Exact audio copy does have a database, yes.
There's a program called vuplayer that I use that has simply the best
cd database I've ever seen, often if eac doesn't have a disc I'll load

Re: best way to play/stream music through a house?

2017-03-30 Thread Robert Godridge
We will have a sony docking thingy (I forget which moddle) in the living room.
I'd love to be able to send the audio from my mixer wirelessly to this
or through bluetooth. I'm a record collector and have my turntable
hooked up through my mixer as well as my computer, which is able to
listen to my turntable/rest of my mixer through phono cables. Does
this make sense?

Subject: downloading from a site that streams audio but doesn't allow
 downloads

  Hi folks

The subject line might seem kind of simple, but it's the only way I can
think of to describe the situation. Here's what's happening. There's a
specific website that allows you to listen to audio content, but it
doesn't offer links to download said content. I'm pretty sure there has
to be a way to do it though. it uses an html 5 player, which most
screenreaders can recognize, so listening to the audio is no problem.
It offers podcast feeds, but it only offers the last 10 or so items
posted, and I'd like to get a lot more of it. At one time it did allow
downloads but has since stopped for whatever reason. Just so everyone
can have a look, the website is:
 http://www.formatchange.com
This is a website that allows you to listen to different radio stations
changing formats. Kind of geeky, but I've been a radio nut for years so
I like this sort of thing and i'm willing to bet others do too. So if
there's any software that'll allow me to capture this audio, I'd love to
get ahold of it and capture some more of this stuff.

 Thanks guys!

 Chris

I wonder how Youtube deals with video files you upload that contain a second

track that description would be in? Will it give the viewer an option to
switch, or do they end up stripping it out? I suppose you could upload a
 second one that's described.

What's wrong with making a youtube video?
everything else is in text. the web page is text, the project sight is
 text, etc.
What is wrong with a video so that sighted people can actually see the
 thing?
and if they're trying to get it premoted that is because they need
 backing. I
don't see anything wrong with that.
I really think people should be told about this.

The video is mostly meant for sighted people, but do read the web
  sight it
  is
  much more detailed.
You can save things on it I'm guessing, sinse it mentions being able
  to
  save
the face of a loved one etc so I'm guessing that there are presets
  somewhere in there.

The potential of this thing is enormous, you guys must realise that.

To me the longlasting battery isn't as important as other features.
Saving information and clearly putting it to something the device

bring, it seems to me that they're at a very early stage of development. I
agree that it does sound great, but the technical aspects of how the device
works aren't explained at all. I'd be keen to find out exactly how it does
the things it says it does.

it fits on a pair of glasses. People walk around with glasses on all

Yes, I'd rather have it from a human. I think we all would. But that's

This is the single most exciting blind related thing I've ever heard

What's wrong with making a youtube video?
everything else is in text. the web page is text, the project sight is
text, etc. What is wrong with a video so that sighted people can
actually see the thing?

backing. I don't see anything wrong with that.
I really think people should be told about this.

blind djs: beatmatching with software, loads of questions

2014-06-08 Thread Robert Godridge
Hi folks,
so, I have been a vinyl dj for about 15 years now, sinse I was a kid!
and I have no intention of putting the decks away, but with the
ammount of great new tracks coming out it's time to get into mp3s I
think.
so, do any of you blind folk know of a decent, accessable, intuative
set up that enables you to beatmatch mp3s as seemlessly as possible?
I'm imagining it's possible that for example the up and down arrows
could be used to control the pitch or they would on my ideal set up.
zulu dj software is the best I've found so far but I can't figure out
the beatmatching though it looks easy!
I am quite a perfectionist, that's what vinyl djing gets you used to
so I can tell off beats a mile off...
if any of you guys dj and would be willing to go through your setup
that would be really great. I mostly play minimal techno, drum and
bass etc so quick fades just won't cut it.
cheers,
Rob

zulu dj seems very accesseable to me with nvda, the beatmatching is
the only part that isn't and it's doing my head in!
if you're going to do discos and parties I couldn't recommend it
highly enough, i did one last month with it with no problems at all.
but yeah, beatmatching just doesn't want to work, and it's really
doing my head in.
any ideas anyone?

yeah, I love cdjs too, but it would be nice to have the mp3 option,
and with the amount of stuff i have it just isn't practical to have it

I can't see how to do it manually with zulu. am i being slow? is there

you should try it again mate. all the menues are accesseable.

