I'd expect that your speakers will not be activated when the USB device is
connected because only one output or playback device would be invoked being
the default one.

Could well be wrong, but that's what I'd suspect.

 Thanks for those great comments.

I do not have external speakers; mine are built into my monitor.

When you say the default is changed to u s b speakers, pardon my
ignorance here: but will that affect my monitor-based speakers?

Many thanksfort hese ttips and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

 Hi Fred,

I installed one of these units last night and after a bit of a wrestle
 got
it to work on a PC using Windows XP and JFW 5.1.

1.Make sure you turn off JFW (or any other screen reader), before
connecting to the PC USB port. This is because, once the connection is
made, the default player in your audio devices changes to USB Speakers.
 The
screen reader must be started after this happens or it locks up because
 the
default player has changed. It's worth mentioning, that the same problem
would occur if you started streaming, playing a CD etc, before connecting
 the USB device.

2.I found I had to turn the volume up on the Sound dialogue which can
 be
reached from Control Panel. You can do this from a couple of places and
 it
only effects the player device being used (USB Speakers).

3.I noticed an annoying tone when the receiving device was emitting
audio. I found that by winding the thin wire antenna around the unit
 that
this hum disappeared. Don't know why!

4.Another tip about tuning the device. Mine came preset to 106.7 FM.
It can also be set to 106.9 FM, 107.1 ... up to 107.9 FM. These seven
settings can be chosen by the appropriate setting of three dip switches.
The switches are located behind a rubber pad which can be easily removed.
This pad is easily located being near the end of one of the sides,
 adjacent
to the USB socket. The documentation shows the settings for the various
frequencies, I just tried them out till finding the frequency I wanted.

 Good luck.

 Stephen Jolley

i certainly don't think so, considering you can plug any old cassette dec
into the line in on your sound card and get exactly the same results.

the thing is about this deck is that it's just a tape deck! you still have
to play the whole 90 mins of a cassette to get it on the hard drive! the
only real benefit over normal decks is that it's internal so you don't have
to fiddle with cables everytime you want to transfer tape to PC. is this
benefit really worth $150?

Hey Denny, I do the same thing, copy lp's old open reel cassettes
into
  my pc.
The lp's never sounded so good.
Doesn't seem to matter which software I use to copy, the audio is
greatly
enhanced plays from the pc crystal clear. It does seem to matter which
software I use to play them back from the pc, Winamp gives the best
  playback
sound, especially on the bass, giving a more natural bass whereas some
  other
softwares give more of a thumping bass rather than the pure bass tones.
Even the old mono lp's get enhanced sound, this is true even of some old
  lp's from the 40's.
  Thanks, Harry Bassler

  John and list,
That was an interesting article. I'm one of those guys that has
many
45s and 12 inch singles. Of course I've got cds too. The frequency
response on the records is incredible. That's providing you keep the
records in mint condition. I get requests from friends for certain
songs
such as Maroon 5, as well as older artists. I record the 45s on to the
computer, and put them on cds for them. Yes, current songs are still
available on vinyl. As for the tapes, if you were able to get the
metal
ones, those sounded really good. Talk to you guys later.

RATHER
SOON OTHERWISE IN THE FUTURE, THEY MAY CHARGE FOR UPGRADING. ALSO TAKE
NOTE
THAT IF YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS HAS CHANGED SINCE YOU INITIALLY PURCHASED TOTAL

yes, yes, and yeah. it's extremely accessible, plenty of keyboard commands.
very easy to move within big files, it has a jump to dialogue like winamp,
and you can reverse and forward from incraments as little as a tenth of a
second to as high as 15 minutes.

New Cricinfo Radio service launched

Cricinfo to webcast audio coverage of the Asia Cup

July 14, 2004

Cricinfo announced today that it will provide internet audio coverage of the
Asia Cup, which begins in Sri Lanka on Friday, July 16. A subscription to
the

US$4.99 (£2.60).

The match commentary on

which will be unofficial, will be led by the former BBC Test Match Special
commentator Ralph Dellor, and also features the renowned Pakistan
commentator
Shazad Humayan and the experienced cricket journalist Stephen Lamb. Farokh
Engineer, Sanjay Manjrekar and Ranjit Fernando will join the team to provide
expert analysis and comment .

