Error: FD#40
Hi all, Due to the pressure of releasing the FutureDisk BEFORE Tilburg, we stupidly made 2 minor errors on the disk. Because of these errors you cannot read the Dutch 'Nawoord' and the English 'Emulator Corner' (the menu points to the wrong file). THIS PROBLEM CAN BE CORRECTED! Just surf to the news section of our homepage: http://hagen.let.rug.nl/~s0957372/news.htm Follow the instructions and everything will be solved. If you do not have an internet connection, you can rest at easy, as there will also be a patch on the next FutureDisk. Re: Speed difference between disk formatted on PC and MSX
shevek wrote: I was saying that the analogy with gaps was not correct. A gap contains bytes just like sectors do, altough the values of the bytes are not used to store data. Making gaps bigger doesn't change the amount of magnetic disk surface reserved for one byte. The gaps will be larger, but sectors will be larger as well. The whole track is scaled. It makes sense to me, anyway. Yes, on outer tracks all bits (sectors, gaps, headers) span more disk surface than on inner tracks. I'll have to be very explicit to make sure no-one misunderstands me... What the threat was about is that when you format a disk, the formatting program decides the number of bytes per gap. MSX diskROMs seem to use more bytes per gap than PCs. Then we started wondering what difference this makes. You suggested reliability would improve because more disk surface is used when gaps are larger, but that's not true as larger gaps only means more bytes per gap, this doesn't improve the readability of bytes inside a sector. /Use_gcc_to_compile/ /*xxoxo o*/ intmain()/* */{int i,j,s=1, k,z ,c[ ]={1,4 ,7,4,3,4,6,4 ,1,1,1 ,2, 3,3,3, 4},v[9];;for (i=0;i ++ 9!k;s=-s){k=0;;scanf("%d" ,z) ;v[z]=s ;for(j =0; j8 ;++j){ z=v[c[j]];k|=z ==v [c[ j]- c[j+8] ](v[c [j]+c[ j+8 ]]==zz); ;}}printf(" %d won\n",- s*k );} /***Tic-tac-toe.use_0-8_to_play/ So this is your long-awaited new signature? Re: Moviment SPRITES in Language Machine from BASIC with POKE or Other
I want to know if you have a ROUTINE in language machine from BASIC with of the POKE or other for make move the SPRITE to tall speed in language machine, understands!!, because from BASIC is slow for create videogame, understands!!! You can use "vpoke" to move sprites from basic, but that still isn't very quick, because basic is slow. A real videogame on an MSX is normally not created using basic, it's just too slow. Do me know your good person newses Erm.. well I think you haven't received an answer yet because basic is just slow. There's really not much of a point in using machine language for the movement if you're using basic for the rest. It won't be much faster than using "vpoke", because the calling of the machine language (defusr=x; a=usr(b)) slows down the lot again. If you want to know how to use vpoke to move sprites, check any good msx book, or maybe check some MSX faqs Thank you very much!!! I'm sorry we couldn't be of much help, but it's not really done that way. BASIC and "tall speeds" as you call it, they just don't match Cas Cremers MSX Mailinglist. I hope your name is in the source, otherwise I should write it down... Yes ! Hey ! Everybody take your Joynet cables to tilburg and try to play the game with more than 4 players... I hope someone has a lot of 'real' JoyNet-cables, because mine is only a 2-computer cable (Since I only have 2 computers...) I found a program called "RAMDISK.BIN" - That is the 'Mapper Ramdisk 2.14 by P. te Bokkel'. Maarten ter Huurne wants that program. Can you please mail it to him? I did send it to him. Thanks. Now I don't have to do that anymore. And no, afaik there is no never version of it. And for Dos1, it is the best program. It is much faster than the DOS2 ramdisk... Well, I never use a RAMDISK. Why do you want yours with a lower case first letter? The name shevek comes from a book (the dispossessed by Ursula LeGuin). It is the name of a character there. It's about an anarchistic (but organised) planet. Because I would like to live in such a world and because he's pretty much like me anyway, I chose it to be my nickname. My own interpretation is that the silly capital/non-capital-thing was removed as well, since the language was designed by people. There is someone else on the net I know of called Shevek. Emulating Microcabins with MegaSCSI
Hmmm. I can't emulate some games (Illusion City, Fray, etc.) using Diego's MegaSCSI on my Turbo-R. Surely you have auto CTRL boot enabled (both CTRL boot keys set OFF in "key setting" of ESET), so Microcabin games don't work (I don't know exact reason...) To all Assembler coders!!
Hey.. We think we have something interesting for you.. You probably make your sources with GEN80 or COMPASS as they are the most used assemblers on MSX.. Well.. Also you probably think that it's slow, especially the time to compile files to disk.. Wouldn't it all be easier to use a fully qualified Assembler on PC for MSX?? Which fully supports macro's and that kind of stuph?? Where you can use things as: xor a vdp(9) in stead of: xor a out ($99),a ld a,9+128 out($99),a Or something as set_palette(pointer) etc., etc.. Well as a matter o' fact, TeddyWareZ has contacts with a person who has made Chaos Assembler.. Chaos Assembler is an Assembler for the TI82 and TI83 calculators (which also have an Z80 processor..). The person who made Chaos Assembler will add MSX extensions to Chaos Assembler if there is enough interest.. Also you probably think that it's slow, especially the time to compile files to disk.. No, not really. Assembling my SA-sources (which are quite large) only takes about 30 seconds on my 7MHz MSX. And I can immediately try it out (I can't when working on PC... ok, I can use an emulator...). Wouldn't it all be easier to use a fully qualified Assembler on PC for MSX?? Which fully supports macro's and that kind of stuph?? Since I have no PC next to my MSX... And by the way, Gen80 and Compass also support macros. Where you can use things as: xor a vdp(9) Ok, you can't do that in Compass. But you can make i.e. Vdp 9 as a Compass/Gen80 macro... Or something as set_palette(pointer) etc., etc.. These are just macros in another form (C-like), but again, the same can be done in Compass or Gen80: set_palette pointer...
