Think tank thoughts?
I really like my Lowepro Fastpak 350, however the lenses for the K-1 are enough bigger that I can't conveniently carry my "ready for anything" kit in it. The speaker at the photo club last night had a think tank bag (streetwalker hard drive), and it looked pretty good. Since it's possible that y'all enjoy shopping for and talking about camera bags even more than lenses, I'm curious about your opinions on a larger backpack style camera bag in general, and the think tank bags in particular. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) http://red4est.com/lrc -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: PESO Stepping stones
Looking between the cropped/uncropped I think I found the vast bulk of foreground tree (top-right) to be more of a problem than the sky. It seemed a little overwhelming, and cropping helps reduce that a bit. Yes, Epson does recommend turning the printer off with the power switch. The review on imaging resource is looking pretty bad really. I think this printer is a lot better than what they present. I don't really know what settings they were using, but when you run your images through their plugin it seems to do a very good job with color using the stock profiles. The black and white I printed on canon paper seemed fairly neutral when I looked at it in direct sunlight. I actually print things for a living and have used large format canons for some time and always highly recommend them. I would do the same for this printer. Just know that ink costs are up on this model but a full set is only $109 for 8 carts. Not bad really. Individuals are $16.99 I think, up from the $13 the older ones were. You can probably get about 30-40 13x19s before you start swapping ink carts and of course your mileage may vary. Obviously B&W prints will kill the three black carts pretty fast. One full size print didn't dent the first cartridge set, but a black and white definitely moved the on screen indicators a bit. I prints up to 13x19 which is pretty decent really. I love 11x17 so this is perfect for a lot of things. Borderless 13x19 looks fantastic though you do give up some image along the sides. You can buy 13x19 frames too. It also prints CDs which is interesting. If you are considering a printer I would definitely look at this. It has pretty much all the features and quality that the Pixma Pro 1 had and that cost $1000 new. The heads are easily replaceable on this printer as well. I think the epsons are still not user serviceable. One advantage that the smaller epsons have is that they print rolls as well. I think up to 20" wide right? so that gives the ability to print a bit bigger. Still I'm very happy with this and this is a lot nicer than the old 9500 mark 2 I used to use. Much better print quality with much more accurate color. If you are someone that can sell a lot of small prints this is a good printer to have around. I'm really hoping that they move to adding RGB colors like their larger printers have eventually. That would give them a huge color gamut. Still for 8 colors this thing does really, really well. Just know that its best to leave them on all the time so that they self clean which doesn't use much ink in the long run. Otherwise you have to use a lot more ink trying to purge and test print. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- -bmw -- Being old doesn't seem so old now that I'm old. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

The thing here is how far camera phones have come on *BUT* to get that quality reproduced here it's still needed the experience and post production skills of an excellent photographer. The average phone camera user is not going to get the quality that it is possible to get. I am aware that some professionals now use high end phone cameras; the hardware for photography is becoming universal - but that said you still have to compose an image and process it. Re: Canon Pixma Pro 100
I think it self cleans maybe once or twice a week. It doesn't seem to use hardly any ink for self cleanings. I know for experience with the 9500 that if you initiate a purge it goes through a lot more ink than a self clean. I've only had on turned on for a week now and I've noticed one self clean after a print I made yesterday. Though it might have done so when I was sleeping or not at home as well. I'll let you know how this thing works out long term. From what I have read from other users it doesn't seem to use hardly any ink during self cleanings over a period of time. I would definitely recommend just leaving it on and letting the printer maintain itself. PESOs: Phone vs. Camera
Well, sort of phone vs. camera. But this is by no means a controlled experiment. When walking to work this morning (I go out the front door, walk a mile, go back in the front door, and open my office) I came up on some nice fall color in good light. I shot it with my phone and tweaked it quite a bit in photoshop before posting it on Facebook. Ann quite correctly said I should shoot some fall color with a real camera, so I did just that this afternoon. Unfortunately, the good light was gone but I did get a bit of hay bright. I also shot with a much longer foal length to compress the scene. Wow amazing shot and such a sharp capture! Must be the camera! I'm surprised you could get that, they are so skittish. I used to walk in the woods in Pennsylvania and would stop and let the wildlife roam around me. Re: AF film lenses on DSLR
