I just can't get this plugin to return any video results - either my

I can see in my Google Dev console that that the APIs are getting 'hit'

Any idea what's going wrong? Here is my log (with access token removed -
I can supply it for troubleshooting if required).

It's not that important for the overall functionality, and I reckon that
when it irritates Yours truly enough that you'll figure it out and
release an update in your own time, if you ever have the time or
motivation!...

Now I at least know that there's nothing wrong with my setup, as I
really had a tough time, despite your excellent instructions, to get
this right in the Google API. Had to wipe all my other projects and
start from scratch, reinstall/update LMS server on RPi and
*-_purge_the_famous_/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs/plugin/youtube.prefs_-*
before I got it to work. -None of which I knew about in advance or know
which had the desired effect… ;-)

Thanks again for the reply!

Add a YT log with level set to info so that we can see if this is a
problem with YT itself or an issue linked to the usage of Opus codec.
What version of LMS are you using and what are your players?

Is it the same for all songs? There was a recent update of the plugin.

Hi all,
I'm using this plugin for a long time and was very happy with it, but
for a few days it doesn't work anymore.
I can look for songs, add to the playlist, etc. But when I click on
"play", it starts but stops quite immediately.
I went to the console permissions page to check that the application is
enabled, and it is.
I tried removing the credentials and API and recreate it, but it's the
same.
Thanks a lot for help !

nervoteso wrote:
> never solved. could you tell me how to update on radsperry?

Go there to find the latest nightly build
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/index.php?ver=7.9

As of this post, this is
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/7.9/sc/25f77d7bd57a9ea70a4cf4a6b5be974849fd2a05/logitechmediaserver_7.9.2~1565967976_arm.deb
for amr/debian (raspian) which I assume you use

Open a terminal console on your pi and type

"wget
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/7.9/sc/25f77d7bd57a9ea70a4cf4a6b5be974849fd2a05/logitechmediaserver_7.9.2~1565967976_arm.deb;

This will download the latest version and you'll have a file named
logitechmediaserver_7.9.2~1565967976_arm.deb

Then type "sudo dpkg -i logitechmediaserver_7.9.2~1565967976_arm.deb"
and that will replace your current LMS version

For YT plugin,

Go to /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs/plugin by typing "cd
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs/plugin" then erase YT pref file by
typing "sudo rm youtube.prefs"

Go to the YT plugin settngs in LMS and re-enter your API key. DO NOT ADD
LEADING OR TRAINING SPACES. If it still does not work, then you've done
something wrong in the API key creation, so re-read the help and try
again

That’s the reason why I’ve added native support because otherwise it’s
very heavy on transcoding. Unfortunately it will not solve the problem
for SB native devices. I wish we have the source code for these ... but
it’s already great that mysb.com is still alive and we have Michael’s
support. Pretty amazing when you think about it. Maybe writing a
all-in-one transcoder would be a bit better. It’s fairly easy

I just tried some Opus YouTube stuff via the plugin ... to a player that
cannot handle Opus and the transcoding via Sox and then again to Flac (I
think) was too much for my (old) RPi 1 LMS to handle - was not able to
keep the buffer full enough for the player with CPU at near enough 100%
for extended periods.
I'm sure it would have been fine on faster LMS server.

Yes that’s correct it’s opus. I’ve recently added opus in YT and did a
patch for squeezelite + LMD for native opus playback. If you don’t have
these patches, LMS supports opus through transcode but it seems that you
don’t have all it needs for doing the transcode. I recommend you look at
that because more and more YT content, of better quality is opus only

I somehow cannot get the plugin to work. Plugin v0.90 and LMS v7.9.1.
I double checked the API access key, then also tried by enabling Client

In the GUI I can search YouTube, see the thumbnails, etc... But when I
start to play, it seems to try a few seconds (but cannot hear anything)
and then aborts. The error log is also consistent and always shows this

It’s likely because LMS transcodes opus to pcm and in that case the
sample rate is not set properly. Either make sure your player uses flac
and flac is installed or disable opus in YT options

Hi Philippe,

the plugin worked for a long time and then today I've received a 403. I
followed your instructions at everything worked fine again :) In the
past I've only created the API key and OAuth Client ID but without using
a project and not restricting it.

I'm very grateful that you keeping this project alive !

Cheers wgk

Hi Philippe,
looking to the debug log I noticed an error 403 and discovered that for
an unknown reason the API was considered not active. Checked many time
and the API is active in the project. Anyway, tried with a different
account/project/API Key and now it works again. Thanks!

It breaks the html page into sections with the different streams are
listed and then in each of them with a few regex crude rules it extract
the JS code. The there is a simple JS interprétée in Perl that excites
it.

You’re right, something like that would be easier for everybody. But
don’t you think that it could be possible to have the JS script
extracted automatically (better than by a regex). Browsers handle
changing versions, so why can’t we do it?. Or does that mean we almost
have to rewrite a semi-complete html parser?

Exactly why we can't do it: we'd have to write a complete JS parser.

TBH. I don't really understand how that function is being extracted. How
do you even know what to look for?

The plugin suddenly didn't work for me anymore, on a relatively recent

youtube for no apparent reason.
First I just created new credentials, which didn't help. So I deleted
the project created for this plugin on console.developers.google.com and
started from the beginning again as described in the first post of this
thread. That solved the issue and the plugin works again.

Greetings, signor_rossi.

The updated 0.87.2 version on m RPI2 today, glad to be able to listen
everything stored in my lists again!!! I really missed this function.
Thank you philippe_44, it is absolutely great what you do. I am a
regular listener of many educational videos daily published by informed
youtubers, a lot of stuff I can tell you. But nobody can watch the
screen all the time. Running PC just eats electricity and makes noise
then. I am sure you have made many people happy by creating this plugin
and when keeping it working, updated. Very appreciated, very happy. Have
a good day everyone, enjoy your favorite channels - a fixed issue for
me! :o :)

Can you post the repository link which i
must have to insert in LMS?
Until now no new version is displayed.

Might be a caching issue. Stop LMS, remove cache.db from it's cache
folder, restart. Or wait another hour.

Thankyou very much for your effort, Philippe. Very much appreciated!

Unfortunately, even after upgrading to 0.87.1, I find that are still
many videos that seem to play but there is no sound, just like others
initially reported. I am on LMS 7.9.0 for Debian Linux and I have
"YouTube API access key" set, in case that matters.

For example, attempting to play

results in:

Thanks. That track works for me, also. None of the other YouTube videos
I had in my SB playlist work any more.
I've been using and appreciating the YouTube plugin nearly every day, so
I hope the author can find the time to update it.
