I have installed Solaris Indiana recently. The device driver utility detects
Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet card but shows a message that the driver
is missing.
It detects intel pro wireless with no problems.
But the wireless is disabled by default.
How to enable it???

It's definitely possible.
The easiest way is to use the Indiana LiveCD.
Also, it's possible to run a minimal solaris on a USB stick. The glancing
procedures are:
1. make a usf filesystem on the stick
2. dump the cpio image from bfu archive
3. copy some critical files
4. install grub, set the boo

to work with a screen resolution larger than 1024x768 when running under
VirtualBox 1.6, but no luck.
I installed the VirtualBox guest additions, but they didn't help.
I followed the instructions in the Virtual Box manual to

This isn't an appropriate place to ask Solaris 9 questions, try your

I am working on the problem of WBEM service in Solaris 9/07, and in that I am
not able to find out com.sun.trustedsolaris jar file...
Can you plz tell me, the location of com.sun.trustedsolaris.* ?
Which jar should I include?
Thanks in advance...

It appears the cd I just received in the mail for OS is bad :( I can boot the
LiveCD to the desktop but then the drive just spins forever and my nouse
freezes.
I guess one day I'll try another iso download.

gcc & flex are available from the repository, just didn't fit on the LiveCD.
Run: pfexec pkg install gcc-dev SUNWflexlex

My question is Does Dtrace have any better tools for monitoring or using UNIX

I am new to this blog and Dtrace.
My Compaq Presario 2170us laptop has 512Meg RAM; 128K of that memory is

Will I have sufficent memory to run OS?
Thanks! :)

Or more accurately, completely changes (breaks!) how zones are built, removing
the tried and tested and industry celebrated zone system that is in vanilla
Solaris.
This means that anyone who has been building zones / zone automation scripts

It's twofold.
On one side, you could expect that any changes made are just optimizations,
rather small and easy to rewrite under

There is a very bitter difference between "will have" and "has", isn't there?

I am new to OpenSolaris. Please, I apologize if my questions are too primitive
for advanced users.
Before hearing about OpenSolatis I had the idea to use 16 surplus Sun Sparc 10
Stations to implement a Mosix cluster. I would appreciate advice about using
these machines to built clusters.
Hi,
Hopefully, we'll see a positive trend in the education sector. That's how we'll
build out our community. Trying to persuade the Linux crowd to defect is highly
unlikely.

As a workaround, you could try using pconsole - which is a complete free tool
doing similar things like SUNWccon.
You can get it from
http://www.heiho.net/pconsole/index.html
SUNWccon can't work currently on OpenSolaris 2008.05 becuase it uses Motif
which is NOT part of OpenSolaris 2008.05 (it

Riiight... that's why we usually see people putting stuff in public domain
Hello everyone:
When I am programming a kernel module for Solaris, I encountered one
problem: I cannot get the the absolute path for the current working
directory of the current process.
In user space, we can do this by calling getcwd(), but this function does
not take kernel address as parameter