I think that blue dot is the reflection of light off the sensor being reflected back by the rear element of the lens. I don't think any light placement can eliminate it. The sensor surface is a lot shinier than film is. Some great lenses cannot be used because of it. Have yet to work with light placement to see if I can eliminate it. But from what I've been reading it has to do with multiple factors, one of which is the nature of the film coatings and the light interactions/reflections with the sensor surface. I only see the situation under the fl product lights. Anyone else here have similar issues when product shooting? Yes that crop is what I was thinking about when I suggested it. The original image can stand by itself but by eliminating that part of the sky that is featureless you've improved the image IMO. Well, I thought, nobody but Ann will notice, so I chose to go with it. :) J Sent from my iPhone > On Nov 3, 2016, at 9:35 AM, ann sanfedele wrote: > > Glad to see you getting some water... it is now the opposite on th east > coast.. > > I like the shot except one little nit.. the edge of the boat going off the > frame... > > ann > > >> On 11/3/2016 11:32 AM, Jack Davis wrote: >> >> Stopped to eat a home made lunch and check out the morning. >> We're enjoying a wet fall at this point and the skiers are >> already euphoric. >> Last time I saw that small lake, it was a mud hole. >> >> C&C? >> >> J >> >> http://photolightimages.com/aspupload/detail.asp?ID=1119 > > > -- > PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List > PDML@pdml.net > http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net > to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow > the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Canon Pixma Pro 100
I could be wrong but they might have just the black inks together as a discount Bruce. If you buy one of these new look for a deal that includes an extra set of ink. It does come with a full set in the box despite the tanks being labelled setup. The initial ink charge didn't seem to use any ink so they must have a little extra in them. Re: Canon Pixma Pro 100
Yes sorry for the delay in response. Canon has been using dye inks for some time and claim 100 years of archival life. They think the real number is closer to 300 years. I imagine you will be dead long before they start to fade. You can purchase individual ink carts at 16.99 I think. USD. I've used the older 9500 mk2 quite a bit and I think the colors are way better off of this printer. On Nov 3, 2016 1:49 PM, "Bruce Walker" wrote: > Thanks for that write-up, Zos. AF film lenses on DSLR
At work I got the FA50/2.8 macro to have something AF for working in the darker warehouse area. But what I've seen, and it's not just a Pentax situation, when using it with the florescent lights for piece shots I get this blue dot in the middle of the image. If so, how did you resolve the situation? -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Chicago PDML meetup
John, After a 108 year drought, the Chicago Cubs baseball team won the world series last night (early this AM, actually). They just announced the parade for the winners will be Friday... You and 500,000+ Cubs baseball team fans will be in the city center to cheer the winners. We might need to make some arrangements. Regards, Bob S. Tips for Fans Here are some tips for the fans who want to attend the Chicago Cubs championship parade: this is the first time in over one century that there will be a parade, so if you haven’t already, expect a mammoth crowd out there. People will most likely camp overnight to get a good spot, so get there as early as you can. Mystery solved... The scanner is to blame for the clipping on both sides... if I removed the slide from the holder and used the film strip carrier O could solve it.. also, I could replace the color with a scan of the BW print.. it bothers me, but not enough to solve it right now.. most of the time the bit of clipping caused by the process doesn't matter... sigh ann On 11/3/2016 11:32 AM, ann sanfedele wrote: Gonz - I scanned from a slide in a cardboard frame...it may be there- I agree with you about that rock. However when I was at Gillette's Castle a couple of days ago I saw a couple of other DSLRs one looked like a D300, the other was too far away to identify, but looked to be about the same size as a 70/80D or D90. There weren't that many people there, but everyone else who probably would have been using a P&S or Bridge a few years ago were taking pictures with their phones. Also given that most bridge cameras are designed to mimic DSLRs, thats probably why you don't see a lot of DSLRs these days, you may not have been seeing a lot of DSLRs before. -- I don't want to achieve immortality through my work; I want to achieve immortality through not dying. -- Woody Allen -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: PESO: Black and White
That's what I did in my example the filter used was red. I've played with it a bit more, and a virtual green filter maintains the tones of the original in B&W better, and a virtual dark orange filter is a better compromise. Maintains more detail in the shadows, while not darkening the sky quite as much. I'd post that one but I've already messed quite enough with Dan's image without actual permission. Peso-Golden November
Another from yesterdays fall color drive. Had I a hint as to the species, I would have included it in the title. Was frustrating trying to post some leaf detail in this uncropped image. Parked on the shoulder of the road, where I really didn't have room, crossed the road and took a quick hand held snap. Too close for even an attempt at sufficient dof. I suppose I could come up with more excuses, but:) K5 back-up W/DA 16-45 C&C? Thanks!