All key matches will feature full ball-by-ball coverage, and there will be
previews and match reports as well as interviews and news from all games
played.

The product will be available both in Windows Media and Real Player formats,

Hi all, I don't know too much about Cordless Headphones, and wondered
if someone could help me out a bit. I've an MP3 player and my

don't know which sort to buy, things to look out for and so on. I'm
also aware that in life you get what you pay for, so
makes/models/prices would be appreciated. I just bought a pair of
Sony ones for about gBP40, which sound OK, but there's background
noise (hiss) and the reception fails when I get downstairs, I've a
relatively small terraced house. I feel that I've wasted this money,
and would rather try to find out a bit more before I spend any more,
though very much want a pair of these. I live alone, so the sound
isolation problem isn't too much of a difficulty, as I know my way
round my house very well, and therefore don't need to be able to hear
too much. Ideally I'd be able to plug 2 or 3 devices in, and select
which I wanted to listen to, I.E. a book on the computer, album on the
stereo, sports on my DAB tuner, or whatever.

Thanks for any help, and I'm sure this is probably an old chestnut.

Re: fm transmitter sound related issues

2004-07-08 Thread Marco Curralejo
i think it's either the cable or the sound card. i'm going to try running
another cable in the next few days and we'll see if that fixes it. if not,
i'll grab another sound card from ebay and try that sollution out and
hopefully that will fix things for good.

Yes, the speakers sounded fine. The transmitter did not however. I thought
it was the transmitter itself, but now that you are having the same problem,
maybe not. I had some problems with that particular model earlier too, and
I thought that may have had something to do with my poor reception. But
your problem is the exact same one I had. .

did you used to get a hissing noise when you plugged your speakers into
that
card, because i get perfect sound from my speakers and when i plug my
transmitter into either lineout, headphones or where my speakers are
plugged
into, i get the hiss and the cut in transmission strength.

It sounds like the card then. I still have that computer, and will try my
transmitter in it, and see if I get the hissing noise. I would be
interested to find out, if it is indeed the card.

Re: streaming with realplayer 10 queery

2004-05-07 Thread Marco Curralejo
usually, a streaming difficulty, especially when viewing or listening to
something that is over 300 kbps, is caused by slow latency. trying pinging
http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/video/daily.jsp and if you get responses
slower then 250ms, then try running a traceroute on the above URL. if you
got longer response times towards the end of the traceroute results, then
it's a problem with the server that your watching, in this case mlb.com, but
if you get slow responses at the beginning of the test, then it's a problem
with your ISP, in which case you should contact them with your results and
ask them to run some tests and hopefully sort out the problem for you.

also, i would suggest trying to find yourself a free http proxy server,
which you can do by running a search in www.google.com for free http proxy
servers. try and use one that's located as close to you as possible and
prior to setting the server and port up in real player, try pinging it to
make sure you get quick response times.

if you want any further advice, please write me offline and i'll help you
anyway i can.

cheers.

marco.

i believe that all of the games over the weekends, due to legal
requirements, aren't allowed to be shown for longer than 5 minutes for a
period of 24 hours. if you look on the mlb.tv page, it will state it
somewhere towards the bottom of that page. also, the sunday night game
that's broadcast on espn, isn't allowed to be shown as a replay at all, so
if this particular game your refering to is from espn, you may encounter
 problems watching it on archive.

hi, maybe it's just me but twice recently i've tried listening to the
archive of an angels game via MLB.tv. on both occasions, about 5 minutes
into the archive, the audio and video stops for no reason. i've not
noticed
this with any other team. i live in the UK so i doubt it's to do with
blackout and the like. can someone try the angels v tigers game from last
night? may 3rd that is. you get all the stuff at the begining, then an ad
break ending with a trailer about the lakers NBA team. then not long
after,
the archive just stops., it's about 5/6 minutes into the archive. i've got
a
little sight, so i put the video on full screen, at the point i'm talking
about, the audio stops and the vido disappears and i'm back to the page of
the embedded player. this is using realplayer i think if it helps.

