My base OS is Win7 and I run a guest operator system of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. My
Ubuntu would not boot. Win7 works fine.

Ubuntu 16.04 is the host. Ubuntu runs fine. Are you suggesting that I
would need to install the Host to fix the Guest (or VB, whichever is the
culprit)?
