Re: Burning with RealPlayer

2005-05-30 Thread Dana S. Leslie

Tim,

I find using My Library very difficult. I prefer to highlight the tracks I
want to burn in Windows Explorer, then right click, and choose burn a CD in
Realplayer. But, whether I select the tracks I want to burn this way, or
your way (using My Library), once the Burn/Transfer screen is up, I still
have the same difficulty. I can tab until I find the Burn Your CD button.
But I can't activate it in PC cursor mode. I have to switch to JAWS cursor
mode. But, then, I still find it very difficult to locate the burn Your CD
button using the JAWS CURSOR.

What I want, once my tracks are selected and I'm on the Burn/Transfer screen
(however I've gotten to that point), is something like a pull-down menu
command, hot key, or key stroke command, to activate the Burn Your Cd
button, without having to resort to the JAWS cursor. Do you have any
suggestions on this specific, last step in the process?

Thanks.

Blessed Be,

Dana

Yes. Just make sure your library is set up right before you do this. Hit
the alt-v key and choose burn-transfer. When you pick it you can choose
what you want from your library and tell it that you want to burn a cd(do
that first) and click burn cd. Oh, you need to tell it what kind of cd.

For a few days now, I've been downloading tracks from the RealPlayer 10
Music Store, burning them to CD - which has to be done in RealPlayer
Premium - , and ripping them off as .wav files. It's been working well,
and the quality of the tracks is excellent! But I have one major problem
(aside from the cost grin). When the tracks I want to burn are loaded in
RealPlayer and ready to be burned, the burn your Tracks button has to be
click with the JAWS cursor, and it's rather hard to find in JAWS cursor

Is there a key stroke, or something else I don't know about?

Thanks.

 Yardbird,

Pardon me for jumping in, but I think your problem is that you're
misunderstanding what Kevin is telling you. correct me if I'm wrong,
Kevin,
but my understanding is that the intermediate stage of writing an image
file to disk is NOT intended to correct/prevent errors that result from

Re: Kevin: On the fly, another question

2005-05-30 Thread Yardbird
Hi guys,

Thanks to Donna for persevering. I just want to reassure both you guys that
that's what I meant by my question in the first place. I never imagined
that this process had some power to actually rectify errors on the origin
CD! I don't know how I gave that impression, causing Kevin to try to
correct a mistaken idea I didn't even have. Anyway, what you say, Donna,
and what Kevin agrees to, is exactly what I was guessing to be the purpose
of the process. it's what I meant to have said. I'll bet if I looked back
through the exchanges, I'd find a juncture where I might have phrased
something in just such a way as to divert or mislead Kevin. I probably
spoke of correcting the errors that are on the CD, for instance, when I
didn't mean fix the CD, by any means-- I know that isn't possible, and
that error correction in a player, for example, just compensates for and
paves over such errors, somewhat I suppose as this intermediate copying step
does. I should have said something like fixes the errors that have been
copied from the CD, before they're encoded into the compressed music file
and/or the duped CD and become permanent and, likely, unplayable.

Whew. Well, that's what I meant in the first place, and the
misunderstanding grew worse and worse until Kevin seemed to be negating
every one of my proposals, while all the while we were on the same page in
our thoughts though not in our words.

Well, so it goes. Thanks for your persistence in trying to straighten me
out even though I had the right idea, Kevin! And Donna, thanks for taking a
moment (or more, I suppose) to offer an articulate revision for us to
consider and just say Oh, yeah, that's what we meant.

Sometimes the library might become corrupted and this will cause problems
when you choose the burn/transfer option of the view menu. Choose the my

What precisely do you have in mind when you say to be sure to have My

Under the My Library preferences, I have the folder structure and file

Re: Burning with RealPlayer

2005-05-30 Thread Dana S. Leslie
I don't use IPod. But, of course, I can understand how using my Library
makes many tasks easier than not using it. But, given the sluggish way JAWS
responds throughout most all of RealPlayer, I find it even easier, as I said
before, to use windows explorer to select all the Realplayer files I want to
work on, and then to right click, and choose my desired action from the
context menu. As I also said, that part of the process isn't my problem. My
problem is only triggering the burn, once I've got it properly set up.

I'll have to explore the RealPlayer help file, as you suggest. I'll let you
know if I turn up anything useful.

