Install it and agree to terms.
Start the player.
Insert a CD and wait till it's recognized.
Pres control+p to export the information in the player.ini.
Open CDEx and cancel the process of searching the data base.
Press alt and navigate to the right to CDDB.
Press arrow down till you find Read from player.ini and hit enter.
The information should be there.
I only very rarely have a CD that the combination of FreeCDDB and Gracenote
don't cover.

Good luck and get back to me, if you need any further help.

put out a few years ago on George Jones) it did fine with the
first two CDs, but with the third CD, Freed (or whatever it's

won't it and is there a way to make it work? Could it be that I
just need to wait and try again another time? This boxed set is
a 5-CD boxed set; each CD has approximately thirty tracks.and I

Great! That's all I need to know (it didn't mention Windowws 7 in the

Thanks again for sharing this information!

It doesn't seem like (at least to me) that ripping CDs with Windows Media is
as cut and dried as it used to be with WMP 11; that's why I went back to
Cdex! As I said before, it seems strange to me that CD 1 and CD 2 did just
fine! But it's telling me no match found with CD 3! In case this helps,
am running Jaws 16 on a Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit (if this matters at
all) will try again later on today as it could be that there may have just
been a problem with that Freed server or something?

to use a better data base.
I like cdex but I can rip cds two at a time with windows media.
Sometimes they all get it wrong however.
I have never ripped with winamp but they seem to be able to find cd titles

Well now...since I have an earlier version OD Cdex, would it help if I went
on and upgraded to the latest version? I think (even with the version of
Cdex I have) there may be a way to get the information from a different
source...although I don't remember exactly how this is accomplished! I
still think it odd that the CD I'm having the problem with comes from that
same boxed set (if the whole set was that way, I'd maybe agree that the
company didn't bother to put out the info) but it's the same set (CD 1 and 2
work fine) but thanks to those of you who are making suggestions and who are
trying to help!

something similar, only this time, it's doing fine with the first

BTW-decided I'd give it another go with Cdex in hopes that maybe last
night's problems were a fluke as it had worked with the first two CDs from
the boxed set; no soap! Same results! Is still telling me no match

Download the Player.exe from
http://www.vuplayer.com/player.php
Install it and agree to terms.
Start the player.
Insert a CD and wait till it's recognized.
Pres control+p to export the information in the player.ini.
Open CDEx and cancel the process of searching the data base.
Press alt and navigate to the right to CDDB.
Press arrow down till you find Read from player.ini and hit enter.
The information should be there.
I only very rarely have a CD that the combination of FreeCDDB and Gracenote
don't cover.

Good luck and get back to me, if you need any further help.

Windows media seems to find cds better than cdex or audio grabber. They seem

Sometimes they all get it wrong however.

well to.

Re: Really strange problem with winamp 5.07

2014-05-27 Thread Brian Olesen

Hi,
Here is the official answer about this from Gracenote.
Very sad, but 100 % reliable.

Best regards
Brian

Hello Brian,

Thank you for writing. The music lookup function on your Winamp application
is not working because the software developer unfortunately has not renewed
their license to use the Gracenote music recognition service, and their
license term has now expired.

I found their forum page, which confirms this information:

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=377496

If you would like to continue accessing Gracenote's music recognition
service, you can look around. Other popular licensed applications include
iTunes and products by Sony, Creative, Samsung, Roxio and many others. Some
applications are freeware and some are commercial, and you can go to the
software developer's own web site for more information or to download.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Sonia

Hi list,
I’m writing for a friend do have winamp and he uses version 5.07.
Until now it has presented the cd tracks fine, when he inserted a cd in the

But this functionality has stopped working. Now Jaws only says Artist
unknown, Album unknown and so on.

Any help will be highly apreciated.
He don’t wanna upgrade to the latest version as it has some issues. For
example it recognises all external drives as a portable music player and
wants to add them, which is annoying.

Subject: Really strange problem with winamp 5.07

Hi list,
I’m writing for a friend do have winamp and he uses version 5.07.
Until now it has presented the cd tracks fine, when he inserted a cd in the
drive.

