Yesterday being the good son I swapped the snowblower for the lawnmower deck on
my dad's little 2014 John Deere. Everything went pretty well but after 2 laps
of the yard it ate the belt. Well poo, that was supposed to be a quick job.
NAPA was open and had a belt, I also grabbed a gallon of Turbo
Were that it were only the carb!
I got back to SEA last night and it was too dark to make out the mess that four
weeks of unattended lawn growth was going to be found in the morning. Last
home visit I was confronted with almost waist high grass after near five months
of absence. I came right
Cool. Ya gotta love it. Not worth the effort to crack it open.

So I drained nearly 3/4 of a gallon of gas out of the crank case then
filled it with oil. I pulled the spark plug and gas poured out of it.
Cranked it over with the plug out and blew the rest of the gas out. Put
the plug back in and engine now turns over and sounds fine but still
wont
As it turns out he installed a fuel shutoff valve because he was having
problems with fuel draining into the crank case when it sets. So what he would
do is close the valve then let it run till it ran out of fuel. I’m wondering if
the last time he used it he forgot to shut the valve. In any
Exactly. Happened to my edger. Yes; replace oil. You can get a carb rebuild
kit that includes the rubber washer that seals against the needle valve but
replacing the carb (with new) is a better option, IMO. Google mower model or
look on eBay. I rebuilt twice before I replaced the whole
Stuck float, debris in the needle seat area, etc, would pour it in until the
fuel level was below the carburetor.

My father had this small 13.5hp Craftsman riding lawn mower. When he

In the past I have been able to take off the rewind coil anf reload a new

direction. . I have repaced springs on them too. also lube pulley if it
seems to be dragging the string.
No need to torque head bolts.
YMMV
