Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] slip-printing for staged curbside pickups
Hi Will, There is not currently a way to print pickup receipts for Curbside Pickup, though we have identified that as an enhancement. Equinox is actively seeking funding partners for enhancements to Curbside - here's my full list so far (print lists is #6): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vvJUEmkVRqyLXicqftj3QQ78TFDHMNcaKaynhUR8Btw/edit?usp=sharing The latest version of the draft documentation for Curbside is here: https://www.equinoxinitiative.org/filemanager_uploads/documents/Evergreen%20Curbside%20Pickup%20Documentation.pdf Note that once the Curbside feature is accepted into Evergreen's codebase, I will finalize this documentation and add it to the community docs. Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Anyone willing to answer some general questions about Evergreen ILS?
Hi Nita, If it's relevant to your assignment, I have a hair to split: Evergreen is not in itself a vendor -- it is a software project. There are vendors who provide support, development, migration, etc. for Evergreen libraries but there is no one single Evergreen vendor in the same way there are for proprietary products like Polaris (III) or Symphony (SirsiDynix), etc. A current list of Evergreen service providers is here: https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=faqs:evergreen_companies Additionally there are groups which -- while not vendors in the traditional sense -- serve in a vendor capacity for their respective consortia, such as the Georgia Public Library Service does for Georgia PINES. That said, I work for one of the Evergreen service providers and I will answer questions from that perspective if you need information. [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] needsdiscussion LP tag
Hi all, This is something that came up in the Cataloging Working Group meeting on Wednesday and we wanted to share it with the General List. Often, there are bugs in Launchpad where a solution could go one of several ways and/or is disputed, or where the input of specific end users (catalogers, circ people, etc.) would be helpful in determining the path forward. In order to facilitate these end users finding and commenting on bug reports with their thoughts & experiences, I've created a new tag in Launchpad -- *needsdiscussion*. I know -- don't MOST bugs need discussion? We did talk about this in the CWG, and our idea is to make it easier for newer Launchpad folks to comment, contribute, and find specific bugs where their input might be needed. Instead of looking at ~2000 bugs, they're hopefully looking at an actually manageable number. We encourage bug reporters to apply this tag if they feel it is merited, and our hope is that this will lower a barrier for Launchpad participation by community members. If anyone else has thoughts on this tag please chime in! If you want to know more about Launchpad, Mary Jinglewski and I gave a presentation at the last conference that covers the basics -- you can see our slides here <https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/13mGh0XIBArQfqAMaL5S3U9jl7-LfrChoOALBKXqg_B8/edit#slide=id.p> . Thanks, Dan! The wiki is a goldmine of information but obviously is in need of this kind of organization. +1(million) to Terran's idea of using hierarchical breadcrumbs. [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Web Client Cataloging Bugfix Project
Hi all, I sent an email to the catalogers list last week noting a few Cataloging bugfixes that Equinox wrote patches for at last week's hackfest. [1] Additionally, there were several other Cataloging-related bugs that Equinox employees wrote patches for over the past few weeks. [2] These were all done as community bugfixes. I also circulated a list of further bugs that need addressing in order to improve Cataloging in the web client. Based on feedback from the Cataloging Interest Group and others in the community, I have revised the list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BpcmUp_IbManRwRAf873zJOaKG--1eAmtDTLyzcK13M/edit?usp=sharing Equinox is seeking funding partners to address these bugs as part of a Cataloging Bugfix project. We are committed to addressing as many of the bugs on this list as possible with the funding we secure, with the goal of including these in the 3.2 release (and backported as appropriate). We will be creating a public testing environment where these patches can be tested as they are completed. Anyone who is interested in signing on to this project, please contact me on- or off-list as is your preference. I'm also happy to answer any questions anyone might have. [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Web Client Development
Hello Evergreeners, I am pleased to announce that the development team at Equinox Open Library Initiative has completed several important pieces of development for the Web Staff Client. With the support of numerous community members, we have completed Sprints #5 and #6 as well as a rewrite of the Serials module. Sprint #5 was focused on Booking, Offline Circulation, Print Spine Labels, and a handful of miscellaneous features including adding missing F-key shortcuts and Reprint Last Receipt. All of this code is in master with the exception of Print Spine Labels, which will be in master shortly; and Offline Circulation, which will be committed with Serials (more on that below!). Sprint #5 was funded by Bibliomation, British Columbia Libraries Cooperative, C/W MARS, MassLNC, Pennsylvania Integrated Library System, and Pioneer Library System. Sprint #6 was focused on bug fixing, and 19 total bug fixes were committed to master as part of this Sprint. Sprint #6 was funded by British Columbia Libraries Cooperative, MassLNC, and Pennsylvania Integrated Library System. In addition, we have completed a full webclient-focused rewrite of Evergreen's Serials module. We have a couple of test pieces to wrap up for Serials, and then it along with Offline Circulation will be released to the community. Sprint #4 (which included Serials & Acquisitions) was funded by Bibliomation, King County Library System, MassLNC, and Pioneer Library System. The Serials rewrite was additionally funded by Bibliomation, British Columbia Libraries Cooperative, C/W MARS, King County Library System, and Pennsylvania Integrated Library System. A major thank you to all of our community funding partners for helping us complete this big push to the Web Staff Client! As the community approaches the 3.0 release and the anticipated debut of the Web Staff Client, I want to remind everyone of a few dates: The next Bug Squashing Week <https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:bug_squashing> is scheduled for *next week*, 17-21 July. The second 3.0 Feedback Fest <https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=faqs:evergreen_roadmap> is scheduled for the week of 7-11 August. DIG has scheduled two Web Client Documentation Days <https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=evergreen-docs:webclient> for Wednesday, 23 August and Wednesday, 27 September. Please consider contributing your time & talents to one (or more) of these if you are able! Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Finding records in Evergreen that have no items attached?