Best regards
Brian

Strange Problem With Computer Sounds Through Radios

2013-12-30 Thread Tom Kaufman
Hello list: I have discovered a strange problem with listening to sounds
from my computer through radios! I have an FM transmitter that came from
CCrane; my problem is that I'm noticing that if I'm listening to whatever is
on the computer through a mono clock radio that I have in the bathroom, I am
only hearing one channel coming through! Now the radios in the house that
are boom boxes (stereo) sound fine; both channels play and the computer
speakers are fine! But that clock radio seems to only be playing one track!
I had thought maybe there was something awry with the transmitter, but as I
mentioned, things sound fine through the other radios (the clock radio used
to sound fine) another thing (and this might be a connection; not sure! But
I have a set of headphones that I have plugged into the headphone jack of
the computer speaker (can't remember what the brand of speakers these are;
Power Tech or something like it) anyhow, the headphones are only getting
sound through one headphone! So I figured that this problem was with my
headphones! However, I plugged these headphones into my Victor Stream, and
it plays through both sides! So this tells me that there's something
cock-eyed somewhere; but I don't know where! Does anyone here have any
ideas of where this problem is coming from? Am running a Windows 7 machine
(a Dell 8700 (hope I have that right) has a Reeltech soundcard in it;
hopefully I have provided enough information for you to work with! It just
seems odd that the one clock radio plays one channel of whatever is coming
through the computer, when it didn't used to! Thanks for any and all info
you may be able to provide!

Tom, if the radio has an earphone jack, as I think you indicated, I would
start there. I would try inserting and extracting the plug several times to
see if one of the contacts that restore sound to the speakers has failed.
If it's not the contacted may be the amplifier chip on that particular
channel that has quit.

Seeing that you have good audio everywhere else, it leaves you with the
radio and the earphone jack.

Geoff and list: Thanks for the response; no, the radio in the bathroom (to
my knowledge) doesn't have an earphone jack! However, my computer speakers
_do_ have a headphone jack! So I am wondering if therein lies the problem
as the headphones that I plugged in only get sound out of one side! I have
already figured out that the headphones are fine as they work in the Victor
Stream as they should!

strange problem with winamp

2013-05-14 Thread Joe
Have any of you ever had this happen? When I skip tracks with winamp using the
b key, my speakers pan either slightly or all the way left or right even though
they're still set to 50 center in volume control. The only way I can get the
audio centered again is to re-boot the computer. This doesn't happen playing
disks with media player. I'm using XP home and winamp 5.6.3.3235. If I just let
tracks play and don't skip tracks this doesn't happen. Also, disks don't start
playing from the first track, nor do they skip in order. Does anyone know what
causes this? especially the channel pan? Thanks. Joe.

I'm keeping the subject even though the problem isn't the same. I have
Winamp as my default player, which is good most of the time. The problem is
that occasionally I would like WMP to play something. When I click on the
WMP, Winamp decides it is its file and takes over. I understand that it is
default; however, it seems I should be able to play with other players if I
choose them my self. I am using latest version of Winamp and IE6. Thanks

it seems to me that you should be able to go to the file menu and use open
with to have WMP play your file. you should be able to make what ever file
type you want to play in WMP.

making Windows Media player play certain file types, was Re: Strange Problem

2008-05-24 Thread Chris Skarstad
 Hi

I have modified the subject line for much more clarity as to what's
happening here. What you need to do in this situation, at least this
is what I've always done, is go into each media player on your
system, and tell each one *exactly* what file types each one should
play. This doesn't always work, but if you tell Winamp not to play
WMA files, and if you tell Windows Media player to do it, then WMP
should grab it and play it just as always. it's important to go into
the options, and then the file types tab in windows media player and
tell it exactly what you want to play, and more importantly, what you
don't. and then, whatever it's not playing, you can instruct Winamp
to grab. Like I say this isn't always fool proof, but it seems to
work for me most times.

Strange Problem

2008-05-04 Thread Dave Marthouse
I am experiencing a strange problem. Every time I boot up my computer I
find that the volume has been turned down to zero. As I have a hardware
synthesizer it is no problem to go into the volume controls and turn things
up to where they should be. But this problem rears its ugly head every time
I boot the system. I have never experienced this problem till lately. I
can't come up with anything that could have caused this situation. Can
anyone on this list shed light on this one? How do I keep the system volume
settings at the level they should stay?

