After I used it 15-20 times it failed, one side tried to close from pop-up while the other side jammed. Took me an hour or two to disassemble it far enough to close it so it didn't whistle. I don't use pop-up sunroofs much after that, and I'll never pop one up again. Well, since most of us never bought the MB new, we don't have choices about sunroofs. Personally, I like the sunroof, especially the tilt up ones in 124 and 126. If I had a choice between identical cars, one with and one without sunroof, I'd still pick the sunroof. The problem now is that money is so tight that I don't dare open one for fear of something breaking. 'ZACKLY, and charge us a helluva lota money for the "privilege." As I absorbed the collective knowledge on the W220 from the Benz World forum, I found it somewhat humorous that the W220 suffers from similar maladies. In the case of this car, you realize the rear drains are blocked when water starts pouring out of the back seat (ceiling) mirrors/reading lights. Re: [MBZ] 123 swimming pool
I was able to diagnose my 124 sunroof woe using a garden hose, after the interior of the car was dry and I had removed the carpet. I played water all over the front windshield and cowling, checked for water, sprayed the passenger side doors, checked again, and then sprayed the roof and finally had water. If you can find the bottom outlet of each drain, you can run weed wacker cord (melt the end into a nice ball) or an old speedometer cable up and probably clear the drain, while simultaneously watering the sunroof (closed) and maybe fix the issue without opening the sunroof. I know where all the drains exit on a 124, but that doesn't help you. - Max Charleston SC ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] 123 swimming pool
Pour water into the (open) roof slowly and check to see how fast it drains (all four corners). The front wheel arches have a cover that needs to be removed (half a dozen machine screws) to get at the gunk that accumulates from the front drains. But if your wet area is in the back it's more likely the rear s/r drains are slow/blocked. On Thu, Jun 25, 2015 at 11:46 PM, Curly McLain via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > Front is dry. Front is dry. Before the new windshield and gasket, it peed on your left leg while driving in rain. Yes, check every where. Especially the S/R drains. Is it wet at all in the front? [MBZ] 123 swimming pool
Ok, it is not really that bad, but in the recent torrential downpours, I am getting water in the driver side rear footwell. I don't remember getting that before, but maybe it did happen. The car was stored inside for years. Anyhow, the car has a new windshield and gasket, so I don't think it is the front windshield. I'll likely try to see if I can get the sunroof open and check clean drains. It could also be a leak from the rear glass. I had that in my 110 for years. the first time it was from the trunk hinge drains. on the second 110 it was the rear glass gasket. Anyone BTDT? is the sunroof the right place to look? Or should I try clearing the trunk hinge drains first? Been avoiding the sunroof because I don't want any of the fiddly parts to break and cause a great cash outlay. It probably has not opened for 10 yrs.