Hi Jennifer, An alternative that I used when I worked at KCPL will show bibs that have no copies but still have empty volumes attached (which can prevent a record from auto-deleting): Source -- Last Copy Delete Time Displayed Fields: Record ID (transform: Raw Data) Delete Date/Time (Transform: Date) Filter Field: [Bib] Deleted = False (Last Copy Delete Time :: Record ID) This will return a list of Bib IDs for undeleted bibs, and the date the last copy on the bib was deleted. You can then go through and delete any "stuck" empty volumes. Andrea On Wed, Jan 18, 2017 at 9:30 AM, Walz, Jennifer <jlw...@asbury.edu> wrote: > Blake, > > > > Thank you! Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Ordering bibliographic & item records from vendors
Hi Glen, We go through Baker & Taylor's Customized Library Service -- their catalogers are issued (limited) logins to our Evergreen system and they catalog directly in Evergreen according to our established cataloging policies. Since most of what B does for us is copy-cataloging, I do imagine that they use Vandelay to load the MARC records in batch. They then add volumes (call #s) and item records according to the practices we've established with them. We receive the items completely shelf-ready & they just need a check-in at circ to be on their way. They do obviously charge us for this service, but because we're pretty small we find that it's well worth it to us to free up the staff time. They do a decent job and are great about issuing credits on the rare occasion they make a processing error. Note that we do not use Acquisitions, but my understanding is that this CLS service can be done as part of an EDI/Acquisitions process. Let me know if you have any questions! Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] patron registration
This is what we do, only 5 years as approved by our Board reviewed by an attorney. We shred monthly anything past that 5 year retention period. I don't recall that I've ever had to pull an application, but I have on occasion reminded dispute-y patrons that they signed an agreement when they got their card. As for online registrants, maybe some language like by submitting this application, you agree to abide by all rules policies (etc.) could be added to the form in lieu of a signature. Frankly I don't know if either way holds legal water since it's never come to that for us, but we also don't refer accounts to collections so we've never had to address it in a legal sense. A. The stumper is how we deal with hard copies of registrations. We’ve always had a paper app with signature and we file these in an old card catalog. Do any of you NOT print registrations or keep _any_ hard copies of patron info? Or do you have something simple with just an agreement and signature that doesn’t have to include much about the patron besides name? I feel we might be holding onto paper for nothing. Reasons given to keep it: 1)What if something tragic happens to our ILS? We’ll have paper to backup patron info. (My thoughts: If it’s THAT tragic, the whole building has likely been destroyed…. And also, we’re going to manually reenter patron info for each and every person?!) 2)The patron’s signature is the true agreement. Good luck :) For the non-email users, I know there's a way to feed hold notification data into a telephony system -- I would imagine (but don't know for sure) that this could be adapted to be used for pre-due notices as well. The stock paper thermal labels for the Dymo LabelWriter 400 do fade very quickly, sometimes in a matter of months in my experience. How difficult would it be to also tie in things like documentation testing to this kind of one-stop dashboard? I know there is also a conversation currently about using Launchpad for documentation requests/tracking. I envision a place where coders, testers, documenters can see what needs to be done all in one location, pick what they work on, and get it done -- even if it is just a front/landing page for something like Launchpad. Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] What should be done during unexpected library closings?
We also backdate when checking in items. However, we go ahead and add an entry in the closed date editor to ensure that fines do not accrue on those days we are closed. I should add that we usually are able to put this closed date into the system at least one day before the closed date. I am not sure if the closed date can be entered the same day and fines not accrue. Cristina It's been my experience that if you put the closed date in day-of, it does NOT affect the fines for that day. At least in our setup, the fines had already been charged for that day. There is a way to post-void the fines in batch through a back end process; ESI did it for us so I don't know the technical details. This is useful if, say, an item is due Monday, you're closed (unscheduled) Wednesday, and the item is returned on Thursday. In our system, we would want to charge fines for Tuesday Thursday but not Wednesday. They can be manually voided in the patron billing statement, but it's asking a lot of front line staff to do that (especially if it's a patron with multiple overdues). Perhaps an Unscheduled Closing option in the future that will trigger those post-voids, suspend notices (as Yamil mentioned in OP), add an extra day to hold-shelf expirys, etc.? Two cents. A. My Relais contact told me that there were other Evergreen libraries on Relais and had promised to put me in touch with them but this has yet to happen. So, if anyone in the community has experience with using Relais with Evergreen, and specifically in working out the daily XML export into their system and other technical aspects, please get in touch with me so I can move forward with this! We are currently on EG 2.0.5, but will be going to 2.2.x in the near future. and let the record reflect that I fought mightily for Fulfillment, to no avail @#$!! :) Thanks, A. -- Andrea Buntz Neiman, MLS Technical Services Librarian Kent County Public Library 408 High Street Chestertown, MD 21620 410-778-3636 x2115 www.kentcountylibrary.org
Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Windows 7 and Epson TM-T88V thermal receipt printer woes
I can confirm that this driver worked for us on EG 2.0.x and Win7 64bit. Technically we were using the Epson TM-T90 printer, but it didn't seem to care that I installed the T88V driver. The Windows test pages print without any issues, but we receive the same floating point error when trying to print a receipt from Evergreen. We are currently running 2.0.4. Did you ever find a resolution to this? Thanks, Peter Computer Systems Technician Resort Municipality of Whistler