I don't use JFW so I don't find it difficult to use the mouse keys. I don't
know of a hot key, although there might be one. Realplayer has a really
good help file. In fact, if you don't like it you can get the screen
accessible help file. The help lists a hotkey section specifically for
Screenreaders. I felt the same way you did about my library until I
started using the Ipod Shuffle for music. You should really take another
look at it because if you do a lot of transferring or burning it makes it a
lot easier to do.

Tim,

I find using My Library very difficult. I prefer to highlight the tracks I
want to burn in Windows Explorer, then right click, and choose burn a CD
in Realplayer. But, whether I select the tracks I want to burn this way,
or your way (using My Library), once the Burn/Transfer screen is up, I
still have the same difficulty. I can tab until I find the Burn Your CD
button. But I can't activate it in PC cursor mode. I have to switch to
JAWS cursor mode. But, then, I still find it very difficult to locate the
burn Your CD button using the JAWS CURSOR.

What I want, once my tracks are selected and I'm on the Burn/Transfer
screen (however I've gotten to that point), is something like a pull-down
menu command, hot key, or key stroke command, to activate the Burn Your Cd
button, without having to resort to the JAWS cursor.

When the tracks I want to burn are loaded
in RealPlayer and ready to be burned, the burn your Tracks button has
to be click with the JAWS cursor, and it's rather hard to find in JAWS

about?

Thanks.

Tim,

I did go back into My Library, and, this time, I was able to figure out how
to purge all the files that had gotten added, and re-import just the ones I
want. Now, to keep it updated, I've selected the folders I want watched, an

tell if the number is a number of minutes, hours, or what units.

Sometimes the library might become corrupted and this will cause problems
when you choose the burn/transfer option of the view menu. Choose the my
library option under the view menu once in a while just to make sure the
library isn't corrupt. Real player will rebuild the library under this
option.

Thanks for the Tip. I haven't seen the option you speak of,under the view
menu. But I'll explore further.

What precisely do you have in mind when you say to be sure to have My
library set up correctly? In the general preferences, I have My Library
defined as the folder in which I keep all my music files: E:\My Music.
Under the My Library preferences, I have the folder structure and file
naming conventions set the way I want them. What else is there to be
careful of doing correctly?

Thanks, again.

2005-05-30 Thread Yardbird
I have a question about this part of the operation, also. I went into the
Library configuration things in the Files menu, and got to where I was
presented with a list of file types from which to choose which would be
noticed and imported into the library. Well, I couldn't figure out how to
make the individual options in the list say whether they were selected or
not, and kept experimenting with the space bar to see if they'd speak their
state. But they didn't. So I tabbed and discovered buttons for select all
and deselect all. But I'd rather be able to check just the file types I
want the library to deal with, spcifically .mp3 and .wma files, and that's
it.

Anyone know how to select file types using Jaws?

Thanks.

Yardbird,

I can't find anything like what you're talking about in the My Library
preferences section. The only place I find anything like that is in the
mediaTypes preferences. and these do not control the media types that My
Library will notice, so much as the media types RealPlayer will play.

As far as how to configure them, I find it much easier to do so from the
Windows Explorer File Types dialogue. You can just scroll down the list of
types there, and assign those you wan to Realplayer, and those you want to
Winamp, etc. You can even assign some to windows Media player, though I
wouldn't recommend doing that. grin

If you know where all of the files are just delete them with internet
explorer and then go into realplayer under the tools menu and select the
rem old or missing media option.

Is there a way to purge all entries currently in My Library, before

Yes. Just make sure your library is set up right before you do this.
Hit

the alt-v key and choose burn-transfer. When you pick it you can choose
what you want from your library and tell it that you want to burn a cd(do
that first) and click burn cd. Oh, you need to tell it what kind of cd.

Tim,

I did go back into My Library, and, this time, I was able to figure out
how to purge all the files that had gotten added, and re-import just the
ones I want. Now, to keep it updated, I've selected the folders I want
watched, an enabled the watch feature. But where it asks how often I want
the folder check, it gives me an edit box into which to enter a number.
But I can't tell if the number is a number of minutes, hours, or what
units.