i posted previously that the first radio button in preferences on the

second
radio button was for windows media player. this is actually not the case

Re: Total Recorder and mic input problem

2004-04-14 Thread Marco Curralejo
norma.

i'm using jfw and here are some instructions which will hopefully fix your
problem.

go into control pannel and click on sounds and audio devices.

then tab down to device volume advanced button and press space on that.

once the screen pops up with all the various controls for sound
inputs/outputs, press tab and arrow down once to properties and press space
on that.

tab once and arrow down once to adjust volume for recording. then tab twice
and press space on ok.

once your in the next screen of input/output controls, tab through until you
get to microphone balance and microphone bolume and make sure that the check
box is checked.

then alt f4 to get out of this window, tab through to ok and press space on
that and alt f4 out of the control pannel, and all should work fine.

cheers.

Subject: Streaming MLB.com with Windows Media Player

Hi,

I have been using Windows Media Player version 9 to listen to gameday audio
on mlb.com. Last night when I tried to listen the stream would not play. I
have two computers in the same room on a network. The stream played just
fine on my wife's computer and had been playing on mine until last night. I
uninstalled Winamp and reinstalled Windows Media Player and the stream
still did not play. I do not get any kind of error message as faras I can
tell it just sits there. I deleted some temporary files off my pc over the
weekend and must have caused the problem somehow. Does anybody have any
ideas on what might have happened and how I can fix it? Windows Media
Player does still play the archived games and it streams ACB Radio and
plays sample programs from audible.com just fine. It just isn't streaming
live mlb.com any longer. Please help.

Thanks,

Robert Carter

Let me explain what I do in Window-Eyes and maybe you can figure it out in
JFW. When you're listening to an archived game, you go to the bottom
right
corner of the screen with the mouse keys. Then you start moving backward
by
element. You'll be moving over graphics. You'll also hear the word
preferences. Anyway, keep going until you hear the elapsed time of the
game
you're listening to. Move forward by element and you should be on a
graphic. If you click that graphic once you'll be fast forwarding, once
again and you'll be back to normal play.

Like I said before and I'm not guessing at this, if the imbedded player
is
the one for realplayer streams, there is a nice little graphic for
 skipping
forward through a stream. I think there might be one for the Windows
 Media
stream but I have to wait until I can get someone to read the graphics.

when the embedded player opens up, i don't believe you can flick
through
  the
matches, unless it opens up in the imbedded player with real player as
  it's
choice of player. then you should be able to right click on the screen
 and
tell it to play in real player. if you right click on the imbedded
 player
and it has used windows media player to play the stream, it doesn't
 allow
you to open the archive up in windows media player and i believe that
  there
is no graphic that allows you to skip through the game, but i'll get
  sighted
assistance to find this out for sure and get back to you.

   cheers.

well, i had a play around with the imbeded player today, and every stream
that i played with that was archived opens up in windows media and it
appears that there is no way of flicking through the game. you are right
tim. when a stream opens up in an imbeded player using real player, you can
flick through the program no problems, but it appears to me that you can't
do it with the windows media version of this. rather annoying.

also, if you look on the mlb.tv side of the mlb.com website, which is what i
use, it quite clearly states when your logging into watch a live or archived
match that all live streams can be opened up in either windows media or real
player, but that all archives will only play through windows media.

cheers.

JFW,
you should have full control using Realplayer.

hmm. that's interesting. well, if you get real player on one team, try
clicking on it with the right mouse button and tell the clip to play in
 real
player. then once real player opens up and the clip starts playing, see
if
you can fast forward and rewind through the game. i must admit, all of
my
listening to baseball this year has been through the mlb.tv side of
 things,
so i haven't really played around with game day audio.

Well, it depends on which team you choose. For example, I get
Realplayer
 if
I choose WPEN, but Windows Media player if I choose KFWB.

well, wiht the archives, you only get windows media player coming up,
 and
unfortunatley, it appears that you can't fast forward through the
game.
 if
they ran it through real player, you'd be able to click on it wiht the
  mouse
and then make it start up in real player, which would then allow you
to
  fast
forward through the clips no problem.

Depends on which imbedded player pops up. You'll have to use the
 virtual
   mouse in any case.
