Subject: [PEDA] Port Sizing

I have a ddb with ports on each of 4 pages of the schematic. On the first
machine, the length can be changed and is set so the schematic looks good.
When I open the schematic on a second machine, the lengths of the ports gets
changed and is fixed. I cannot change the port lengths in this ddb on the
second machine. When I open it on the first machine all the port lengths
are set to where they left the second machine, except for the fact that I
can change them. The second machine seems to be autosizing the port
length. If I increasing the port name length, the length increases, if I
shorten the name the length decreases. Is this a new feature or a new bug?
If it is a feature, HOW DO I TURN IT OFF?

Re: [PEDA] A note about the Solution to Setup Mechanical Layers

2002-02-14 Thread Anthony Whitesell

Ian,

All works fine. From the install that I found this bug, this is the way the
INI file was ordered, I did not change what was there, changed added to the
end what was missing. But here is the extremely curious thing. Why does
installing Protel from the CD onto a clean machine have different effects?
ie. Why does this not happen on all installations? I have unistalled and
manually deleted all *99SE.ini files and re-installed or after installing on
a fresh machine and do I not have to change the INI file for this
correction?

Obviously there must be some other bug going on. You have one layer drawing
order, and I have two drawing orders. One missing mechanical layers 5-16,
and one with the mechancial layers. And from reading the thread, it would
seem that some people have had this problem and other not.

Anthony,

This is funny, according to the info on layer numbers that I was provided
(by Protel) on the layer numbering you have LayerDrawingOrder0 as the
background layer. I wonder what affect this is having?

My ini file has:
LayerDrawingOrder0=74
LayerDrawingOrder1=33
LayerDrawingOrder2=34
LayerDrawingOrder3=75
LayerDrawingOrder4=0
LayerDrawingOrder5=1
LayerDrawingOrder6=2
LayerDrawingOrder7=3

My LayerDrawingOrder0 is set to to MultiLayer while yours is set to

Bran, Abdulrahman,

After reading your replies, some of my confusion has been dispelled. I agree
with you that if the mechanical layer set-up is greyed out, that there are
primitives on that layer. I only have two mechanical layers with nothing on
them. These are indeed selectable.

Back to my display problem. I have used the mechanical layers to create
drawings. For instance, one layer is the drawing template, another is text
with board specifications, others are titles with page numbers and so on.
When I go into preview, I combine the layers that I need to generate the
desired drawing. In preview, I have no problem getting the data to appear.
However, in the PCB edit mode, I cannot get every layer to display at once.
If I could, I would get everything that I have placed on every layer. I do
have all mechanical layers visible in the mechanical layers setup dialog. In
the design/options dialog I set use all layers. Now even though all the
layers do not display, if I scan with the mouse, an area known to have a
primitive I will see it pop up in the status display. I can then click the
mouse and edit its properties normally. When I close the properties box, the
primitive displays. When I hit view/refresh, it disappears. This board is a
simple 2 layer board. Layers directly associated with the board always show.
(top bottom, silkscreen )

I'm using sp6 on a win2k box.

Thanks for your help.

Ken

Perhaps it could be altered to accomplish your request.

It might help, but it will still be necessary to edit each polygon. Global
edit on polygons would not be a simple matter. You can globally edit the
track, as noted, but then the track will not correspond to what was used
when the track positions were calculated.

One could do an edit on the ASCII database to edit draw characteristics,
and then use the server or one of the other workarounds to redraw all of
them. (Changing the polygon fields would not change the generated track.)
That's what I think of. If there are a *lot* of polygons it might be worth
going this way.

Check to make sure that the schematic sheet server is still installed.
Click the down arrow next to the FILE menu item then select SERVERS. I have
more than once lost various servers from the list for no apparent reason and
has stopped me from opening the sheets whether it was schematic or layout
because the server was not installed anymore.

It might be a file association problem. I think if .sch gets associated
with a non-Protel program, it can have effects such as you described. Does
a .sch file in Explorer show a schematic icon, or something else? Some
scheduling programs use .sch, so installing or updating such a product could
have changed the association.

Hi,
I am having a curious problem with Protel 99SE where it does not
recognise schematic documents. When I try to open such a document, nothing
happens. If I try to assign the document as type 'schematic' I find that the
option is no longer there! If I try to create a new schematic document, I
also find that this option is no longer there! The software still recgnises
(and opens) PCB documents and CAM documents.

When I try to repair the installation, the problem is not fixed.
When I remove the schematic option and then reinstall it, the problem is
still not fixed.

The only thing that I am yet to try is a total re-install, but I would
rather see if the problem can be fixed in another way before I do that.

Has anyone come across this problem and/or know how to fix it??

[PEDA] Design Rules

2001-12-28 Thread Anthony Whitesell

Does anyone know if it is possible (or how to) set a design rule to check
between the overlay and the soldermask layers? If you place a designator
over a pad or via then it does not appear correctly on the finished PCB. I
have simplified the solution to check the reference designators versus the
[inverted] soldermask of the same side and make sure they don't overlap. I
was hoping to automate the process with a design rule. Any ideas?