 Hi Aidan,
zulu dj seems very accesseable to me with nvda, the beatmatching is
the only part that isn't and it's doing my head in!
if you're going to do discos and parties I couldn't recommend it
highly enough, i did one last month with it with no problems at all.
but yeah, beatmatching just doesn't want to work, and it's really
 doing my head in.
 any ideas anyone?

I don't think Zulu dj is accessible, at least I couldn't manage. Maybe
someone should make scripts for it. Maybe we should ask NCHSoftware to
make it keyboard and screenreader friendly.

 Hi folks,
so, I have been a vinyl dj for about 15 years now, sinse I was a kid!
and I have no intention of putting the decks away, but with the
ammount of great new tracks coming out it's time to get into mp3s I
 think.
so, do any of you blind folk know of a decent, accessable, intuative
set up that enables you to beatmatch mp3s as seemlessly as possible?
I'm imagining it's possible that for example the up and down arrows
could be used to control the pitch or they would on my ideal set up.
zulu dj software is the best I've found so far but I can't figure out
the beatmatching though it looks easy!
I am quite a perfectionist, that's what vinyl djing gets you used to
so I can tell off beats a mile off...
if any of you guys dj and would be willing to go through your setup
that would be really great. I mostly play minimal techno, drum and
bass etc so quick fades just won't cut it.
 cheers,
 Rob

first post: best mp3 player for a totaly blind user

2014-06-04 Thread Robert Godridge
Hello all.
I'm sorry if this has been discussed loads of times before, I'm new to
the list and unsure how to search passed messages.

I am totaly blind and am looking for an mp3 player. here are a few points.
i am using a sony nwz model at the moment, this is fine but it's only
16 gb. I have about 3 tb of music and collect records, so this is
getting to be not nearly enough even for day to day use, especially if
i go on holidays.
I don't care if it talks or not, in a lot of ways i'd rather it didn't.
I know that you can get big takling ipods, but I don't think I like
those too much.
The most important thing for me is that on my sony I can use the up
and down to go back and forth by album and left and right by track. I
love this feature about it, but I would like something with simple
menues so that if I so wish I can put it on shuffle for a while.

Do you folks have any suggestions to check out?
sorry for the long post!
Rob.

Unfortunately not. I don't think so anyway, I see no sd card slot on it.
I would highly recommend it to any other blind users, but I would
really like something a bit bigger. there is a 32 gb model, but it is
aparrently not as accessable as it's touch screan. can anyone conferm
this?

On 6/4/14, Dennis dennis...@gmail.com wrote:
can you use a sd card with that player? the reason i ask is if you like
it that much, you could keep it and just buy a bunch of sd cards if it
 lets you do that.

Hi all,
I'll have a look at that Milestone 312, how much does it hold by defalt?
do you have one, Humberto, and if so what do you like best about it?
reply off list if you'd rather.

Yeah, that ez thing sounds amazing!
but the price tag on it is bound to be enormous, so it might not be an
option rite away and to be honest as I do quite a bit of travelling
around I'd rather have something sooner rather than later.
please keep the ideas coming!

I like Milestone 312, it can use an SD card of up to 32 GB. It has good
 sound.

Hi Gerardo,
does the Sansa Zip take the 32 gb sd cards?
and the click plus as well?

Have you used yours with the larger sd cards and how did it work?
that sounds like a great option to me rite now.
