartment with toilet, shower, frig, microwave, bed and work benches
for small stuff; electronics, computers, and such.

My wish is that you, and everyone on the list who wants one, has that sort of
shop eventually.
Gerry

It's pretty common for husbands to have a lot more spats with their wives after
retirement since they're together full time, and I was no different.
When the marital atmosphere turned chilly; maybe I got a spot of grease on her
precious 240D; I would "live" in the shop for a day or two, and after that she
would be sweet again.

The thing to do if you are concerned about having the cath is to get a second
opinion. Most insurance companies will pay for a second opinion since they are
far cheaper than a surgical procedure.

[MBZ] Tip of the Icebergs

2017-11-05 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes

Paradise Papers leak reveals secrets of the world elite's hidden wealth

Files from offshore law firm show financial dealings of the Queen, big
multinationals and members of Donald Trump’s cabinet

What are the Paradise Papers? – video

The world’s biggest businesses, heads of state and global figures in politics,
entertainment and sport who have sheltered their wealth in secretive tax havens
are being revealed this week in a major new investigation into Britain’s
offshore empires.

The details come from a leak of 13.4m files that expose the global environments
in which tax abuses can thrive – and the complex and seemingly artificial ways
the wealthiest corporations can legally protect their wealth.

The material, which has come from two offshore service providers and the
company registries of 19 tax havens, was obtained by the German newspaper
Süddeutsche Zeitung and shared by the International Consortium of Investigative
Journalists with partners including the Guardian, the BBC and the New York
Times.

The project has been called the Paradise Papers. It reveals:

Millions of pounds from the Queen’s private estate has been invested in a
Cayman Islands fund – and some of her money went to a retailer accused of
exploiting poor families and vulnerable people.

EXTENSIVE OFFSHORE DEALINGS BY DONALD TRUMP'S CABINET MEMBERS, ADVISERS AND

DONORS, INCLUDING SUBSTANTIAL PAYMENTS FROM A FIRM CO-OWNED BY VLADIMIR PUTIN'S

SON-IN-LAW TO THE SHIPPING GROUP OF THE US COMMERCE SECRETARY,WILBUR ROSS.

A previously unknown $450m offshore trust that has sheltered the wealth of
Lord Ashcroft.
Aggressive tax avoidance by multinational corporations, including Nike and
Apple.
How some of the biggest names in the film and TV industries protect their
wealth with an array of offshore schemes.
The billions in tax refunds by the Isle of Man and Malta to the owners of
private jets and luxury yachts.
The secret loan and alliance used by the London-listed multinational
Glencore in its efforts to secure lucrative mining rights in the Democratic
Republic of the Congo.
The complex offshore webs used by two Russian billionaires to buy stakes in
Arsenal and Everton football clubs.

The disclosures will put pressure on world leaders, including Trump and the
British prime minister, Theresa May, who have both pledged to curb aggressive
tax avoidance schemes.

The publication of this investigation, for which more than 380 journalists have
spent a year combing through data that stretches back 70 years, comes at a time
of growing global income inequality.

Meanwhile, multinational companies are shifting a growing share of profits
offshore – €600bn in the last year alone – the leading economist Gabriel Zucman
will reveal in a study to be published later this week.

“Tax havens are one of the key engines of the rise in global inequality,” he
said. “As inequality rises, offshore tax evasion is becoming an elite sport.”

At the centre of the leak is Appleby, a law firm with outposts in Bermuda, the
Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands, the Isle of Man, Jersey and
Guernsey. In contrast to Mossack Fonseca, the discredited firm at the centre of
last year’s Panama Papers investigation, Appleby prides itself on being a
leading member of the “magic circle” of top-ranking offshore service providers.

It acted for the establishment offshore, providing the structures that helped
to legally reduce their tax bills.

Appleby says it has investigated all the allegations, and found “there is no
evidence of any wrongdoing, either on the part of ourselves or our clients”,
adding: “We are a law firm which advises clients on legitimate and lawful ways
to conduct their business. We do not tolerate illegal behaviour.”

Re: [MBZ] bow ties,

Somebody should be able to find something here that could be fastened or sewn
on the tie:

https://www.google.com/search?q=mercedes+logo+pin=isch=iu=m=1=ksCk_eaPUb2ADM%253A%252CcsDu4WGdO3fHyM%252C_=__gcbe6dv3SBxjOxvJ0mcsATFA9rA%3D=X=0ahUKEwiKscLXt6DXAhXE5iYKHdMsA-MQ9QEIVTAF#imgrc=ksCk_eaPUb2ADM:

Personally I'd just get one of the pins (tie tacs?) and fasten in on the bow
ties knot or even on one of "wings" so long as it didn't make it droop.

There "is" a definite way but it can be pretty cruel.

A "high society lady", who lived in a small town, decided to pitch a party for
the other "high society" folks. She sent her part time maid out in the woods
behind the house to pick mushrooms for a dish she was preparing for the party.
After the dish was cooked she put some of it in the food dish for Old Spot, the
"backyard dog", to be sure none of the mushrooms were poisonous.

That evening the meal was served to her guests and she received many
compliments on the mushroom casserole.

She had, however, forgotten to check on Spot so she asked the maid.

"He's dead", said the maid.

The lady went into a panic, told everyone the mushrooms must have been
poisonous, and called the towns doctors who rushed out with stomach pumps.

After all the guests stomachs had been pumped and they had left in a dark mood,
the maid came into the kitchen and said, "You know, ma'am, that car that hit
Old Spot didn't even slow down."

Still, feeding questionable mushrooms to a dog is a pretty good test of whether
they are poisonous or not IMO.

After I saw that ranitidine 150 mg worked, I would try 75 mg to see if that
worked.

The first thing I would do would be to make an appt with a gastroenterologist
since the symptoms seem strange. A heliobacter pylori infection, which can
cause gerd, can also cause stomach cancer.

https://www.google.com/search?client=opera=bacterium+that+causes+gerd=opera=UTF-8=UTF-8

If the doctor prescribed Nexium or Prevacid or similar drugs, I would ask for a
ranitidine 150 mg prescription since it doesn't have the most serious side
effects of the others.

That's what I would do. I'm not suggesting that you do the same, however, since
"practicing medicine without a license" could cost me my lab rat licence and I
might need it again if the government guts social security any more than they
have already by eliminating COLA.
Good luck,
Gerry

Maybe the same as the 2017 Camry which has a grill thats reminiscient of the
cow-catchers on the old steam train engines. Makes one wonder what they were
smoking.
However, if you hit a small deer with that thing, it might stick there instead
of coming up into the windshield.

https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/toyota/camry/2017/photos-exterior

Add to that the current scandal over the steel that is used in cars, airplanes,

Re: [MBZ] Not much love for '60 or '71 vintage Fiats

2017-10-10 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes

During the 1940s-50s a neighbor in a student trailer park had a little Italian
sports car which had no problems other than headgaskets. This was the days when
torque wrenches were rare and you could pull down a head on nearly any American
car using two fingers on the end of a breakover handle. I put a head gasket on
the Italian car using the two finger method but it soon began leaking. I told
him to find a mechanic or shop that had a torque wrench and that solved his
problem. It was a valve-in-block engine, so it wasn't a big job. I don't
remember what make it was but I don't think it was a Fiat although it could
have been. It was fun to drive and you could keep up with nearly any sports car
on a winding road with sharp curves.

There were several other small sports cars that raced together around Florida;
Triumphs, Morgans, MGs, and others. I don't remember there being any Mercedes
or other European sports cars in that group, however.