I don't use JFW so I don't find it difficult to use the mouse keys. I
don't

know of a hot key, although there might be one. Realplayer has a really
good help file. In fact, if you don't like it you can get the screen
accessible help file. The help lists a hotkey section specifically for
Screenreaders. I felt the same way you did about my library until I
started using the Ipod Shuffle for music. You should really take another
look at it because if you do a lot of transferring or burning it makes it

Tim,

I find using My Library very difficult. I prefer to highlight the tracks
I want to burn in Windows Explorer, then right click, and choose burn a
CD in Realplayer. But, whether I select the tracks I want to burn this
way, or your way (using My Library), once the Burn/Transfer screen is up,
I still have the same difficulty. I can tab until I find the Burn Your CD
button. But I can't activate it in PC cursor mode. I have to switch to
JAWS cursor mode. But, then, I still find it very difficult to locate the
burn Your CD button using the JAWS CURSOR.

What I want, once my tracks are selected and I'm on the Burn/Transfer
screen (however I've gotten to that point), is something like a pull-down
menu command, hot key, or key stroke command, to activate the Burn Your
Cd button, without having to resort to the JAWS cursor. Do you have any
suggestions on this specific, last step in the process?

Thanks.

If looking at the PC from the back, on my PC the Mic jack is the one next to
the

left of the speaker jack.
Make sure you go to the control pannel and then to sounds and audio devices,
then go to the audio tab, then tab to the round recording volume button and
hit

the enter key.
Tab till you come to Analog Microphone and adjust the volume to as high as
you
want it and then make sure you tab to the select check box and press the
space

bar to check this box.
Press ALT+P to take you to the properties and type X to exit this area.
Tab to OK and you are done.
Close the control pannell and you are ready to talk.

Hope this helps and if you have Skype test out your system and give me a

I prefer desk mics but it will probably do the job to start with. Those plastics
mics seem to have a very wide field of pickup and can often pickup noises such
as the computer fan.
You should be able to pick a good quality mic or a headset from some ware like
radio shack if it still exists.

Hope this helps.

Hi Paul,
If the soundblaster card has standard jacks,
Looking at the computer from the back, the arrangement should be as
follows.

from left to right.
1. midi port.
2. rear speakers.
3. front speakers.
4. microphone.
5. line-in.
6. line-out.

R Q J

Subject: Looking For Mike Jack On SB Live Soundcard?

Hi all.

I just got an SB Live sound card and I am trying to locate the mike jack.
I
am guessing it is either in front of the speaker jack or just behind it,
on

my computer, or just to the left or right of it on someone elses machine.
If someone could tell me which one it is I would be REAL appreciative. I
want to find a voice chat room but got to get a mike working first, guess
that might help, ha ha.
T I A,
Paul

audio file extention question

2005-05-30 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, somebody wrote me, and wanted to know what player plays the m4a
file extention, and since I had never heard of it, I thought I'd ask
here, or, will a standard player like winamp or windows media player
play those? Thanks in advance.

Marty

Fw: Winamp locking up sometimes when leaving stream

2005-05-30 Thread Peter Russillo
Hi list, I originally sent the below message to the Winamp list but heard
nothing so I'd like to bounce this off this list. Perhaps after reading the
below message if someone has any ideas or tricks to correct the behavior I
describe in the message you may write me privately at

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Your help would be appreciated; thanks.

Regards,

Peter

Subject: Winamp locking up sometimes when leaving stream

Hi list. I've seen sometimes when listening to a stream like some of
those
on Live365, (where I've set things up for Winamp to play the stream), on
some streams there, especially the ones that are for dial-up but use MP3
Pro, after a half hour to an hour, when I want to leave that stream and do
something else, when trying Alt-F4 or just V to stop Winamp, nothing
happens; the music keeps playing, no matter what I do; the only solution
in
this case is the ol' 3-finger salute and rebooting the machine. I use Win
 98 SE, IE 6.0, JFW 4.51, dial-up connection, and 64 mb RAM; I'm using
Winamp
5.08E, which works very well for me normally. I also turn off the Task
Scheduler before listening so Norton won't try to go get updates; I've
found
through experience that leaving Task Scheduler on while listening to a
stream can cause things to misbehave. Any ideas on how to keep Winamp
from
becoming frozen so I can enjoy my favorite bookmarked streams and when
ready
to do something else, won't have to deal with a frozen Winamp? Thanks for
any tips or tricks to make things behave right; thanks in advance.

 Regards, Peter
