Not so much a suggestion as my experience ...
I used Norton up until I retired from the military in 2007 and no longer
had access to the DoD servers for updated virus definitions. Had it set
to automatically do its thing at

With Yogi that was kind of the point, it doesn't matter.

One of the problems with Norton is that it's a bitch to get rid of
everything it leaves on your system when you uninstall it. Symantec
made available a removal tool to get rid of all the little bits and
pieces after you do a conventional uninstall. But...you need to (1),

AVG here as well (and I've run Avast in the past with success) , the
MS firewall along with a hardware firewall for that side of things.

MS actually provides software that does something other than wreck
your system. Ain't anywhere near perfect, but it's quite usable for
most people. Symantec sells some prety good stuff, but the only thing
they sell with the Norton name on it that isn't actively destructive

Works great except for one thing ... a typewriter is exactly

If someone says you have to use a hammer it's silly to try and use it like a
screwdriver, even if that's what you wanted.

I stopped using both McAfee and Symantec software years ago because of the
resource hogging they both involve. Current favourite is Trend Micro's
PC-Cillin, which seems very effective, and does not seem to slow things
down. I may be lucky though: I keep all my systems updated and have not had
