emphasize the darker tones. Put another way, your histogram is lumpy

The students I know that have taken this classes really enjoyed using
film and the darkroom work. With so much electronic these days, they
rarely get to produce something like that by hand. There's still

I can very much sympathize with all but the selling thousands of
images part. I still struggle with my inclination to saturate and
darken shadows with a heavy hand.
I attribute it to my old monitor, or something.

FWIW the older gentleman is on the steps of the National Club, one of a
half-dozen or so private clubs left in Toronto. This one is one of the oldest
and most prestigious; a real old boys' club until they made them take old
girls a couple of decades
Oh, I’ve had that lens for years; I totally love it. It’s kinda big
and heavy, and the wide-open depth of field is totally laughable; far
from the easiest lens to work with. But it definitely has some magic.
