Thanks, Jack. It was in fact shot from the shaded side, though it was a pretty overcast day. I'm not seeing the mossy hue, though I'm using a completely uncalibrated monitor, so that would explain why. I really should bring the thing inside just to make sure I still have it to work with in

Walt, just for grins I fed that shot to Lightroom and applied an over-the-top local-contrast-enhancing preset I cooked up (it basically applies 500% Clarity). Also reduced the exposure .5 stop, and a bunch of Recovery to rescue some detail in the sky (upper-left). Lastly NR and edge sharpening.