I am experiencing a strange problem. When I boot up my sound volume is

This hasn't happened before. The problem has just manifested itself over
the last few days. How can I fix this?

strange problem with CD drives

2008-03-11 Thread Betsy
Good morning,

I'm searching for ideas on a strange problem a friend has with his computer.
When he plays a CD in either drive it will play for a couple minutes and then
it stops and the computer locks up. He thinks it's some sort of buffer issue,
I have no idea where to even begin troubleshooting because there is no error
message.
Also, how do you stop Windows Media Player 11 from popping up when a CD is
inserted?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Strange problem and I don't know what could be causing it but maybe
you could try deleting it from a DOS prompt? You'd need to go to the
Start Menu and press r for run, then type command and press Enter.
Then if you're using JAAWS press JAWS s a few times to change screen
echo to all. Now here's the thing I'm afraid I can't remember the
command for deleting but if you google dos commands you should find
it.

Let us know how you get on.

STRANGE PROBLEM WITH SAPI 5 VOICES

2007-02-27 Thread André van Deventer
Hi all

Something very strange is happening with my system. Using Windows xp with
Jaws 8.

All my sapi voices, including the despicable microsoft voices, used to work
fine on my machine.

For some or other reason, none of my sapi voices, including the realspeak
ones, don't work anymore. When I go into control panel and go into speech,
I am unable to play any of the voices. I am simply told that the voices
cannot beplayed although they are definitely installed.

Can anyone help?

Andre

If you do both these things and it still doesn't work, you might try to
uninstall and reinstall the drivers. I would be skeptical of the last
 option
though, because XP uses pretty standard USB drivers. It has happened to me
 once though.

I think the cable would be the most likely problem. If you don't have a
spare USB Cable, try using the same cable with a different device.

 Hello

I'm guessing half of you don't have the player I do, but I'll tell you
anyway. PNY vibe. Here is my problem:

When I connect the player to my computer, I hear the ding dong sound that
confirms it has been recognized. Usually, a pop-up window appears asking
me what I'd like to do. Before I tell you anything else I should tell you
that this specific player acts as a removable disk in windows. I don't
 get
this message; and when looking in windows explorer, I don't see the
removable disk. I tried using the add hardware wizard but that didn't
 help
iether. I saw 2 gb vibe, in the list of hardware, but I just can't
access its contents. I haven't changed anything, it just started
 happening
a few days ago. I'm using windows xp and JFW 7.0. My USB ports are all
fine, since I tested them with my epson printer and kanin scanner. Before
I finish, I might as well add that when booting up windows, if the player
is connected, windows won't boot until I've disconnected the player. But
this happened from the beginning and that's not a problem. Also, I've
tried multiple ports with no success.

 Hopefully somebody can help me.

 thanks,
 Tyler

Strange Problem

2005-12-10 Thread Dave Marthouse
I am experiencing a strange audio related problem. Over the last few days when
I access streams or audio files using winamp all the audio is low in volume. I
can go into the windows volume control and bring the volume to the level
desired but when I go to another file the audio is turned down to a low level
again and I have to go into the windows volume control and re-adjust to the
proper settings. I can do this with no problem but it has become extremely
annoying. Does anyone have a fix for this?

Re: Strange Problem

2005-11-15 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi Dave
Why not give Oddcast a try. It seems to perform just as good as, if not
better than Shoutcast, and the developer *actually* pays attention to
reports he gets and will fix problems that blind users are having.

For example, in an earlier version, he says
Version 3.0.11

More Fixed accessibility issues for blind users.
Minimize to tray is now done by clicking the close button on the oddcast
window. Minimize is now restored to it's original functionality of
minimizing to
taskbar (blind users need it).

So that's an earlier version which you probably don't want since more
improvements in accessibility have been made, but it demonstrates the
developer's willingness to help his users who have disabilities. I think
that's awesome!

plus you can encode and archive your streams to mp3, Ogg Vorbis, and the
fantastic AAC plus format!!
You can find out more at
http://www.oddsock.org/tools/oddcastv3
and the current version 3.1.5 can be gotten at

http://www.oddsock.org/tools/oddcastv3/oddcastv3_winamp_3.1.5.exe

He also has versions for Foobar 2000 and a standalone version that I'm
guessing you would probably use with a program like Station Playlist
Studio, but that's just a guess.
Anyways, with Oddcast, you can access the program from the sys tray, or at
least you should be able to. Hope this helps.

Re: Strange Problem

2005-11-15 Thread Chris Skarstad
That's right Dave, you got it. It's just another way of doing exactly the
same thing as Shoutcast, but with a slightly different interface. you do
need to use your JAWS cursor t click on a few things, and if you check the
live recording mode checkbox, you can then choose which device gets
recorded from if you will and then if you tab over once, you get a slider
where you can select the volume level of that device. So this could be helpful.
